This review is from: Panasonic NB-G100P-S 7.2-Quart Flash Express 1300 Watt Infrared Toaster Oven, Silver (Kitchen)
The toaster is great, even on frozen bread (special button for that). The unit has a small foot-print, & nice overall design; silver looks very sleek, with the shape of a real oven, not one of those long things that just don't fit in a reasonable amount of space.
On the outside it measures: 12 ½" wide x 11 ½" deep x 10 ¼ high. They want "space" on at least one side, but the feet slide nicely on the countertop. So if the fit is too close, you can just slide it forward a bit, then slide it back...after it's cooled, of course. The inside diameter is roughly 10 ¼" x 10 ¼", in other words, very useable. There is only one shelf, again unlike some of the other complicated brands that have 2 adjustable shelves. You don't need them. 4 slices of toast come out perfect, with only some stripes on the undersurface where they rest on the wire rack; toast is not dry, not wet inside. The cord is on the right side near the lower front, a location which works well for me. There are lots of nice features. The toaster grill pulls out when the door is opened (very few still do this). There is also a metal tray, which slides on over the grill. The door handle is several inches above the counter-top when the door is opened, unlike so many others where the handle hits the counter & you have to carefully sneak a gloved hand under to work it. The crumb tray is easily accessible from the front. This is good since you have to keep the crumbs clear or risk a fire from the high heat. It works by cycling the IR (infrared) on & off for both toasting & baking. There are 2 bulbs on the top, & one on the bottom. Seeing the IR lights cycle on & off is fun. The baking is a bit tricky. You have limited choices for temperature: 250, 285, 320, 355, 390, 425, 460, & 500. The time increments are in minutes & half minutes...not a hardship. You do have to watch your baking a few times to get used to the choice limits. When I finally reached a customer rep, she suggested using smaller pans, that the disposable aluminum ones work well. Baking is even, unlike what another reviewer said. You do not need the tray for baking when using a normal metal pan. With foil on the metal tray, it's handy for heating, melting cheesey sandwiches, and almost functions as a pseudo-broiler. There is no broiler in this oven. But, I am not struggling for that lack as I thought I would. They do recommend wrapping anything splattery (as in baking fish) in foil. Splattered grease could catch fire. There is no preheating...makes it very easy to bake on the spur of the moment. My big oven takes 15 minutes to preheat, & I'm guessing must use much more power than this neat little baby. The surface does get very hot. But, as one other user said, it also cools down very fast. You cannot use glass or plastic cookware as in a microwave; no paper cupcake liners: only metal. Again, not a hardship. The machine does stop the IR when toasting or baking are done. There is a bell which rings a few times. Apparently some other brands do not stop automatically. There is an on/off switch on the unit, which still must be turned off when done. And, in addition, the instructions say that you MUST pull out the plug when done, which is rather annoying. It apparently draws juice when not in use, despite the On/Off button, & they say it could be dangerous. For repeated plug pulling, I would have liked a heavier plug like the Cuisinart food processors have! Meanwhile, this can be overcome with a little creativity: I bought myself a plug-into-the-outlet on/off switch rated for 1800 watts (unit is 1300), and simply flip the outlet switch after I turn off the machine, eliminating the need to pull the plug. There are some odd "selection" buttons. I haven't tried: "Frozen pizza," "Quick reheat," or "Frozen Hashbrowns." I really only need "Toast" or "Frozen toast," & temperature with digital timer for baking. My only beef: I am disappointed with the poor instruction booklet. The guidance for baking makes it sound like IR is faster. But it is pretty much the same as an ordinary oven, given the adjustments you must make for the limited temperature selection. Also, for registering products, I could not find a serial number...it's stamped on the box beginning with a number 5, & not on the back of the unit as is stated. I penned it in on the label on the back for future reference. This machine was bought to replace a small 2-slice GE toaster-oven which was about 25 years old (yeh, really). I tried the current GE from Walmart. Today's GE is a piece of poorly made junk. Another reviewer in a similar situation as I, found the same, & also brought the GE back. So far, all the fire-hazard warnings are just that. Nothing has burned! I doubt the IR bulbs will last as long as my old GE. In the meantime though, this is one great, useful, useable, sleek, 4-slice toaster-oven, which, amazingly, fits in the same spot where the little ole GE was. I LOVE IT! :)

Best toaster I've ever had,
By XPhila (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Panasonic NB-G100P-S 7.2-Quart Flash Express 1300 Watt Infrared Toaster Oven, Silver (Kitchen)
I'm not a "toaster-fanatic" or claim to be an expert on toasters, however, I do toast breads a lot and heat up frozen appetizers, etc. and this toaster is easily the best one I've ever had.
I was considering purchasing the Toastmaster Lightwave because I was looking for a sleek, nice looking unit (and this one had no picture on Amazon'd site) but when I saw the Lightwave in person, I was very disappointed! It looked completely plasticky and the glass door/hinge looked flimsy. Having owned Toastmaster before, that was consistent with my image of their products. So I ordered this Panasonic blindly because of other reviews I've heard and was not disappointed. This thing looks great and blends in nicely with all my new stainless appliances. I actually LIKE putting this out on the countertop! And it has performance to match. Makes toast a lot faster and more consistently than my old Toastmaster. Heater frozen breads and snacks in half the time it used to take. And clean up is much easier than my older unit where you practically had to lift the toaster up to clean the crumb tray. In this one, you simply slide out the crumb tray which is accessible from the front (lifting and performing circus tricks optional!). In short, this is exactly what I wanted: a stylish toaster oven that cooks better and faster than any other I've tried.

Excellent Toaster for the Money,
By
This review is from: Panasonic NB-G100P-S 7.2-Quart Flash Express 1300 Watt Infrared Toaster Oven, Silver (Kitchen)
Here is my first impression of the Panasonic NB-G100P-S. I will try to list both my positive and negative view of the unit.
1. This toaster is not the typical looking toaster/oven(i.e Cuisinart, Kenmore, Black and Decker, Kitchenaid, Krups). Some people may like the styling but I prefer the looks of the Krups FBC-1. I have reasons why I bought this, read on. 2. This is lighter and smaller inside compare to Kitchenaid, Cuisinart and Krups. I hope the weight is not an indication of quality. 3. Silver (the other is white) color is the closest I can get to match my kitchen, I prefer black with Stainless. I wish Panasonic will have more selections in the future. 4. The outside gets pretty warm. Don't anything on top of this unit. 5. BUT, this toaster is more functional than other toasters for the money. I was able to warm my rolls in less time my old Kenmore (looks like Cuisinart Classic) takes to preheat. This is important when time limited. It will take the Kenmore 3~5 min. just to preheat, and I suspect other toasters are the same. This Panasonic does not need any preheating, a big plus (think energy savings too). 6. Toasting is fast. It is 1/3 the time of my old Kenmore. 7. With preset buttons (this remembers the previous brown setting), it just a no brainer. Not that toasting is complicated, my old toaster has to be switched between bake and toast, brown setting then start button. I'm lazy isn't? Why not, if an easy way was available in other product. It just smart decision. 8. Quality. I had previous Panasonic before my Kenmore, can't remember the model, but I gave up on that because it was old and not cleanable anymore. I just can't ruin that unit. If this new model has that quality, that is a big bonus. I decided not to get the Krups because of quality issue this company has. Krups has good styling but I am not paying premium for the quality as reported by other users. Kitchenaid toaster is nice too (really heavy) and look well built, but the heating elements used suggest the same performance like the typical toasters. The higher rated Cuisinart is too much for what I intend to use it for. 9. There are a lot of nicer looking toasters out there, but I think I will get more practical use with this Panasonic. I am not suggesting this unit is ugly, it is just different.

This toaster oen is phenomenal at its intended task, which is making toast obviously. It heats up instantly, which saves a ton of time, and is thoughtfully designed. It is also more boxy than wide, thus saving counter space. After the poorly engineered and extremely slow heating black and decker I had before, this has been a revalation. I can toast something in 2 minutes instead of 4-5 minutes in the Black and Decker. In the morning or for a late night snack, that;s a big big difference.

Surprisingly Awesome Oven,

This review is from: Panasonic NB-G100P-S 7.2-Quart Flash Express 1300 Watt Infrared Toaster Oven, Silver (Kitchen)
Note: This review is lengthy, for folks wanting to jump to the conclusion here it is: This toaster oven is amazing. The performance, quality and ease of using it are hands down 5-stars across the board and you'll feel that way within a day of having it.
Our poor 10 year old Black and Decker Walmart-special toaster oven recently had the door break on it (the spring pulled out so it would no longer shut on it's own to cook). After so much time with this ratty looking toaster oven I really wish it had died a better death and blown up in a flash of smoke, but instead it hobbled itself and just wasn't useful anymore. Hunting around Amazon toaster ovens there was one oven that kept popping up, the Panasonic NB-G100P-S Flash Express 1300 Watt Infrared Toaster Oven. Are you serious with that name? I was originally gunning for a Kitchen Aid or Corsair toaster oven as big names in the kitchen... but this ugly little toaster oven intrigued me, so I started to do my thing and dig in. The first thing to notice about this toaster oven is that it's square, not rectangular. This ended up working better for a lot of folks for two reasons: 1. Takes up less counter space 2. Easier to cook square or round items like a mini pizza I read in one review that this toaster oven had "two selves", but I've not seen this anywhere. In fact, I believe due to the infrared nature of the toaster oven having two shelves inside of it would be impossible. As it seems to me, the reason the oven is square is so it can be taller and offer more clearance to the infrared bulbs at the top and bottom to cook with and not destroy your food. After getting the oven, I unpacked it, noticed how light it was and stuck it on the counter... hmm, a little ugly, but at least it sort of matched our Jura-Capresso Impressa S9 Avantgarde since it was silver as well. The first thing we decided to make was a piece of buttered toast. Unfortunately the only toast we had was from the freezer because we had just finished the last of the toast that morning... oddly enough the toaster has both Toast and Frozen Toast buttons on it. So we threw in a frozen heal and hit the Frozen Toast button and sat back and started watching it. First thing to notice is that because the oven uses infrared to cook, cooking time is about 25% or more shorter than normal. Also there is no visible light put off by the elements, so the toaster incrementally lights it's halogen bulb inside to show you how the food is looking. The light inside is very bright and makes watching your food a cinch. We noticed that our toast started to brown very quickly and evenly. That was something we weren't expecting but was a welcome surprise... I don't know if it's the use of infrared or the orientation of the elements, but this oven cooks so evenly across any kind of food you want to prepare. Needless to say the toast was delicious. We tried it a few more times and as I mentioned, besides the cooking time being noticeably shorter and food beginning to cook immediately, the quality of the cook and evenness of the heating was fantastic. We've had the oven for a few weeks now and I've made the following items in it: * Toast (wonderful) * Microwave mini pizza * Reheated Pizza Hut deep-dish pizza (fantastic) * Cookies (Surprisingly how evenly they cook. Even thick cookies didn't burn the outside while the inside was cooked perfect) * Frozen Chicken Strips * Hot Dogs (amazing) The last, Hot Dogs, I made yesterday and the taste was on par if not better than a grilled hot dog. I prefer making them in the oven now because I don't have to watch them or turn them. I just hit the venerable Pizza button on the front, which translates to 12.5 minutes of cook time and walk away until the oven beeps. The hot dogs (Nathans) were plump, sweaty and juicy. I can't really recommend this oven enough. Even if you have a working toaster oven, as long as it wasn't too expensive, I would even suggest you donate it and get yourself this oven. I normally don't get so rabid about appliances as they all have their obvious down sides, but so far, besides the industrial look of this oven, I haven't found it. The amount of effort it takes me to use the device and accuracy with which it performances is such a nice surprise. None of this "walk by every 2 mins to see if your bread is burned yet" business. Just hit a button and wait for the thing to beep when it's done. I would encourage anyone interested to read through the reviews on Amazon to see that most people mirror these same impressions if you are interested.

This review is from: Panasonic NB-G100P-S 7.2-Quart Flash Express 1300 Watt Infrared Toaster Oven, Silver (Kitchen)
I decided to buy this after reading the numerous rave reviews on the other Panasonic Infrared Toaster oven, NB-G100P, which is the same as this model, only not silver in color.
I can't say this is a killer toaster oven. It is a moderate improvement over my old $25 Black & Decker, but have not found it to be superlative. Certainly, there are nice things about this toaster oven. NO PREHEATING. I love that. Just stick your food in and punch a button. Indeed, another nifty feature is a timer, where you simply set the timer and temp and it starts up, turning off at the correct time. However, the real purpose of a toaster oven is to cook food, and that's where this one does not out-perform other cheaper models. While many folks have commented that the oven cooks things more evenly, I disagree. There is a hot-spot running down the middle of the oven where the IR element runs, leaving food burned in spots, uncooked in others. So, while I'd give this product an above average rating, it's not a killer cooker. If I had to do it over again, I think I'd try one of the convection toaster ovens.

I use this oven for cooking everything, daily, multiple times. I love it, I don't know what I'd do without it. It's safe to say I'm maniacly co-dependent with my little silver buddy here. My wife is even addicted now after seeing what all the fuss is about. She mocks me no longer. I used the regular oven to cook an oversized pizza yesterday, once out of the past 6 months, but not first without considering the possibility of cutting the pizza with scissors into smaller chunks to allow fitting into my beloved flash oven. It came out crappy, cold in the middle, and took over 20 minutes. I'll have to buy smaller pizzas from now on, I'll never cheat on my little baby again. I swear. PS: Pans are for squares - it's all about tinfoil!!!

the cure for the common toaster,

This review is from: Panasonic NB-G100P-S 7.2-Quart Flash Express 1300 Watt Infrared Toaster Oven, Silver (Kitchen)
After you use a toaster oven like this, you'll wonder why you ever owned an ordinary toaster. A thousand times more accomodating, it does toast, bagels (frozen or fresh), pizza slices, waffles in need of reheating, and anything else that you desire to toast legally and ethically. My wife loves the countdown-to-toasted feature, which allows her to sashay around the kitchen achieving important objectives while keeping one eye on the toast. The Panasonic toaster oven has a pleasant little ring, not a small thing in a day when everybody feels the need to personalize their cell phone ringtone at high (and very public) volume. Not suitable for use by pets or adults who struggle with child-proof aspirin bottles, it is otherwise the essence of user-friendliness. Toasters? Who needs'em?

This review is from: Panasonic NB-G100P-S 7.2-Quart Flash Express 1300 Watt Infrared Toaster Oven, Silver (Kitchen)
I started doing a lot of research on toasters because my old B&D toaster was having some issues(none that I personally saw but my girlfriend swore that sparks would fly from the plug and inside the toaster) so I decided I should be safe rather then sorry and get a new one. I was hoping to find another toaster that was a space saver that would mount under my cabinets but no one makes one anymore, shame on you B&D, you lost a another customer. So what else was out there? I was looking for something big enough to hold a personal pizza but not so big as to take up all my counter space in my small kitchen. I also wanted something what would last me a few years(2,3...20). There are a lot of toasters out there for 20-30 dollars and then ones for $100+ that seemed to do the same thing. Then I came accross this toast, something was different about this one... it was the new kid on the block, who the other toaster probably want to beat up, and with good reason. This toaster is the best I've ever used. I have yet to try anything big like a roast and I don't think I ever will but I have used it for many things from making toast to reheating fried chicken. This makes toast perfectly every time and there is even a button for regular bread and frozen bread and a 5 level adjuster for the darkness of the bread. And for these out there that don't eat anything but frozen pizzas, there is a frozen pizza button too. This toaster will take longer to heat things versus heating them in the microwave however; it won't take that much longer, it is faster then a normaly toaster, the heating is more even then either, food items come out crispy instead of soggy... I could probably keeping going on but this is a wondering kitchen item and even if your current toaster works fine, I would throw it out and get this one. For those out there that think, well 80 dollars is a lot of money, trust me in saying you won't be upset with your purchase.

Little Technological Marvel,

I will tell you up front that I have no incentive to write a good review other than that I think that this little oven is a pretty good product. I have had it for a week or so now and it does what it says: accurate and fast toasting and baking. 4 Pieces of toast were evenly browned on both sides every time- buttermilk bread was crunchy outside and moist inside. And if speed is also important to you, than I can't recommend a better toaster oven. During baking, I found myself wondering about the lights going on and off inside the oven. Apparently this is part of the heat modulation. It's a little uncoventional but it works very well. The digital timer is much more accurate than the dial on my old oven. However, I found that it was only adjustable to the half minute which was a little difficult to accept for a precision freak like myself. No problem, really. The power rating is lower than my 1500 watt old toaster oven so that may be better for us also. I can't give a long-term review but so far, our oven has been very reliable. Given the advantages, I am not sure why all ovens don't use this technology. I forgot to mention that the price may be slightly on the high side, but it is worth it for us.
