3.0 out of 5 stars cordless iron
If you are a quilter, the iron is always off when you need it. Even while you are using it, it is cooling off, so unless you lift it up and down frequently, it is not beneficial

This replaced a decent (read expensive) Rowenta with a cord. My dog pulled the Rowenta off the ironing board by catching his foot or tail in the cord. The Rowenta lived and so did the dog, but out of concern for the safety of dog and home I immediately started shopping for a new iron--cordless being the first priority.

I was concerned that the iron would not be as hot as I need it to be for linen and cotton and read all the reviews and decided to try it anyway because it is easily returned to Amazon. I chose the steel sole plate and did not want a non-stick sole plate because of toxins and scratching.

Happily - I am able to announce that I am using it almost daily for quilting and weekly for the laundry/ironing tasks. It stays hot - good and hot. I have a Polder ironing board with a metal tray at the end for an iron to sit on. I place the base there and the board is free so I can iron with no trouble. I use the iron, put it back on the base, adjust whatever I am ironing and continue ironing in this manner. This keeps the iron hot all the time. It takes 10 minutes for the auto shut off and so as long as I am working steadily there is no problem. The Rowenta had an auto-off like most higher price irons and it was off every time I turned around. I hated that.

As a quilter, I usually work in an assembly line fashion, I piece everything I can, press and then piece again and press so I do not have a problem with the iron cooling down in the middle of my work.

I took the Panasonic Cordless to my quilting and sewing group meetings and everyone came running over to see it--it is really lovely. Some people oohed and aahhhed, and put it on their Christmas list, but some were quickly disinterested. We all have our own needs--and this iron suits me very well. Because of the cordless design, I don't mind ironing at all anymore.

Reasons to like it:
The iron is beautiful, with a clean design, 4 simple soft-touch buttons.
The clear case is one of the best features as it can be carried to quilting classes or sewing groups.
It is easy to set temperatures, there are 3 temps and you can press a button and choose the appropriate temp, no spinning dial or guessing like most irons.
There are lights to show if its cool or hot.
Iron gets very hot.
Steam feature works fine, although I often use a dry iron for quilting.
The removable water tank is fantastic. No more carrying water in a pitcher to my iron to refill it. Now I can gently release the tank and take it right to the water source.
Retractable cord on the base.
I should also mention that I don't use the spray feature because of habit I keep a large sprayer filled with fresh rosemary scented water.

My only gripe, a small one, is that I wish it had a longer cord on the base, but then it probably would not be retractable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased with this iron!, March 14, 2008

I've been using my Panasonic cordless iron for about 6 months now and am entirely pleased with the performance. The iron heats up fast and will keep a high heat for a few minutes until it requires a quick reheating in the base. The steam pressure is surprisingly strong although the water capacity is not large. If you have a lot of ironing you may refill the container more than once - but this is easy since it is removable and doesn't leak when replaced. The convenience of not having the cord in the way far outweighs any limitations this iron may have, such as the small water capacity or the fact that it cannot reheat itself while you are ironing.

People have commented on the iron not keeping its heat long enough. I don't have a problem since I ALWAYS place the iron on the base when I am not actually ironing. This will keep it hot continuously. The technique is you iron until the steam starts to weaken, then set the iron on the base for 20 or 30 seconds while you are turning or adjusting the garment on the ironing board. So it's not necessary to waste time entirely in order to keep the iron hot.

The smooth-gliding stainless steel sole place is a deluxe, durable feature and the iron (as most Panasonic products) is built to last. The plastic cover with carrying handle fits well and securely. Perhaps veteran ironers with years of experience, and who don't get the cords tangled may prefer an old fashioned steam iron. But if the cord always gets in your way and slows you down to the point of irritation, you won't regret spending the price for this iron.

5.0 out of 5 stars Once you go cordless you will never go back!, February 21, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic NI-L70SR Cordless Steam/Dry Iron (Kitchen)
I just had a baby! I was worried about him pulling on the cord and the iron landing on him! I look at all the cordless iron and pick this one because of all the thing it does. The cord is in the base not the iron itself. The cord automatic retractable into the base. This is great because you do not need to worry about it being in the way!
The iron has three setting Low, Med, High. On the base it tell you which setting to use for what fabric.
I love the easy to fill water tank! You just push a button, pull out the tank, fill the tank, and slide it back in, there you have it! No more spills! Awesome!!! It has a auto-shut off in 10 min. The iron light will say off when to turn off, with the other irons you can tell if it off until you go to use it. Water go everywhere!!! I also love that this iron does not leak everywhere! Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the heat-resistant carrying case! You can put it way still hot, just put the top on and put it way!!! You do not need to worry about burning anything!!!! That is great! You can leave it on the counter with the top on too! I also like that the case transparent the other iron are solid. I like that you can see the iron it looks better to me. This iron is great for travel too! We take it on a trip it works great!!!!
It have a 2-for-1 with Jet-of-Steam and Self-Cleaning too!
On the website it say this: (Stainless Steel Soleplate)
"With a series of round indentations that trap pockets of air between the soleplate and the fabric, the iron glides smoothly and effortlessly."

Has you can see I love this Iron!!!!!
I would say that you need to go by what the base says about what setting to use because, if it is to hot for the fabric it will stick!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pricey, but worth it, November 13, 2007
This review is from: Panasonic NI-L70SR Cordless Steam/Dry Iron (Kitchen)
After several laundries ruined my custom made dress shirts, I decided to wash/iron my own. I hadn't ironed anything is fifteen years, and dreaded the prospect. However, this Panasonic cordless works so well it is actually tolerable! The design, functionality, packaging and features are excellent. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Besti Iron I've used in in my 74 Years, November 3, 2009

This review is from: Panasonic NI-L70SR Cordless Steam/Dry Iron (Kitchen)
As I was Military trained in ironing my clothes (Korea) I speak from experience! 6 months ago I bought an expensive iron which lifted from the ironing board when I set it down. The downsize is that it is heavy, didn't iron well and spit on my clothes.
I bought the Panasonic cordless iron Sunday and it was delivered today (Tuesday) in Kansas City. Great service Amazon!
Anxious to try it I broke out the ironing board, 3 long sleeve dress shirts recently washed, one pair of khaki trousers and one pair of dress slacks, poly blend, also recently from the wash.
I loaded the iron's water tank with about 7 oz of distilled water (not a requirement) and ironed away...
I am pleased to tell one and all this is by far the best iron I have used in the fifty plus years of ironing!
I recommend it without reservation! Also Amazon for having the best price and service1 (I am also an eBay seller of many years...).

5.0 out of 5 stars Best iron ever from a quilter's point of view, June 23, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic NI-L70SR Cordless Steam/Dry Iron (Kitchen)
Do you have any idea how much ironing is involved in putting together a pieced top for a quilt? Loads. First there is the ironing of the freshly washed fabrics, then each square or portion of the piecing, and then the top in total must be pressed. All this is very tireing when constantly fighting a cord in your way. This great little iron cuts all the fighting of the cord for you. It's agreat addition to any quilters room. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cordless Iron, June 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic NI-L70SR Cordless Steam/Dry Iron (Kitchen)
Nice feeling iron. Ergonomic handle fits my hand nicely. I would like the iron to be a bit heavier. I feel like I'm having to press down hard on it to get rid of deep wrinkles in some fabrics. I also wish it was 1500 plus watts. It doesn't seem to get as hot as I would like for cotton fabrics as I would like. I'm used to 1500 watts, and this iron is 1450 max. if that. I'm not sure I will ever use the nice cover that comes with the iron as I hardly ever transport or put my iron away. The iron takes quite awhile to heat at first, but stays hot after the intial heating very well. It goes on and off the connecting base smoothly. While you are re-arranging the item you are ironing put the iron back in the base, and it maintains the heat well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the Oreck cordless, October 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic NI-L70SR Cordless Steam/Dry Iron (Kitchen)
I have had this iron for a month and so far, so good. I had the Oreck cordless and the major difference right off the bat is the weight of the Panasonic...much, much lighter than the (really) heavy Oreck. Time will tell if the Panasonic holds up to the demand I put on it. I am a machine quilter and the iron is used a lot! Owned the Oreck for about 5 years -- it "sprung a leak" and would throw hot water all over my work, the floor, the ironing board...what a hassle. Oreck will NOT repair their irons. Had the choice to either replace with another Oreck or try Panasonic (had better consumer reviews which helped me make this decision).

This iron replaced a $130 Oreck cordless. The Panasonic is lighter and handles much better. The construction is far superior to the Oreck. Best iron we've owned.
