2/25/11: 2ND UPDATE ON THIS IRON. NOW MY IRON IS ALMOST 2 YEARS OLD. I STILL LIKE THIS IRON, BUT AS YOU WILL READ IN MY FIRST REVIEW I PREFER SS SOLEPLATES. I IRON CONSTANTLY BETWEEN MY HUSBAND'S DRESS SHIRTS AND ALL THE SEWING I DO. THE TITANIUM FINISH IS JUST STARTING TO WEAR OFF. I ONLY NOTICED THIS BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE IRON WAS NOT GLIDING AS EASILY AS BEFORE. I DO THINK THAT I IRON MORE THAN THE AVERAGE PERSON SO THIS MAY NOT BE A DETERRANT FOR MOST PEOPLE. I STILL RECOMMEND THIS IRON AND IT IS STILL STEAMING AWAY, BUT I WILL BE PURCHASING PANASONIC'S STAINLESS STEEL SOLEPLATE. I'M TEMPTED TO TRY THE ROWENTA, BUT QUITE HONESTLY DON'T LIKE THE REVIEWS I AM READING FOR SUCH AN EXPENSIVE IRON. THINK I WILL STICK WITH PANASONIC. I'LL KEEP MY CURRENT IRON FOR MESSY PROJECTS.
This is my 3rd iron in 6 months. I have had this iron for about 1 1/2 months so I am still waiting to see if it holds up. So far so good. My first iron was a B&D Digital2030 iron. Lasted 4 months and quit. Handle got hot and iron would turn on to Setting 1 after it was turned off. 2nd iron was a Shark brand. Didn't work from day one. Would only turn on if you unplugged the cord and then replugged. Returned that. So far, this iron is performing great. For a 1200watt iron it produced a lot of steam even without pushing the burst of steam button. I iron all my husband's work/dress shirts and need an iron that is adequate for cotton. The titanium coated soleplate is nice, but I do prefer SS. The tip of the iron is the best I have had so far. It is quite pointed and really gets into tight spaces. I sew quite a lot and this is great for pressing out corners. I purchased the titanium soleplate because of fusibles that I work with and need to be able to remove it. So far so good. The retractable cord is a nice feature although my iron is up and ready all the time. The cord c/b a little longer, but is probably limited because it is retractable. It does work nicely. The base of the iron is not too heavy (as it looks)and stands on the base really well. For the steam it produces, the amount of water it uses is remarkable. You don't need to fill it constantly, and it is fairly easy to fill. Didn't see the need for a removable water resevoir. A word of caution though - the iron needs to go thru several sessions to remove whatever is inside it. There was a slight fragrance the first few times I used it and it did deposit an oily (?)spot which came out easily on my white shirts. It did go away and now is fine. All in all, I recommend this iron. If it doesn't hold up I will come back and update my review. I do not recommend DIGITAL IRONS. I don't think the technology is there yet especially if you sew and leave your iron on a lot. WELL, I HAVE HAD THIS IRON FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW AND I AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT. IT STILL PRODUCES A GREAT DEAL OF STEAM, THE SOLEPLATE IS HOLDING UP WELL, AND THE IRON HASN'T TIPPED OVER ON THE IRONING BOARD ONCE. I JUST PURCHASED ANOTHER ONE FOR MY SON BECAUSE HE NEEDS A RETRACTABLE CORD. EVEN IF THE IRON GOES KAPUT ON ME NOW, I THINK I WOULD STILL BUY IT AGAIN. I ALSO JUST REALIZED THAT THIS IRON HAS THE GOOD HOUSEKEEPING SEAL OF APPROVAL. THAT IS ALWAYS A PLUS FOR ME.

So far I've used this on pattern paper and several different types of fabric. It has a nice weight that you can allow to do most of the work for you, and it has a wonderful grip. It is fairly easy to fill the tank, and if you use a 3/4 cup measure to do it, you'll be just under Max - the tank is just over 6 oz.
It glides beautifully over my fabric, though I had to be a little careful with the paper, since this iron is fairly well weighted. It has both a spray button and a steam button, and a simple switch between dry, some steam, lots of steam. The retractable cord is a wonderful thing and works very well. Blessed thing to have when there are curious animals that like to chew on cords or anything string-like. Makes for neat storage, too! Heats quickly, and reheats quickly if it has shut itself off. It gives you 10 minutes if it is in the upright position, so that is plenty fine. I love this iron!

I have used Rowenta for years now, and have always loved the way I was able to get the burst of steam that I so desired, in which to help press out those stubborn wrinkles. The only reason I needed a new iron was due to I burnt out my iron, and it was time after about 10 years for a new one.
I read several reviews from people regarding this iron, and thought I was getting a good iron for a descent price, especially since I could not afford a Rowenta at this time. Well I was wrong, this iron is not worth the product used to make it. The burst of steam is a joke, and the water chamber holds only enough water to iron about 2 to 3 shirts. You get one burst of steam (if you are lucky) then you have to wait some time before you are allowed to get another one. My old Rowenta when I hit the burst of steam used to push the iron up off the ironing board, I can sneeze harder then the Panasonic's burst of steam. If you hit the burst button more than once you now get water leaking out of the steam jets, which then gives you water marks on your clothes. I iron quite a lot each week, and what used to take me about a half an hour now takes me almost 2 hours to do. Don't waste your money on this item, if you want something better take my advice and spend the extra money and buy Rowenta.
