Update

So I've officially owned this iron for over a year now and have used it on average once every two weeks to iron anywhere between 5 and 14 shirts at a time (my husband is an entertainer and goes through shirts like water). The Panasonic is still working as steadily as ever - I haven't had any problems with calcified water build up in the unit, the temperature is still great enough to iron and the steam amount is about the same. In terms of durability, I'd give it a solid thumbs up.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

There are several things about the Panasonic Iron that I like, but there are a lot more things that I dislike about it. First, the things I did not like about it:

1. The Titanium soleplate: I like the smoothness of polished stainless steel soleplate much more than the titanium. While the titanium plate doesn't stick to the fabric, it doesn't glide as smoothly as stainless steel does.

2. The feel of the Iron: This iron, while light, feels very flimsy to me. It's very plastic, and I get a little nervous standing this iron up on the "tripod of legs" this iron has to accommodate the football shaped soleplate. Also, while ironing, the handle warms up more than other irons.

3. No digital readouts: Ever since owning the Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron, I've been spoiled by a digital screen and all the indicators that come with it. The Panasonic has a simple dial to control the temperature and that's about it. The auto shut off is indicated by an orange light.

4. Not a huge amount of steam gets dispensed: In comparison to other irons, this iron does not put out as much steam.

However, there were things that I did like about the Panasonic Iron that would almost justify the cost of this item:

1. Multidirectional soleplate: I loved the multidirectional soleplate. Because there are two "points" to iron with, I was able to get through more shirts quickly.

2. The aesthetic design: The Panasonic Iron looks streamlined and classy, unlike other irons.

3. Long cord: The power cord on this iron is amazing. I was able to iron a distance away from the outlet without tripping.

Overall, the only real reason I would get this iron is for that soleplate. Because there are two "pointed ends" to this iron, I was able to iron much more efficiently. Asides from that, the iron itself is only average.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay iron but better ones are available, September 30, 2009
This review is from: Panasonic NI-W750TS 360-Degree Quick Multi-Directional Steam Iron, Silver and Black (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
For context, my present iron is the Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron which is a best-selling iron recommended by a "leading consumer magazine" and one that I am very pleased with. (Note: The D2030 seems to have been updated and the new model is Black & Decker D5000 Digital Evolution Iron, White.) Most people choosing an iron in this middle price range will be looking at the Black & Decker so in reviewing this Panasonic iron, I will do something different from a normal review and do a direct comparison to the Black & Decker which is the one to beat (and in the end the one I do prefer). The pricing is comparable and they are both made in China and seem well-constructed and have an auto-off feature.

First of all, I'm not impressed by the much-ballyhooed 360-Degree Quick Multi-Directional feature. Instead of having a sole plate shaped like an iron, it is shaped like a boat with a point at both ends. It is a good quality plate and appears to be cast rather than a folded sheet of stainless steel as on the B&D. The surface texture reminds me of the old Teflon pans and is not as smooth and does not glide as well although it does fine. I iron in both directions anyway (have I been doing it wrong all these years?) and mostly use the point to get up next to seams and around buttons so having another point at the bottom is not helpful. I experimented a lot and do not see how this could save time or effort. Others may disagree and it certainly seems like a good idea but in practice is of little use.

The Panasonic is slightly lighter than the B&D but the center of gravity is higher and gets even higher when filled with water. This makes the iron unstable and more likely to tip to one side. The higher center of gravity also makes it harder to set upright and causes it flop down quickly from the upright position. This is a safety issue as well as a cause of additional stress on the wrist. I never noticed how many times I pick up and set down the iron until it was flopping around!

The plastic in the Panasonic seems more brittle than the softer, more flexible plastic in the B&D. This is mostly a problem on the handle where it is less comfortable. It also lacks the soft rubbery grip of the B&D. The legs seem like they would break easily if the iron were dropped. In addition, there are several pieces of plastic joining together at the feet. If a leg breaks, this iron is garbage because it will not stand up whereas the B&D might. Who knows, in laboratory tests it may be even more durable but the Panasonic plastic just feels cheaper.

The temperature adjustment dial (with the fabric guide on it) is under the handle and is hard to see and awkward to adjust. The silver type on a black background would be difficult to make out even if it were not under the handle. This dial is also the on/off mechanism so the location is a safety issue. To make matters worse, the red "on" light is under the dial, also partially hidden by the handle. The location of the dial and light alone makes me unable to highly recommend this iron.

As far as heating up, the Panasonic does that well and the temperature variation is noticeable between settings. This iron also sprays and steams well enough but the B&D has more steam and I believe more steam is better, irons can never have too much steam. The B&D also comes with a cheap little water measuring cup with a spout which is handy because it is hard to pour water into these little holes and the Panasonic does not have one. ( I sometimes get nostalgic for the Coca-Cola bottle with the little sprinkler head held in by cork but I do admit that the steam does do a better job.) The adjustment slider for the steam is very accessible but easily bumped and I always leave the steam on high anyway. The water reservoir is truly transparent which is a nice feature whereas on the B&D it is translucent and I have to jostle the iron to see the water level.

The cord is about ten feet, same as the B&D. I would appreciate a couple more feet on the cord. It swivels very easily at the base which is nice. The B&D swivels but not as easily and to be honest I never noticed it before. You can store the cord well enough by wrapping it around the feet but only after the iron has cooled. ( I do not know if the manufacturer intended this.)

The color scheme and aesthetics of the Panasonic are nicer than the Black & Decker--it is more modern, more Japanese, a little lighter and much sexier than the B&D (which imitates the German irons in aesthetics), but in the end the Black & Decker is more stable, has temperature and on/off controls and safety light in better positions, is easier and more comfortable to handle, and has better spray and steam functions. The Panasonic does what it is supposed to do but the Black & Decker does it much better and perhaps more safely.

I will be glad to answer questions left in the comments.

5.0 out of 5 stars I hate to iron, but the Panasonic makes it easier, October 3, 2009

I have a very old Protor Silex Iron that I have been using for about 15 years. I really dislike ironing, but since I am now retired and want to save a few bucks, I try to wash and iron our shirts and blouses rather than spend money to take laundry to the cleaners.

I really like the Panasonic 360 Multi-Direction Iron. The swivel cord is a great advantage as I do not have to keep moving it out of my way since it sits at the top of the handle. The sole plate glides beautifully and does not "catch" on the material being ironed, keeping it from being creased while moving forwards and backwards or side to side.

The Panasonic has has a nice sized reservoir with the "max" fill line printed clearly to make sure you do not overfill. The steam buttons are very easy to use and setting the temperature for the material that is being ironed is just at the touch of a dial. It has the option of vertical steaming for curtains, which is a nice feature, but one I have not used as yet.

I have not compared this iron to any other newer models, but my personal opinion is that while I still do not like ironing, the Panasonic makes it easier to get through a shirt in a matter of a few minutes. I would recommend this iron.

What I love about this iron is its shape. Regardless of which direction the iron is ironing the results are as if you were pushing the iron forward, perfect every time. Not having the flat section in the back is great as that would leave a mark of where you stopped. No marks are left on the fabric with this iron. It is quick and right on target. The availability of the steam control works out well and I love the dot system corrulating with the manufacturers carelabel. The iron is light and it just glides along. It is a smart looking iron housed in silver and black. I hate to iron but I don't mind ironing at all with this iron as it cuts the time in half.

Given how well reviewed Panasonic irons are on the Internet, why is it that Target, Walmart, and the like don't carry them. This is especially true of the Panasonic 360 series. There's nothing like it on the market to compete. I've owned two high-end Rowenta's and both died in 1-2 years. I've owned 2 Black & Decker irons and both died in 1-2 years. I liked them all, but I'm getting tired of replacing irons. No more digital or high-tech irons for me. The digital wonders and displays do not help my clothes get smooth, but they sure stop me cold once they fail. This iron is great. The football shaped design really does what it says, it smooths ironing in both directions, no more bunch lines burned into my clothes. The iron has a nice solid feel and weight to it, which is most important to me. The low end irons always feel light and cheap. I took a risk ordering on the Internet because I wasn't able to see or touch one in any retail store. I suspect the simplicity of this iron's design, along with the sturdiness of how it feels will result in a long use appliance. Hmm, maybe that's why they won't carry these irons in stores!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unique concept iron is just OK, October 21, 2009
This review is from: Panasonic NI-W750TS 360-Degree Quick Multi-Directional Steam Iron, Silver and Black (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Panasonic NI-W750TS iron is futuristic looking iron with a novel soleplate that is pointed on both ends. This is supposed to make ironing easier, faster and more energy efficient since you will presumably be ironing more quickly thus using less energy. Well, that's a stretch as far as I'm concerned.

I've ironed, reluctantly, for many years using numerous kinds of irons. I've always moved the iron back and forth, side to side and every which way when I iron. Although the marketing of a 360-degree, multi-directional Steam Iron by Panasonic may be novel, I've been doing it for years without a pointy on both ends iron. So don't buy this iron with the idea that this is drastically going to reduce your ironing time. It won't.

Having said that, the pointy on both ends does sole plate occasionally make ironing a bit easier... think ironing around buttons or tricky areas around collars and pleats.

What's not so hot about the iron is the shortish cord which measures 8 feet and 4 inches. My Black & Decker Model 2030 iron has a 10 foot cord. I really feel crimped by the shorter cord on the Panasonic iron. Water capacity of the reservoir is another area that is skimpy. The Panasonic only holds 8oz of water whereas the Black & Decker 2030 holds 12 oz. You'll be filling the Panasonic much more frequently than you might desire.

The funky design of the iron is very unique looking with it's tripod-ish stand. It is actually more stable than you might think given the thinness of the legs. But the plastic does not inspire confidence in its durability and if the iron were to drop onto a hard floor, I fear the casing would crack easily. I don't want to test its durability for this review, but it just doesn't inspire me with much confidence.

I'm also concerned about the plastic lever that controls the steam volume. It too seems like it could easily snap off if dropped or handled roughly.

Is there anything I like about the iron? Yes, I do like the "titanium soleplate". It has a teflon-like appearance which seems to repel the sticking of spray starch and such. The soleplate is also very thin around all bottom edges which makes for easy maneuvering around buttons and tight, thick-seam areas.

I also sort of like the temperature control dial location. It is placed a bit further back, on top of the water reservoir which means you won't be inadvertently bumping it while ironing and inadvertently changing your temperature.

Steam volume seems adequate and the iron reaches temperature quickly enough.

It's an OK iron but I'm not sure I would buy it again. I much prefer the Black & Decker 2030.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good iron, February 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic NI-W750TS 360-Degree Quick Multi-Directional Steam Iron, Silver and Black (Kitchen)
I bought this to replace my 7 year old Panasonic Iron. I originally wanted a Rowenta, but after 4 stores, I couldn't get over how flimsy they felt, and the price. Came on Amazon and started looking for a trusted Panasonic. I chose this iron over the other Panasonics for various reasons. I did not buy this off the claims it cuts ironing time down by 25% and is multidirectional. I will say it does seem to cut ironing time down based off the wattage and the slighly larger soleplate. Larger soleplate=more coverage, plain and simple. As for the multidirectional, I always ironed side to side and in circular motions with no problems. I bought this iron because:

**The size: It is a bit bigger than the other Panasonic irons based off product descriptions. The soleplate runs the entire length of the iron, minus an inch at the bottom.

**Wattage: 1500 watts compared to the other Panasonics that were 1200.

**The Soleplate: It is football shaped an curved. I feel like this works to my advantage as I press quilt blocks open (not tiny).

**Slightly larger water tank: I quilt a lot and use the steam feature often. I hate having to refill my iron frequently.

**Drawback: No cord reel. I loved this about my old Panasonic iron, but for being the only description con, I could live with it.

**Vertical Steam option. I have a Kimono on my wall, and the kids sometimes touch it, so it does have a couple wrinkles

**Price: $40. Very Reasonable. There is another Panasonic Iron NIW450TS which is white for about $35. According to Panasonic website, it has the same exact features.

After using the item:

*Curved Soleplate: It's a love/dislike. It moves so smoothly. I don't remember my old iron moving this easily. Since I quilt, it does have a disadvantage with pressing open small blocks. I need the nose of the soleplate to be a bit lower, as it will miss small blocks, but moving the iron to the side and pressing it over from the center seems to work.

*Football shaped: a little extra soleplate.

*The cord is a lot longer than my old Panasonic iron. I do find myself tripping over it. The cord is on top of the iron, and also moves freely, so it is never in the way of my ironing. With the cord reel, it was always at the bottom base.

*Temperature dial: This is a like/dislike. I like how I can see the settings without looking under the base of the iron. However, it is a bit difficult to move. Only the other part of the dial moves, which is a thin piece with an arrow on it. My old panasonic the entire dial moved and I set to the light (aka arrow)

*Steam adjustment. I love the switch on the top. I know exactly what setting it is on with a glance. My old Panasonice had a push button with 3 height adjustments. I could never distinguish the 1st and 2nd settings, and the 2nd and 3rd settings.

*Steam vents: 74 of them. A lot more than most irons I had looked at in this price range, even a $70 Rowenta I was looking at

*Quiet. It doesn't gurgle like every other iron I used.

Overall, it is user friendly and would recommend it.

I purchased this iron based on previous reviews read. Like one other person, it hasn't changed how I iron, but has saved me time. I iron a lot of heavy weight fabric, denim and linen normally. I like the fact I don't have to continually refill the water for the steam function. I use a very hot iron most often and this works pretty good on denim. I don't have to work as hard on creases to remove same. The only issues I have is sometimes the pointed end gets caught on a seam and the setting dial is in a bit of an awkward spot, but ok if I use it from one side.

The cord is long enough for me, as long as I need it to be to iron around the corner from the outlet. It only took a short time to get used to how light it is and to make sure I use a steady hand to set it down until I need it again but I do have to be careful because it is so light and sometimes I tip it and lose water on my board if I am in a hurry. All in all, it is a good iron and I like that I can see the water level, too.

We have this product almost one month ago and it works excellent. Very futuristic design but most important is that it is very reliable.

Congrats Panasonic because you make our life easier. My wife wants to have a good iron and we were looking for a good one. We bought a couple but they were very dissapointing, this change when we bought a Panasonic NI-W750ts.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The first thing that impressed me about this iron was the design. The oval shape of the ironing plate makes for a lightweight device that is easier to maneuver around buttons and seams on garments. The shape of the ironing plate also allows for the 3-legged design for setting the iron upright. This feels more solid and less likely to tip over than the normal triangular design. The controls are easy to understand. It is easy to pour water into the iron. My one criticism is the lack of an "on" light. I am used to having a light somewhere on the iron to show me that I have left it plugged in. I think this is a good feature that was left off this model. The light on this iron shows that the iron is heating up, so the light goes on and off. The iron does have automatic off features: one minute if face down or on its side; 10 minutes if on its heel rest. Still, for safety purposes, I would have liked a light that I could glance at and reassure myself that I unplugged or turned off the iron. I really liked the lightweight feel of the iron and the oval shape of the plate. It makes for an easier job of ironing.
