Design, Capability Excellent, Workmanship Poor,

I think I got one of the first of these from Amazon. The door was not hung correctly, so it does not open or close easily, and the base of the unit is uneven, so it wobbles. Looks good, but disappointing workmanship and QA.

This microwave was purchased as a replacement for a 15 year old top of the line unit. The industry has come a long way in that amount of time. This unit has much quieter operation weighs half as much and the operation is much more streamlined. Making a batch of popcorn for a movie? Punch one button and your done. The cooking space is simply huge. After three months of ownership I would defiantly buy this oven again. I'm so impressed with it that I actually took the time to give my rating. That says a lot because I have purchased quite a bit from Amazon and this may be the best purchase yet. No need to be apprehensive about this one! You just can't go wrong here. After oly 1 year this very nice microwave simply died. No power to it, in fact I thought the circuit breaker had tripped but alas no. So, since the repair would have cost as much as the oven's replacement out it went.

This microwave lasted 6 mo. The closest service center is 100 mi. away from my home. They don't offer a mail in service.I was told I could take it to an unauthorised service dealer and pay the bill my self.Wow that took some brains to figure out.Thats all they could offer. So if you dont live in a big city like Las Vegas or LA. Dont buy.

We have had THREE of these in less than 6 months!,
This review is from: Panasonic NN-H964BF 2.2-Cubic-Foot 1250-Watt Microwave, Black (Kitchen)
My husband did a review of his product when we got the FIRST one, and you can read it above. He GENEROUSLY gave it three stars. Since that time, we have lived with these defected units for 6 months, and have now just seen the THIRD ONE go down. The first with the defective door was replaced, but my husband nearly had to take over the running of Panasonic to get that done, and even then with a cashier check! The second one is still in the original box: it failed within a couple weeks. I carted it around to the two service centers in Omaha for Panasonic, and nether one of them wanted anything to do with it because, they said, "Panasonic won't pay us." Now that we have two defective units on hand (we shipped the other vback to the panasonic warehouse in Pennsylvania) - and we did pay for both of them - perhaps we should open a parts store for this piece of junk. BUY ANYTHING BUT THIS MICROWAVE.

I purchased this microwave in August 2004 after our previous microwave, a 15 year old Toshiba unit finally failed. The Panasonic included a turntable, a feature not found in the old Toshiba, and it was considerably more powerful. Initial drawbacks/concerns included a small dent on the right side of the unit (not noticed until after the packing had been tossed, but not a big deal), and the lack of grip by the feet on the microwave - the unit will slide around much too easily. Slightly softer rubber feet would help. The capacity of the Panasonic is sufficient for all the meals we have wanted to cook, even fairly large containers.A recent downside was that the unit stopped working - a year and one month after purchase (after the warranty was out!) - no power was reaching the control panel. Suspecting the internal fuse, I started removing the screws (don't do this unless you know what you are doing) to remove the cover. After removing the two phillips head screws on the side, I found to my surprise that the remainder of the screws were Torx-like, with the addition of an annoying post in the center to discourage a standard Torx driver from working. Nevertheless, I pushed on and managed to remove all the screws, resorting to needlenose pliers for the last stubburn screw. I found the ceramic fuse towards the right rear of the unit on top, replaced it with a 15A fuse and tested - all was well! One note, the original fuse was a non-standard 18A fuse. Why couldn't Panasonic use either the 15A or 20A standards? So far, so good with the 15A, but it's early in the life of this new fuse. If this one blows out, I'll have to break down and hunt for a special 18A ceramic to match the original.

Tube Smoked and Died in Under 3 Years of Light Use,
By Janardana "Janardana" (LOUISIANA) - See all my reviews

Thu unit failed into its third year. It suddenly smoked and died, without warning. The unit was put in service for light duty only, mainly for reheating already prepared foods. On sum, its cost averaged about $45 per year of service. Considering the other product reviews of this item together with my own experience, it is apparent that Panasonic "knows something" when it backs this unit with only a "one year limited warranty", and this should tell you something, too. If you want dependability and longevity, then this product is not for you. Also, because of the potential electrical fire hazard, the operation of this and all electrical units should be attended and supervised by a capable, responsible, alert and attentive adult.

This is the largest microwave I have ever owned. It is also the most powerful. It took a while for me to get used to the extreme power. If you are used to less powerful microwaves, then you will have to adjust the cooking times of everything that you cook. At first, I burned a couple of things and I still have to remind myself to only cook things for the least recommended time. It is also very quiet. One thing that I absolutely love is the popcorn button. Usually microwaves that have this feature make you press the button several times to make the standard 3.5 oz bag, but on this one you press the button once and then press start and that is it. It comes out perfect every time! I have not had any major problems with it. My only complaint is that it doesn't fit on my counter well because it requires a bigger area on the counter than my old unit. It also seems to heat plates to the point where you can't pick them up when you are reheating foods. That is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.UPDATE: We did't use ours much for two years because we moved and were renting a home with a built in unit. 5 months of light use at our new home, it died. Basically this all adds up to less than a year of use. I am not surprised that it is unavailable now.

We specifically shopped for a larger microwave with a turntable of at least 15" in diameter. It has been up and running for over a month and it has done everything we've asked of it. We've used it daily for everything from re-heating to sensor-cooking/re-heating. It is a very good value and it has pleased us. ONE CAVEAT: the power setting must be done first, then the cook-time. This is taking a little getting used to. In our other microwave ovens, power settings were punched in AFTER the time setting.
