The PV-9450 impressed us with its simplicity; we took it out of the box, connected an antenna and TV, and plugged it in. We then followed the initial on-screen setup instructions and, by itself, the unit found the active broadcast channels and even set its clock. We played a prerecorded tape and found the picture to be crisp and sharp. The PV-9450's audio was rich and full, characteristic of hi-fi stereo.
Another interesting feature of the PV-9450 is a time stamp, which, at the beginning of a videotape, displays the time and date of your recording and the channel from which it was recorded. A tape-position display shows how close you are to the beginning or end of a tape.
The remote control, unlike the VCR, is a bit bulky, and its many buttons get in the way of the few you'll use most of the time. Of course, it is a universal remote, and, as such, must sacrifice some design elegance.
If the most important features to you are 4-head picture quality and hi-fi stereo sound, then Panasonic PV-9450 is a sensible choice.

Great for the price,

First I wanted to say that the comment about it not having a tape counter, almost talked me out of buying this model. However it DOES have a counter, perhaps the reviewer was referring to the fact that it isn't displayed on the front panel, only on the TV.My only disappointment with this unit is the remote. The lighted button idea sounded great, but all it does is light the big VCR-related buttons which are easy enough to distinquish by feel. I hoped it would light the small, clumped together, buttons. Otherwise the picture quality is great, as is the sound, and I like some of the extras, such as; channel labeling, "remaining tape" display, labeled indexing, and the "skip one minute" button.

I love my panasonic vcr!,

I bought the model before: the PV-8450 two years ago after some research in consumer reports. The 8450 has super reliability (no problems) and picture and sound quality comparable to the top vcr brands (sony, mitsubitshi, and toshiba.) I also really like the fact that this vcr can record in LP mode. Tapes in LP mode hold 4 hours and play better in my panasonic than other vcrs. I was so impressed, i also went out and got the PV-945H. This one is just as good if not better and has some added custimize onscreen labels for programs. Super vcrs! The only problem is the odd shape of the remote.

EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS,

The picture quality is better than my JVC 4 head Hi Fi VCR.The stereo dbx sound is flawless. The remote works quicker than any Ihave ever used. It records stereo movies from Showtime and HBO to tapes that equal factory videos. Still pictures are completely noiseless, as in search and reveiw. The only complaint I have is that the so called lighted remote is not really lighted. I own eight VCR's and this is the least expensive one I have purchased. And yet it is just about the best.
