4.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding--for what it is
Need a clock radio? Need a bedroom stereo? You get both with this baby. I really needed a VERY good clock radio--with my sleep problems--and this thing has fit the bill. [When I bought this item I paid] no tax and free shipping--this attractive, great sounding unit is worth much more, and--while not "perfect"--it is really, REALLY good. Check out the trick "sleep"...

This could have been the perfect alarm clock, BUT! The second alarm is just a buzzer not CD/Radio. So shapen you claws when trying to figure out which one of you gets to wake up to Marvin Gaye and which one gets BEEP BEEP BEEP.
Being able to set the alarm to come out of either or both speakers, along with the snooze/off controls on both speakers is just awsome! The sound is not as great as a Bose Wave and the radio reception is a little weak, but what do you want for under [price].
On last grip is that they set the alarm such that if one speaker is going off you can not snooze/off the alarm with the other speaker. What's with that? I have to roll over to the other side of the bed to turn off HER alarm when I have a perfectly good OFF button an arms length away.
For the price this is a great clock radio, and I would recommend it to every King Size bed couple out there, except for the lack of a second CD/Radio Alarm.

Check out the trick "sleep" buttons on each speaker (for the dual alarms)--that alone is worth the money! Plus, this unit sounds really good (and looks good, too). Highly recommended (if this is what you're looking for).

I am impressed with the Panasonic RC-CD600. The sound is awesome and the dual alarms are great. I need a buzzer to wake and hubby loves the radio or CD choice. I love the small remote and the options to change the sound from it. You could not ask for a better alarm music system at such a great price. Your shipping was quick and it arrived in perfect shape. There is nothing I didn't like. In fact I am thinking about getting another one for a gift.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good unit....until it failed, March 8, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic RC-CD600 Portable CD/Clock Radio (Electronics)
This clock radio seemed to have it all; 2 alarms, CD player, sleep mode, detachable speaker with its own controls, remote.
The sound was a bit thin compared to the Denon we'd previously used, but the Denon was bigger and heavier. (It had failed after 10 or 12 years.) But the new unit was easy to set and the two alarms were sometimes useful, though of course one is buzzer-only.
We bought the Panasonic in late August. Last night, early March, we couldn't set the alarm. Pushing the buttons did nothing. In fact, the unit didn't respond to any of the buttons, even the power switch. We could turn it on with the remote, but you can't set the alarm functions with the remote. So I ended up pulling the $10 no-name-from-Walgreens clock-radio from my son's room in to use. (The Walgreen's unit is ancient, by the way.)
Nothing would get the Panasonic to work today, and their 800 number directs you, of course, to the web site. Per the web site, your warranty option is to ship it to Texas and get a 'refurbished' unit back, in ten days or so, they say. Great!
I am also currently trying to find a decent replacement for my miserable Siemens home/office phone system which also got funky within six months of purchase.
Doesn't anything work--AND KEEP WORKING--anymore?

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty nice overall, but spouse gets to wake to the buzzer, April 6, 2004

This was our second attempt to find a CD clock radio with battery backup and dual alarms. Reception is great, and audio quality is consistently Panasonic (great!) The battery backup will retain the time during power outages (not just for two minutes like some of the other units), but the "dual alarm" feature is slightly deceiving. With this unit, you can choose (for each alarm) whether the left, right, or both speakers will be triggered by the alarm. Unfortunately, "alarm 1" is CD or radio (with frequency and volume preset as part of the alarm), but "alarm 2" is the buzzer only. Granted, it is a relatively pleasant buzzer. This is yet-another piece of consumer electronics that is just this close to perfect, lacking only a tiny bit of software to overcome an obvious shortcoming.

I am nicely surprised by the quality of this product. The sound quality is great, and once you experience the two-speaker stereo sound of this "clock radio", you'll never settle for the bad canned sound from those little one-speaker clock radios again. I have not, yet, found a single thing wrong with this, and I even splurged and bought another one for my kitchen instead of my initial plan of buying a compact stereo system.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice but no cigar, April 20, 2004

Very decent alarm clock, better than anything I've tried in this price range. Unfortunately, it missed on few features. It does not have Weekend mode like Philips (that's a real shame.) It does not have Gentle Wake as Sony. CD player has a bad glitch - the transport does not have memory so playback always starts not from the last position but from the first track. Well, second alarm can be only buzz.

Overall it's not bad. At least it has battery backup, which somehow is missing on many other (and quite expensive) alarm clocks.

2.0 out of 5 stars poor quality, January 14, 2005
This review is from: Panasonic RC-CD600 Portable CD/Clock Radio (Electronics)
I returned this item and took a big hit on restocking fees/ shipping, etc, so i am a bit bitter. i should have got it from amazon. why did i return it?
1) the build is poor quality plastic.
2) the sound was horrible. i could not get any decent radio stations. (i live near downtown) even the cd player was of mediocre quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very good product, February 1, 2006
This review is from: Panasonic RC-CD600 Portable CD/Clock Radio (Electronics)
A little pricey, but worth it. It is hard to find a CD Clock radio with digital tuning, decent sound quality and a large display clock. The clock display is actually LED, and much easier to read than LCD. Sound quality is good, better than most clock radios, stereo or mono, but certainly not as good as a Bose, CSW or Kloss. Some things miss the mark as other reviewers mention, gentle wake (alarm fades up slowly when it first goes off) would be a nice touch, and alarm 2 is buzzer only - a big fowl on Panasonic's part. Overall, a very good product with a few flaws, but after spending weeks looking, buying and returning other brands, I'll stick with this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Unit With a Quirk, August 20, 2006

This is a good digital tuner unit, with solid sound quality, remote and an external antenna to improve station quality. We have had this radio for a couple of years now. I am writing this review to address the specific problem brought up by a previous reviewer, specifically that the buttons on the unit stop working. This too happened to us. After disconnecting the unit from the wall for a short period of time, we found that the buttons on the unit stopped working. At first all of the buttons were unresponsive and the unit would only respond to its remote, but at some point the side buttons came back to life and only the front ones continued to malfunction. Fortunately, after an extended power outage, the front buttons finally came back as well. This defect may recur in the future, at which point I'll try disconnecting the unit and removing the backup battery to affect a reset. The RC-CD600 is a good unit with a quirk.
