5.0 out of 5 stars Cute, Small, Terrific Sound, Great Volume Control, September 11, 2007
This review is from: Panasonic RP-HS52 Shockwave¨ Clip-on and Straps Design Headphones with In-line Volume Control (Electronics)
Another solid performer from Panasonic. The sound is great, from the treble all the way down to the bass. I usually test the treble on Kate Bush's "Coffee Homeground", which features her about an octave and a half above the staff, accessorized with many piccolos, and the 'phones reproduced everything with no squeaking or static, so that's an A+. Heart's "Barracuda" is my bass proofer, and I can clearly hear the difference between the bass and the paralelling guitar lines, so that one's also an A+.

They look exceptionally cool, if that's important to you, and the Panasonic engineers have finally figured out how to do those little over-the-ear clips so they will actually work.

The volume control is an easy-to-control thumbwheel, and now I'm starting to wonder why we've been wasting our time with sliders instead.

There is significant sound leakage from the 'phones, which might not be so bad if you're with buddies, but could be annoying if you're a Callas fan in a roomful of rappers.

4.0 out of 5 stars touchy dials, March 13, 2007

these headphones worked great, but the dial to adjust the volume up/down was so easily turned you might find yourself straining to hear or cringing from the loud just because you accidentally brushed it on your clothing by turning your head one way or the other.

2.0 out of 5 stars Should have stuck with the RP-HG50s, July 24, 2008

This review is from: Panasonic RP-HS52 Shockwave¨ Clip-on and Straps Design Headphones with In-line Volume Control (Electronics)
I previously bought the Panasonic RP-HG50 Neck Band Headphones with XBS® Extra Bass System and wanted an extra pair to go to the gym. The foam pads on the HG50s fell off too easily and I did not notice when it happened so I had to replace them with ill fitting Plantronic ear cushions. Anyway, the sound on the HG50s is great, I cannot say that about these RP-HG52s. The sound is weak and tinny, nowhere near the bass of the HG50s. I doubt I will ever use these and will probably give them away, looks like I'll be looking for another set of ear cushions for my HG50s.

If you like bass get the RP-HG50's instead. They seem to stay on my ears better than these, and I don't mind the neckband. My ideal set is actually not designed, I wish the Sennheiser PMX100 Supra-Aural Mini-Neckband Stereo Headphones had a volume control. Those have been the best, but without volume control they are useless for me when I exercise - reaching for the volume control on the Panasonic headphones won't cause me to fall. I have already nearly fallen a few times when I was trying to mess with getting my iPod out of my pocket and fixing the volume on it directly.

Pros: Volume control, lightweight
Cons: Tinny sound, no bass, clip headphones don't stay on my ears as well as neckband headphones - especially when exercising.
