4.0 out of 5 stars Big bang for the buck

The sound quality is remarkably good for the price, especially if you're using them primarily to watch movies, when the 'Surround Sound' gives the music and FX a lot more presence.

The sound quality is remarkably good for the price, especially if you're using them primarily to watch movies, when the 'Surround Sound' gives the music and FX a lot more presence.

Pros (5 stars)
- Price
- Sound quality when 'surround' is switched on [phones still work when it's off]
- Volume control [also works when 'surround' is off]
- Over-the-ear cups help shut out any ambient room noise
- Extra long cord [16.4 ft]

Cons (1 star)
- Surround sound requires 1 AAA battery [phones still work without one, and with 'surround' off, but the sound is pretty thin by comparison]
- Slightly heavier than others we tried, but still reasonably light [10.6 oz]
- Head band a bit tight at first, but loosens up with use

for the price and the 50 mm driver, plus it's a panasonic. The price is excellent and it has surround sound, highly reccomended vs others in the price range. It delivers rich mids, trebles, and good bass, it has great acoustic sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars One for the money..., August 27, 2006

I have been thinking about buying surround sound headphones for the longest time. Finally, after buying a 50" plasma, I decided it was time to get serious. Started out by looking at several websites and found these. Not really a whole lot of reviews, but I decided to take a chance on them. In a word, wow. For the money, you cannot beat these. I even payed the $45 to have them delivered on Saturday and even at a cost of $79, these are amazing.

Great sound for movies, but where they also shine is gaming. I have my Xbox 360 hooked up through my surround sound system and with the headphones on, you hear things you never heard before. Call of Duty 2 has never sounded better! Buy these, they are terrific!

I had spent some time over the last few months looking at surround sound headphones but never actually made a purchase. The only real thing holding me back was the price... I wasn't sure about dropping $100-$200 on a pair of headphones. Well my fiance found these for me on the panasonic website and they seemed to fit the bill nicely. Honestly I wasn't really expecting all that much for the price, but WOW I'm impressed. I use them mostly for PC gaming and it really does add a whole new dimension. Great for games, music and movies too. I'd buy them again in an instant (in fact I may buy a second pair to give to my sister soon).

This review is from: Panasonic RP-HT722 Monitor Headphones with Built-in Surround Control (Electronics)
I recently moved into an apartment and needed to downgrade from a 5.1 speaker system to a pair of headphones. I was sorely disappointed with the performance of this pair.

The surround sound effect is a joke. The best way to describe it is to take a regular pair of headphones and pull them about 1/2 inch away from you ears. That's it, it's a slightly more open sound, but hardly surround. Additionally, using the surround sound feature muffles the sound and lowers the maximum volume.

The bass and maximum volume were also a major issue. First the bass, there is none. You get bass noise, but no bass effect. The maximum volume also turned out to be very disappointing, especially when gaming. I adjusted every windows setting, speaker setting, application setting to make sure I was get as much noise as possible, but it fell way short of what I was looking for.

To sum it up, avoid these headphones. They ruin the immersion quality of games where sound is important - Half Life Series, Call of Duty series, etc. These headphones also lack any sort of power if that's what you're looking for. I literally could have cried at the lack of bass with this unit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money - good set for the casual listener, June 23, 2008

So I did what the wife wanted me to do and installed a Panasonic 50" plasma and ceiling speakers to clean up the family room. She always hated the Hitachi DLP and Polk Audio floor speaker setup. Needless to say, she didn't anticipate the bleed through from the ceiling speakers into our bedroom upstairs. Usually it's not too bad, but I like to watch movies late at night when the kids are sleeping and Saving Private Ryan or Cloverfield doesn't go over well at midnight.

So I got the green light to pick up a pair of headphones for Father's Day. Off I went to the Sony store to check out the latest Dolby Digital 5.1 wireless h/p. Nice. Sounds great. $400. Better check out the internet and see what else is available.

If your like me and did a search for "headphone"+"surround" you came across the Panasonic RP-whatever that I'm reviewing currently. $30. Tell me more. Most people seem to like them. Tell me more. Most of the people that didn't like the h/p thought that they should sound more like the $400 5.1.

So what's the verdict? Bottom line - for $30 you can't go wrong. They sound really darn good. Better than any earbuds. I only wish that active noise cancelling was also added to the package. As for the "Surround" sound, it's more like Dolby 2.0. Opens up the mid-range a bit - but deep bass is still missing.

You ask what I did with the $370 that I saved? Put it into the kid's college fund.

I wasn't expecting much from these headphones considering the $35 price point but I have to say that I'm very impressed.I've tried these with an assortment of devices and they make just about everything sound better.Where they really shine is with current-release DVDs that have a clean and up to date soundtrack, especially those Pixar/Disney animated features. All of the audio tracks are very clear and these headphones even have good bass response. They're also very good with video games.I've been using these with my Xbox and they put my old Kinyo surround headphones to shame.I'm sure some of the more expensive top-end headphones sound better than these but why pay the extra cash when you can get these for only $35?

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Headphones ive ever had., January 30, 2007
This review is from: Panasonic RP-HT722 Monitor Headphones with Built-in Surround Control (Electronics)
Pros: I love these suckers. They provide amazing sound with the OPR on or off, and the surround upmixer even works when you plug it into your iPod to watch movies. For gaming, Ive never had a better experience with headphones. Even after trying the much more expensive Medusa gaming headphones I think these provide the clearest and truest surround sound.

Cons: Not easily transportable, but Im not taking them anywhere...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for comfort!, August 29, 2011

This review is from: Panasonic RP-HT722 Monitor Headphones with Built-in Surround Control (Electronics)
I really like how comfortable these are. There's a very large cushion area and plenty of room for your ears so even after wearing them a long time, my ears don't get cramped/sore. Sometimes it seems like the sound quality for some things is better when they're powered off (like for non-surround sound things like TV shows or music), but it might not be as noticable when the batteries are brand new. They do muffle some sound, but I don't think they're really meant as noise-canceling. I like having the sound control on the headphones (which works when switched on or off) and use them all the time. They're cushioned enough where I can have my head resting slightly to the side on a pillow and it doesn't bother me. There seems to be pretty good adjustment range on them. I also like the long cord! Overall, good headphones for a decent price and I use them all the time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Get what you pay for, June 26, 2011

Not the best quality sound. The surround seems to be more like a bass boost or something. But necessary to get the better quality over the non-boosted. Batteries run out relatively fast. After a couple years one of the wires must have gave out as started losing sound in one ear phone.

For a cheap head phone they held up pretty well and with the boost were better than most. But if you can afford it go for something a bit better.
