2.0 out of 5 stars By No Means DJ Headphones-Light and Cheap
I read that some DJ's were using these headphones for in Club use and were happy with their performance. So I thought that I would give them a shot for $40; just for back up and see if they worked out. The styling alone would be a welcomed change and was my incentive. However, the headphones are smaller than I thought (even though they are 40mm drivers), flimsy and leak...

I was looking for a closed back headphone to block noise and purchased these and the Koss QZ99. The QZ99 is designed as a passive noise canceling headphone and is supposed to be the one to buy if you need to block out random noises. I tried active noise canceling headphones, but soon learned that they are really best for canceling droning noises, like being on an airplane, not for when a bus goes down the street (I live in the city).

Everything review I've read about the Panasonics is true, they are a very good headphone at any price, but a great value at $40. If the Koss's get a 10 for blocking noise, these would get a 7. But the sound quality is so much better, and they're so comfortable that I'll be returning the Koss's.

Sound quality is warm with clear highs and mids, but the bass is too boomy, which can be tiring. But using the "bass reducer" setting in iTunes makes them almost perfect. Comfort wise, they're the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned and let's not forget that they're also one of the best looking headphones out there.

Now If I can just put the guts of my bluetooth headphones into them and make them wireless they'd be the perfect headphone.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic RP-HTX7PP-W Retro Style Monitor Headphones (White) (Electronics)
I read that some DJ's were using these headphones for in Club use and were happy with their performance. So I thought that I would give them a shot for $40; just for back up and see if they worked out. The styling alone would be a welcomed change and was my incentive. However, the headphones are smaller than I thought (even though they are 40mm drivers), flimsy and leak a considerable amount of outside noise. I would never recommend these for a DJ. Low end is hollow and difficult to discern. Therefore, one would have to turn the volume up considerably to hear the distinctions between the kick and snare drums in a live cue; all the while the headphone signal will have to compete with the outside club noise leaking in...again...more volume. Hence: HEARING DAMAGE! Performance of these validate about a $25 price point. Styling may warrant close to the $40; if you're more into look than sound. I recommend these as an accessory for your personal media player.

4.0 out of 5 stars Audiophiles won't love 'em, but I do., June 17, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic RP-HTX7PP-W Retro Style Monitor Headphones (White) (Electronics)
These headphones are more or less exactly what I wanted when I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD-280s. See, I let myself get fooled into thinking I'm more of am audiophile than I am, and coming off a pair of Sennheisers I'd really liked, I was ready to buy another pair.

They turned out to be huge, heavy, uncomfortable, and -- I'll admit it -- didn't have as much bass as I wanted, which I suppose is what audiophiles do like. Fair enough, but they just didn't work at all for me.

These, on the other hand, are eye-catching, light, and comfortable for frequent use. I bought these expressly for using at work in an office at a desk, and they're never going to venture outside. But I get enough isolation from the outside noise of people in the lunchroom to know that they're pretty good at covering sound, but they let in enough for me to know when people need to talk to me -- that balance is important for me, anyway.

I'm really happy with these and would definitely recommend them for an office environment/desk listening at the very least.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Headphones, July 8, 2007
This review is from: Panasonic RP-HTX7PP-W Retro Style Monitor Headphones (White) (Electronics)
I love these headphones. They're very comfortable {soft and padded all over, big enough to fit totally over My ears, very adjustable.} with excellent sound quality. The cord they come with is long enough for Me to comfortably listen to My ipod, but it comes with an extension and adapter for different jacks if you need it. Most of all, they are the most stylish large headphones that I've been able to find. I hate the really boring, molded plastic-y look of most headphones -- these are perfect, I plan to buy more in different colors.

Granted, they are big and not collapsible - so if you're looking for something compact to take when you're traveling, these are probably not it. Although they do hold up nicely when hung over the strap of your bag or around your neck when not in use.

4.0 out of 5 stars good value, December 23, 2007

I have used these headphones for about a month now and I really like them. I'm echoing a lot of other reviews, but their points are worth mentioning... They are comfortable, pretty stylish and have produce very good sound for the casual listener or someone bored while commuting. Sometimes I take them off and hang them around my neck and just listen to them like that if I need to hear around me because the volume is very good for something that does not use batteries. The are big, so they fit over the average person's ears well. I look a little silly in them (as another person said) because I am tiny girl with a small head. Also, the pads always have the tendency to slip a little bit while you are listening, so if you adjust them upward because you have a small head, they will usually slip back toward the bottom within an hour or so. But overall, I think they are an excellent buy.

PROS:
- comfortable
- stylish
- impressive volume
- cancels noise: I take the bus to school and work and it blocks out a lot of the noise even at a low volume

CONS
- the top doesn't collapse so you can't easily tuck them away
- heavy bass
- pads slip down toward the bottom, not the best for small heads

4.0 out of 5 stars Great buy at mid-$30's, September 23, 2009
By
This review is from: Panasonic RP-HTX7PP-W Retro Style Monitor Headphones (White) (Electronics)
I bought these in White simply because i wear all white on a daily basis, and i was looking for a retro-styled piece to accent my wardrobe and for some studio shoots.

I run a studio (music video's) and we use much different equipment, but i am loathe to take out the high end gear for personal use (tends to get a bit frazzled and/or wet) and really only bought these as an accent piece, but was surprised by the quality for mid-$30 range shipped; in fact i bought 2 pairs (i dont treat my gear too well) so i have a spare set in the studio for mid-afternoon jogs etc. I travel a lot; things get damaged, lost, stolen, wet, used and abused; these have held up great thus far.

Im not a big believer in sound suppression and noise dampening; i prefer to listen to music as-is; the outside environment is an added aural treat, but i was rather surprised and pleased with their performance; they are by no means pro or even dj quality by any means, in the same token much as your point-and-shoot camera is not a professional D-SLR nor your handycam is a pro camera, but they are at least the equivalent of pro-sumer equipment for the money. Like i said i only bought them as a wardrobe accent but found myself using them over much more expensive Sony MDR-SA5000 (around $400) studio quality units due to their practicality and the fact i'd rather not foul up my nice pieces.

Personally i listen to mostly French House and Indie, so the lows/highs on these serve my just fine, i can hear mids great according to my last hearing test and i usually gain them up a bit anyways and cut out the highs past 10k when listening at mid to high volume other than previewing recordings etc, so these work out ok overall. I wouldnt be embarrassed to use these in the studio in an emergency really; they are the best 'cheap' headphones ive ever had.

Bottom line for mid-$30's; buy em, abuse em, and dont worry about em till they go missing. An added bonus, they are actually pretty comfortable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Headset in the listed price, September 15, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic RP-HTX7PP-W Retro Style Monitor Headphones (White) (Electronics)
Its been almost a month that I am using this headset. I didn't think that in this much less cost I will get a quite satisfactory product. The headset is quite comfortable and is adjustable. Its headband strap is too good. It doesn't pull your hair. Moreover the sound clarity is awesome. Well if u are too much concerned about the every beat of the music and the extra details then this might not be your choice. I think you should go for sony or Boss in that case. But still you can hear the sound very clearly. I would definitely recommend this within $30 for its comfortness and sound clarity.
I rated it as 4 because I am comparing the sound clarity with Sony and Boss. Otherwise w.r.t price it can be rated as 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spot on, July 22, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic RP-HTX7PP-W Retro Style Monitor Headphones (White) (Electronics)
I didn't actually get mine through Amazon, my old headphones died some time ago and I had to go shopping, went around the city here and tried a lot of different makes and models, from cheap to disgustingly expensive. I took my media player along (iAudio X5), and these left everything else in the dust, from comfort to sound quality. While they seem to leak hardly anything to the outside world (I check with other guys in the office just in case), you can still hear someone talking to you from a desk away - just right for my needs.

Some people have said there's too much bass, I personally think it's more along the lines of them actually having adequate bass, unlike most. When I first tried them I went to turn the bass down, and then of course realised all I was doing was flattening the EQ, instead of boosting it as I had to do with everything else. Turn all your boosts off, these headphones don't need it.

Another important thing worth mentioning is they're very responsive - they sound as loud as most models (including other closed types) when the source is considerably quieter - helpful for battery life..

I liked them so much I bought 3 sets, learned the hard way when I found my previous ones had gone out of production!

5.0 out of 5 stars great, December 26, 2007
This review is from: Panasonic RP-HTX7PP-W Retro Style Monitor Headphones (White) (Electronics)
I do not regret buying these. Such a great price and value. All I had before them were the wimpy and uncomfortable earphones that came with my ipod. These do not hurt my ears and are very light. The cord that comes with it is very durable, and the only thing that could be better is if the cord was l-shaped at the connector (the part that goes in your ipod) since it is straight and sticks out - this isnt really a problem. Overall the product seems very well constructed and I havent had any part break. The sound is very nice too, especially if you enjoy listening to something like hip-hop or anything with bass. If you want more out of your listening experience without too much expense, these headphones are a good-looking choice to take you one step up! It is definitely worth the buy if you are a very musical person - for me switching from earbuds to over-ear headphones is like going from 2-D to 3-D!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Quality for the Price, November 1, 2007
This review is from: Panasonic RP-HTX7PP-W Retro Style Monitor Headphones (White) (Electronics)
To be perfectly honest, I purchased these headphones mostly based on appearance. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the sound quality is actually very good, and they do a good job with noise cancellation. The only complaint I have is that they look a little goofy if you have a smaller head because there are gaps where the band meets the headphones. Besides that, they're a pretty sick buy for the money.
