Very comfortable. Excellent midrange and treble. Very shallow bass. Poor outside noise blockage.

The radio station's Koss TD-80's felt tight and heavy, and the comparably priced Radio Shack pair I purchased were so loose I didn't feel like I was wearing them. This Panasonic pair is--for me, at least--the charm. Soft, light, compact, secure but not tight. Of course, headphone decisions appear to be highly subjective. For me, it starts with comfort. As for the sound, I'd say that Panasonic's descriptive term, "Basic," is excessively modest. The sound is more live and present, along with providing brighter treble and less boomy bass, than the Radio Shack's. Perhaps the Koss phones have a very slight edge in bass "definition," but the comfort and convenience, along with the greater sensitivity of the Panasonic pair, make them a clear winner. As for the "amount" of bass, I find them so responsive that I'm turning off the XBS on my cassette deck. But then I'm listening for accurate reproduction of the acoustic bass rather than seeking some sort of extra-musical, sub-sonic thrill.

My only "complaints": It's too much cord for my purposes. A coiled version would have been more practical. Also, unlike other reviewers, I find the Panasonic's sealing out too much, rather than too little, outside sound. If you're old-fashioned enough to regard "live music" as the standard of reference, you'll realize that under ideal listening circumstances the listener is never hermetically sealed off from all surrounding sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BUY!, January 28, 2001

I really loved these headphones! They have good bass for all of you who like hip hop, but for all of you who like classic music you will get a real clear sound. It doesn't stop there they are so comfortable it's like a pillow on your ears. I also thought they had a good length of cord so you don't have to be all scrunched close to your stereo or cd player. All in all these are great headphones for a great price

5.0 out of 5 stars Best I've Had In A Long Line of Headphones I've Been Through, March 17, 2002
This review is from: Panasonic RPHT710 Basic Headphones (Electronics)
Excellent headphones. This is the 5th set of headphones I've gone through and I'll be sticking with these for awhile for a few reasons. First, they're durable and made to last. The headband is padded and strong and won't snap, warp, or bend. The cups are very secure. And, most importantly, the single wire config is well protected, especially at the point of connection on the cup.

Second, the sound is excellent. Very clear and crisp. I mean VERY CLEAR and CRISP. The sound really surrounds the ear because of the 50mm cups which really adds to encompassing you in the music. I used to have a problem with the bass, but then I found out that it was the source of the music that made the bass shallow (my laptop). When I went to a different source (my walkman) I really knew what they meant by the Brainshaker Technology.

These headphones are not very good at filtering out external noises, but I don't mind, in fact I prefer it that way. I like to know what's going on around me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Studio Quality, January 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic RPHT710 Basic Headphones (Electronics)
Don't let Panasonic fool you with the "Basic" misnomer. These headphones are definitely one of the best studio pairs you can find. I have only used them for two weeks now, so I can't give you a good idea of their durability. Let me break this product down for you...

Sound-
The most important aspect of a pair of headphones is sound. For the price range, the 710's probably deliver the best. The frequency response is advertised as 5hz-27khz, however the package said it was 8hz instead. But, that's not much to gripe about. The clarity at high frequencies is unbelievable. After using them for two weeks, the bass has increased in power. But, it will not thump the bass unless the bass is meant to be thumped. So, if you want all of your bass to be thumped, you'd have to get an amplifier. You can't just turn the volume up on these things cause the bass will blow your eardrums out. Believe me, I had a serious headache after listening to some hardcore at a little higher volume than usual. One more thing, you won't get any unwanted distortion with the 710's.

Comfort-
The second most important aspect is comfort; you can't enjoy the sound if your head is getting squeezed to death. I found them to be quite comfortable. They need some breaking in at first, but eventually you should be able to forget they are on your head. I use them while mixing on my PC for 3-4 hour periods and feel fine.

Design-
Ok, I guess I've got to say a few things about the design. These can be folded up somewhat. Not enough to get excited about. However, they are not the sturdiest things in the world, so I wouldn't be stuffing them into a bag or other luggage anyway. If you have to take them somewhere, make sure they are well protected. They have little plastic swivels just above the drivers that adjust to your head for added comfort. These look fairly fragile and I can't help asking, "Why in the world didn't they use metal?" A note to DJs, they can be positioned for single side monitoring.

Looks-
I don't care about looks as long as they get the job done. However, there are those of you who just have to look cool. If you are thinking about getting these things for portable use, forget it. They are way too big. If you are going to use them as a DJ or in the studio, you couldn't do much better.

Efficiency-
In this price range, they have to be the most efficient of all. Don't wait; buy 'em!

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!, December 20, 2001

I have had these for over a year and LOVE them! They have HUGE 50MM drivers, for superb bass. They excell with all forms of music. They are very inexpensive considering what you get. There is very little difference between thes and the Sony DJ700's. Except the Sony's are a bit more bassy, while these are more accurate.

They are open-air design (very nice) so the have a more expansive sound, and aren't "tinny" in the least. And also very important, they are EXTREMELY comfortable! I can wear them ALL DAY (and I have many times!). The sit perfectly on my head, and after a short period of time I forget they are there. I highly reccomend these.(...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds good to me..., April 23, 2001

These are very comfortable to wear for long periods, unlike the Koss headphones that I just replaced. One thing that I like about them is that the cord is not coiled, so it's not constantly catching on things. The sound compares very favorably to my only other pair of headphones (high quality Sony ear-buds), but compared to computer speakers with a sub-woofer, I don't hear the full impact of the bass from either pair of headphones. I think that's just an effect of the sub-woofer, though. The sound is very well balanced. Overall I'm very pleased with the comfort and sound of these headphones.

Great product. I ordered it on Febuary 6th and got it the 12th. But beyond from fast free shipping the actual product is amazing. I'm hearing things in my CD that I haven't heard before. The trebble is increadibly strong. But the base is great I have a CD that goes into a really deep base and usually my speakers start to break up, and Ive blown 3 speakers listening to it. But with this pair of headphones it never breaks up even with the base boost in my machine. absolutly increadible.
