Panasonic's five-disc SC-AK58 mini home theater is a system well suited to home listening--and to making mixed tapes. Both cassette decks have auto reverse and a nine-track tape program sensor. The programmable CD changer offers separate drawer-open/disc-play keys for each of its five trays. And, the CD Manager lets you program a single track or select a range of songs from any number of discs.

For tone adjustments, the unit's 3-D space equalizer offers six preset moods: disco, hall, live, heavy, clear, and soft.

With a magnetically shielded three-speaker system and total system power of 260 watts in Dolby Pro Logic mode, you can also use the Panasonic SC-AK58 as a home theater. (Many VHS videocassettes and TV programs are encoded with four-channel Dolby Pro Logic surround; the monaural surround channel is routed in the SC-AK58 to both rear channels.)

The speakers feature ring-shaped, domed tweeters and a 6.75-inch woofer for shelf-shaking bass. Normal operation provides 100 watts per channel and less than 1 percent total harmonic distortion.

The SC-AK58's features include a programmable timer that can wake you up with your favorite song or play a selectable length of music as you fall asleep. The display screen provides system setting and playback information.

The unit comes with a wireless remote control and is Energy Star compliant, operating at 0.25 watts in standby mode.

A one-year warranty covers parts and labor.

This mini home theater system is the greatest invention in mini-system technology. It works as a regular stereo system, but then with a push of a button becomes a mini home theater system with a full 260 watts. It's crystal clear bass, and overall amazing sound, it's clearly the best choice for the price. Four way surround sound, full function remote control, different sound options, 5 cd changer, dual auto-reverse cassette decks with feather-touch controls... I can go on forever.

Very clear, crisp sound. Best buy for the money that's for sure. Didn't realize how powerful a system I was getting until I brought it home and plugged it in! Amazing! Only thing I don't like about it is you can't add a cd to the system without it stopping the one that is playing (if one is playing). Overall, great sysem, doesn't have the useless features that the JVC has (ie. the rolling in control section).

The system is compact, easy to put together, the sound is fantastic for all you audiophiles the balance and presets are great for each genre of music. The speakers put out a clear sound at even high decibels, and the surround sound feature is great, especially if you don't want to spend tons of money on a comparable system, with useless features you won't really ever use. The 5 disc CD changer is quick and a breeze to use and the two tape decks are great.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone in the market.
