With 280 watts total power--including 28 watts per channel for the stereo pair and 25 wpc for the surrounds (at 10 percent total harmonic distortion)--the SC-DK20 is ready to deliver movies and music with excitement and nuance. A three-step subwoofer level control on both the remote control and the main unit lets you tailor the bass level to your program material.
The DVD player's MP3 compatibility makes it easy to load the changer with more than 50 consecutive hours of near-CD-quality music. For movies, Panasonic's dialogue enhancer (coupled with the system's 44-watt powered center speaker) makes human voices more intelligible, a great feature for late-night viewing when you want to keep the sound low but still follow what's being said. A 10-bit, 27 MHz video digital-to-analog converter ensures clear, vivid images from discs.
What's in the Box

This is a very unique system. In addition to being a good bookshelf stereo system, it functions as a DVD player with a built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder. I wouldn't recommend making this your primary home theater device, but in a second smaller room it's terrific. Rear channels are crisp and clear, and my son loves watching his movies now. Subwoofer has decent rumble. As an added bonus, you get MP3 support. The MP3 support seems quite good; it took VBR and 320kb/s CBR files without a hitch, on both CD-R and CD-RW media. My only complaint is that if you have another digital source (like, say, a Playstation 2 or Xbox) you can't connect them up to get digital surround. You can, however, hook up an analog source (like a VCR) and get Dolby Pro-Logic, which is better than a poke in the eye. We've had it now for some time and it's had no issues. Highly recommended. --chris

My father bought this system last week.Wow. It's the best system on the market. You can listen your movie by believing you in movie. Dolby digital is excellent. 6 speakers (6.1) for a big total of 340 watts. The subwoofer put your house in an earthquake. The pp.mica woofer technology is excellente for reproduce a thunder sound with no distorsion. Many options (clear-vocal-soft and...) Movie equalizer and manual Eq who allows choosing type of your sound quality. The subwoofer switch is good for choosing the bass power (off-mid and max). PROS: Small unit and powerful sound CONS : The cd charger is slow and does a little noise and it takes a little time to see the type of Cd use. In spite of this small cons, this system is the best to listen the music and movie.

Don't Do It!!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Panasonic SC-DK20 5-DVD/CD Home Theater Mini System (Electronics)
This is a renamed and slightly tweaked SC-AK600 which has been around since 2002. Buyer beware: My AK600 conked out on me after two years of very gentle usage. Every time the unit powers on I get an F61 error message, which means a faulty or shorted out power supply. Panasonic wont fix it and they wont reply to any of my emails or correspondence. Check them out for yourselves with the Better Business Bureau - Panasonic has an "Unsatisfactory" rating based on excessive UNRESOLVED product quality and repair complaints. Also, do a google search on F61 errors with the AK600 and the SC-DK10 (2004's version of the AK600/DK20) and you'll see literally hundreds of complaints that their amplifiers blew out after about the same amount of time. They took mine and countless others' money for this garbage and now they wont stand behind their product when it is through their own fault that it is broken. Be forewarned...dont be fooled by the unit's look, sound quality and features, because underneath it is an old (from at least 2002), cheaply produced product sold at a high price and masquerading under a supposedly "reputable" brand name. Look elsewhere and avoid Panasonic's products.
