Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Transform your living room into a whole theater with the Panasonic SC-HT425D home theater system for 6.1-channel surround sound. The SC-HT425D combines a 5-disc progressive scan DVD player with a 6-speaker system--five satellites and one center channel--with a powered subwoofer for a powerful 600 watts of total power output. It also offers Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS, DTS ES, and DTS Neo:6 processing for amazingly clean surround sound. DTS Neo:6 takes lower quality recordings in matrixed stereo (such as analogue TV broadcasts or VHS video recordings) and generates five or six full-bandwidth channels of sound for 5.1 and 6.1 systems respectively. DTS-ES provides 6.1 discrete channels of sound--the 5.1 channels of standard DTS, plus a discrete, full-bandwidth "back surround" channel.

The 5-disc DVD player/changer is compatible with a wide range of disc formats, including DVD-Audio, DVD-RAM/R, and CD-R/RW, as well as HighMAT, JPEG, MP3 and WMA file formats. The incorporated High-Performance Media Access Technology (HighMAT) provides enhanced the method of storing, arranging and playing back personal digital photo, music and video collections on recordable discs such as CD-RW media. Other features include disc exchange during playback, cinema mode, 24-bit, 96 MHz DAC (digital to analog converter), playlist playback feature, and Depth Enhancer feature (for startling depth and true-to-life skin tones, as well as a soft, movie background focus). It also features an AM/FM tuner with 30 total presets (10 AM, 20 FM). It provides the following connections:

  • Composite Video In: 3
  • Composite Video Out: 1
  • S-Video In: 3
  • S-Video Out: 1
  • Component Video In: 2
  • Component Video Out: 1
  • Headphone: 1

MODEL- SC-HT405D-S VENDOR- PANASONIC CONSUMER ELECTRONICS FEATURES- DVD Home Theater Sound System- Silver finish SA-HE75 Home Theater Receiver with Built-in Dolby Digital/ DTS Decoder DVD-F65 Progressive Scan 5-Disc DVD Changer and SB-TP20 Speaker package. -- SAHE75 HOME THEATER RECEIVER FEATURES --* Built-in Dolby Digital/DTS-ES Decoder Modern audio/video formats such as CDs DVDs and laserdiscs often utilize Dolby Digital or DTS discrete digital multi-channel surround sound formats. With these formats each of the five main sound channels (front left center front right surround right surround left) can cover the entire frequency spectrum from 20Hz to 20kHz. A separate low frequency effects (LFE) channel is devoted to bass effects bringing the total to six channels (although this arrangement is often referred to as 5.1 channel surround sound). All of our standalone receivers are equipped with Dolby Digital and DTS decoders that let you experience the 5.1 channel digital soundtrack encoded on a DVD or laserdisc producing a remarkably natural sense of ambience and dynamic realism. Select receivers can also reproduce the latest surround sound advancement from DTS: DTS-ES. This new surround technology incorporates a rear center channel to further add to the realism and accuracy of home theater. * Dolby Surround Pro Logic II An improvement that not only decodes sources recorded in Pro Logic but also simulates 5.1 channel surround sound using a 2-channel stereo source creating a spacious surround effect. * Home Theater Mode: equal high power output of 100W (1kHz 6 ohms 0.9% THD) per left/center/right/left surround/right surround channels. * Powerful stereo mode: 100W per channel (40Hz20kHz 6 ohms 0.9% THD). * MOS-FET Output Stage MOS-FET uses voltage control to achieve an outstanding high frequency response resulting in an incredibly dynamic range of audio. And with high input impedance it also keeps the driver stage electronically isolated from the output stage enablin...

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as described, October 20, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SC-HT425D 5-Disc Progressive Scan DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
Well I guess the other reviewer of this item never bothered to "read and research" himself. If you actually read through the panasonic site it will tell you on the scht425d listing that in order to get the full specs on the system you have to look up each individual component. This system comes with the dvd-f85 dvd player and the sa-xr25 receiver. So upon looking at the individual specs, lo and behold you do get a 5 disc changer with the dvd-f85. My other proof positive for this statement is that i ordered this product and it came exactly as described 5 disc changer and everything. After setting it all up I couldn't be happier with the sound quality and outstanding connectivity options that come with the slim sa-xr25 receiver. Another issue I came across while researching this product is the unclear depiction and description on how many speakers come with the system. It seemed like each site had a different number. Well I finally found out after unpacking it. The system comes with 5 satellite speakers 1 center channel speacker and a powered sub. One other thing I found out while shopping is that the scht425d is the number used for the black colored systems and scht425ds is for the silver. With all that being said the actual performance of this package is really great. You get one of panasonics top tier receivers and dvd players and a great speacker package all for about the same price as a HTIB with a single component with limited connectivity and power. I would definetely recommend this product with my only complaint being that no component wires were included instead this package ships with just cheesy composite wires.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great System, November 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SC-HT425D 5-Disc Progressive Scan DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I recently purchased this system and it comes with a progressive scan 5 disc dvd, 5 satellite speakers, center speaker and sub-woofer. I like the slim profile of both the dvd and receiver.I found the receiver to have plenty of hook-up options. The only thing I did not like is that I did need to buy s-video hook-ups and a video hook-up cord. The sound on this system is great. You get great surround sound out of what I thought would be to small of speakers. Not the case. This system has a universal remote which makes things easier and overall I am quite happy with this purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Check Your Digital Audio Input!, March 13, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SC-HT425D 5-Disc Progressive Scan DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I received my SC-HT425d for christmas, and have only been able to use it once. The optical digital audio input on the receiver (from the DVD player) malfunctioned. I dropped off my receiver at an authorized Panasonic repair center on January 12. They still have it. It turns out that the part that needs to be replaced is not available until MAY! In fact, the Panasonic rep told the repair technician that not many people use the digital audio connection, and there may be MANY defective units out there. There is a fibre-optic connector cable included in the box, try it out and see if your product is defective!
