The disc player is compatible with a range of optical digital media, from DVD-Video and high-resolution DVD-Audio to CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 CD, WMA CD, DVD-R, and DVD-RAM. Built-in DTS and Dolby Digital decoders deliver 5.1-channel sound from select DVDs and CDs, while Dolby Pro-Logic II generates 5.1-channel sound from any stereo (2-channel) source, whether movies, TV shows, or music.
DVD-Audio offers super high-fidelity (192 kHz/24-bit) sound. DVD-Audio discs provide multichannel and stereo sound, incredible storage capacity, and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs. Perfect for high-bandwidth DVD-Audio listening, the front speakers are capable of reproducing frequencies reaching up to 50 kHz--more than extra octave of harmonic sound not found on compact discs and not reproducible by most systems.
Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the SC-HT670 stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
The DVD/CD player offers high-speed, 10-second access from disc to disc and convenient direct-access keys to quickly choose the desired CD or DVD at the touch of a button. The unit also comes with a CD Mode function, which makes the system play only CDs, a feature that comes in handy during random CD play. Panasonic's Multi Double Re-Master Processing enhances stereo CD, MP3, or WMA tracks to give them better sound.
The system decodes High Definition Compatible Digital (HDCD) media, too. HDCD is an encoding/decoding technology that enhances the sound of CDs and DVDs. Conventional CDs are recorded using a 16-bit signal; HDCD works 20-bit information into the 16-bit data, resulting in a wider dynamic range and a richer sound when heard through an HDCD-compatible player.
The SC-HT670 also features HighMAT (High Performance Media Technology) level 2 compatibility. HighMAT standards provide a convenient way for you to create custom compilations of your digital media, and compatibility means you'll be able to efficiently organize your HighMAT-generated files.
Other features include a large, easy to read fluorescent display, a universal remote control, a digital-synthesized FM/AM tuner, and a sleek, half-mirror/half-matte finish to match the design of many Panasonic displays.
What's in the Box
DVD changer, 5 satellite speakers, 1 passive subwoofer, and all requisite basic cabling.

Great sound....lack of ability to use it!,

This review is from: Panasonic SC-HT670 5-Disc DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I recently purchased this unit from a local retail store. After getting it home and setting it up i turned on the built-in radio first. It sounded pretty good...nice bass and treble...good sterio 2 channel sound. Next I tried a dvd (minority report) and was amazed by the life-like surround sound. Next i wanted to try my xbox and digital cable. This is where things started to go wrong. The Panasonic SC-HT670 as no digital optical inputs (required for Dolby surround from the xbox and my cable box). As I investigated this further, i also found that this Panasonic unit has no coxial digital inputs for dolby or dts sound either. In fact, it has no digital inputs at all!!!!!!!! So I can't get digital quality (dolby or dts) sound from my xbox, cable box, or any other device i own. Dolby surround is only possible from the built-in dvd play that comes with the unit.
In conclusion, spend a little bit more money and get a system with digital inputs that will work with your other a/v components.

I recently bought this system and have no complaints except for the lack of a 5.1 optical input plug.
It only has RCA (red & white) input plugs. 3 pairs of them so that you can connect a VCR, Game system #1, and Game system #2. The sound is very good because the system has its own sound processor with multiple options such as Hall, Party, Soft, etc. It also has a zoom option of 6 different sizes. So you can reduce the black lines on widescreen formatted movies. It is important to note that some more expensive home theater systems made by other companies, do not have any zoom feature. Even some Sony models do not have zoom. A Tip for great picture = In the display menu, there is an option called "ANIMATION" and it gives very sharp life-like picture to regular movies.

I went and bought this home system from Wal-Mart today for a price of $317 and change after taxes and had it set up at home in about an hour. At first it would only play sound out of the speakers while playing DVDs, Cd's or listening to the radio. I had to go back to Wal-Mart to buy a extra audio cable to get sound out of the speakers when watching normal TV. But believe me it is worth it. The sound is great when playing DVDs or watching TV. The radio feature is also an awesome feature. You can hit the radio button when a commercial comes on and listen to your favorite radio station then when the show comes back on just hit the TV button. It holds 5 DVDs which is very useful when watching shows like The Dukes Of Hazzard on DVD. Just put all 3 disks in and sit back and enjoy. The display is very nice to look at. It took some reading the instruction book to understand everything the remote does but I can now control my TV and VCR along with the console that comes with the system. The only thing I don't like about the remote is I can not find a button that is channel recall where you can and go back and forth between 2 channels with the push of one button. I keep my pictures that I take from my digital camera on a CD and you can put in the CD with pictures in the DVD player and look at them on your TV. It comes with plenty of feet of speaker wire to put your speakers just about where ever you want them. It also looks very good. You can adjust the volume on the center, left, right, and sub speakers which is a nice touch. If you like to have friends or family over to watch movies this system is a very good one to get, they will be impressed. I have an X-box and if you have the unit turned on to TV you will hear the sound through the speakers. There is quite a bit of stuff to the system so buy yourself one and enjoy.
