This Panasonic system was an upgrade from a cheap 300 dollar Sony system I had. This system is pretty good overall. The rear speakers sound great, as well as the tall boy speakers. This review is from: Panasonic SC-HT920 5-Disc DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
This Panasonic system was an upgrade from a cheap 300 dollar Sony system I had. This system is pretty good overall. The rear speakers sound great, as well as the tall boy speakers. They really do give you great loud theater sound, and the subwoofer really does it justice. It's pretty big for a home theater in a box system, and with your remote it's easy to adjust the volume for the subwoofer, along with four preset subwoofer levels to accomadate those using this in a small bedroom with neighbors, or for those of you using this in your home living room. The only real issue I might warn about this system is the center channel, which has some bad peak noises from time to time. It doesn't happen with most of your movies unless it's one that has been mixed wrong, but I notice with certain TV shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer, the vocal audio sometimes has a slight hiss at the top of some high or really low pitches. Some other systems you would still notice it with these DVD's, but not as much. Some systems you hear that noise more than others, and this one it seems to be a little more noticeable than some. But overall, this system has the ability to be very loud and envelope you in sound. For 500 dollars it's a great buy, although I do hear a lot of people prefer the Onkyo for the same price, but I don't prefer at this time to have a rear center channel. This is a great set for 500 dollars and if you're not willing to spend money for a system of $1000+, than this is a good setup.

Moving away from the sound quality, this has a reciever and 5 dvd disc changer all in one. Some people warn about heat caused by the reciever on your DVD's, but I've experienced no problem of over heating at all. Don't even worry about it. The DVD changer is high speed and you can change discs by remote within seconds.

All in all as I've said, you get your moneys worth with this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Powerful, Great Value and Performance, January 7, 2005
This review is from: Panasonic SC-HT920 5-Disc DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I just received this theater system yesterday and it is wonderful. I found it very easy to setup, the directions are very easy to follow and understand even if you aren't electronically inclined. Plus the manual isn't a 100 page book you have to read to learn how to run the system.

I love the design of the system also. Panasonic made the DVD 5 disc changer look really cool by making the front of it look like a mirror. Also around the volume knob, it glows with blue light when you turn the system on. The speakers are silver and have a nice design. The tall (long) speakers are the front speakers and the smaller ones go in the back of the room. The nice thing is that all the speakers are capable of hanging on the wall. Also, poles that are attached to the tall front speakers (as shown in the picture) can be used for the back speakers instead if you like. So there are options with this system.

The performance of the system is amazing and at the price I got it for, you CAN"T go wrong. The DVD player is quick when changing discs and quiet. There are also a lot of setup options. You can ajust the subwoofer level from the remote, many different picture views, sound settings for cd's, and speaker adjustments to name a few. Also, there are tons of inputs for you extra devices. I have the VCR and 3 game systems hooked up to it. I also liked the fact that it had the option for component cable hook ups for the TV. I bought some of those cables last night and the picture does look better. I love the subwoofer. It's pretty hefty but definately worth it. There are 4 different bass levels you can set it on and it is POWERFUL. I put in The Chronicles of Riddick and it shook the floor and my cat hid for the rest of the night. You have to be careful though. I live in an apartment and the bass can be heard clearly and heavily outside the apartment and I didn't have the volume up very loud at all. But with the subwoofer adjustment, you can find a setting that works best for you.

I suggest this product for everyone. It works so great and it's such a good value for the money that I'm telling all my friends about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice sound, July 13, 2006
This review is from: Panasonic SC-HT920 5-Disc DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I have owned this product for over a year now, and use it on a regular basis. I like the sound, and had no problems with the DVD player. As a matter of fact, the floor where this unit is kept was flooded with about three inches of water. The subwoofer was sitting directly on the floor, in the water, and nothing happened to it. Luckily, the DVD player was a fraction of an inch above the water line. Nice product for the money. You can vibrate an average size house when you turn the volume up.

After a little over a year of use a circuit board, on this HT-920 home theater system, developed a small crack resulting in intermittent sound. This was the diagnosis of one of their certified repair centers. This system sat in the same place the whole time and was not moved. The repair center communicated it was a know issue with the poor design, with the external speaker connector being part of the board. This was not in warranty period and the replacement part is no longer available. The repair center thought Panasonic would replace subwoofer at no charge as they said Panasonic is aware of the issue and the new sub design has changed as a result. Did not happen. This is the second instance in the last 5 years where I've had an issue with a Panasonic home theater system and a know design issue. The other was with the HT-900 where a Panasonic engineer admitted the defect and they did replace that system.

I also own a Boston acoustics (9 years) and Aiwa (15 years) with no issues. To Panasonic's credit I am very please with the 7 year old TV I own. I will not buy another home theater sound system from them and will think twice about purchasing other Panasonic products. This is unfortunate as I'm in the market for 2 LCD or Plasma 42" TVs and I've read allot of good thing about their plasma and LCD TVs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Panasonic SC-HT930, January 18, 2006
This review is from: Panasonic SC-HT920 5-Disc DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I bought a Panasonic SC-HT930 home theater system online from Dell. I thought the sound quality was great. But within about three weeks it jammed up. There were two CDs inside and the drawer would not open. Every time I turned it on it immediately gave an error code and turned itself off. I called Dell and they refused to help saying it had been more than twenty-one days from invoice. When I called Panasonic they referred me to an authorized service center in my area. I called after one week and was told the optical pickup needed to be replaced and that it was on order and would be in the following week. I called again after one more week and was told the part is on backorder with Panasonic and won't be in for at least one more week. I feel I made a huge mistake ordering from Dell since they won't stand behind products they sell that don't have the Dell name on them. I will also think twice about buying Panasonic products in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars This works great for my requirement, September 9, 2004
This review is from: Panasonic SC-HT920 5-Disc DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I could not use it to the fullest potential as I live in a apartment. I like it till now, I have flat screen TV never faced any problem as they described in other reviews for plasma tv's.

I like the look of it too, the tall boy speakers look great.
I paid 410$ and I am expecting 50$ back(360$). I feel it is worth the money.

I rate it 5 stars from experience.

We have had this system for over four years now, and couldn't be happier with it's performance. The combination of tower speakers, surrounds and subwoofer deliver great sound quality for both Movies and Music. We had gotten a four year extended warranty, but never ended up needing it, as the system has worked flawlessly so far (touch wood).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, September 8, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic SC-HT920 5-Disc DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I've had this new since 2004 and I have never had any problem. Sound quality is great, design wonderful and works well with my Toshiba rear projection tv. I love it's slim design much more than the other Panasonic units that came after it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lessons learned, October 12, 2006

Well, we've owned this system for over a year now. I was a little disappointed in sound quality and picture quality right out of the box. After playing with the settings, I was able to get some improvement but still not completely satisfied. We still have problems with the dynamic range as volumes go from quiet to loud and vice versa. Dialogue quality still falls somewhat short.

Now for the gripe! For the past 3 months the dvd player would go on the fritz. We would be comfy, watching a movie when all of a sudden, the dvd would stop and the player would turn off an on. The behaviour is sporadic and may happen right off the bat or after watching a movie and moving on to special dvd features. Must be a short circuit somewhere. Annoying as heck!

I'm not going to bother with repairing the thing. I'm moving on to bigger and better things.

Hope this helps!
