I received this as a Christmas gift and I have been very happy with it thus far. The sound is very good and will get louder than I would ever want to play it; all without any distortion. The controls are straight forward and easy to use as is the remote. The radio has great reception on both AM & FM.

It appears to be very well constructed which is what I have come to expect from Panasonic. They always do a good job at providing a quality product. I have electric razors, juicers, air purifiers and other items made by them and I am always happy with my purchases. I especially like the fact that it has soft footpads on the bottom of the main unit and speakers. This allows me to place it directly on my dresser without having to worry about it scuffing the finish.

Some have commented on the CD changer being noisy and I agree with this. It does seem to be a minor tradeoff but I do not know how they could make it more quiet and keep the price where it is. I was also suprised that there are no controls to adjust the bass & treble. Panasonic gets around this by providing several pre-selected sound modes. I find that they did a pretty good job at this and the auto-enhanced setting sounds just the way I would like it to.

Did a lot of research for this purchase. Was looking for a nice, featured - but not too expensive - unit for my home office. This 5-disk changer w/cassette unit was it.

Best attributes: very good sound, 140 watts, 5-disk capacity, tape capable (with search and timed record or play), MP3 compatible!, two-way speaker system, decent looks and good price (I paid $149).

Also liked the Sony HP7. That seems like a good alternative if the Panasonic SA-PM19 isn't available or to your liking.

I bought this unit a little over a year ago, and 1 month out of warranty, I started to have a problem with the CD playback skipping, just little bits at a time. It sounds a bit like a squeak and a dropped word or phrase during playback, and it happens pretty frequently (at least a couple of times a minute). It gets extrememly annoying if you care to listen to the music in any way.

I took it in to be repaired, because I had loved this unit's performance up until this problem.

The repair shop replaced the laser a couple of times, and they also cleaned it out thoroughly. When that didn't work, upon Panasonic's recommendation, they replaced the entire CD playing unit. Still not fixed. Upon hearing this, the repair shop told me that Panasonic had admitted having lots of problems with this unit and similar ones, which were somtimes repairable and sometimes not.

It seems a case where the manufacturer knows that the unit is problematic but doesn't want to stand too tall behind the workmanship.

Caveat emptor, indeed.

I searched high and low for 2 months finding the right microsystem for my office and this is it. This unit has surprisingly nice sound with superb clarity. The eq settings are very useful in lowering the bass so you dont have thumping bass coming from your office. Also offers manual Bass/Treble adjustments. A real plus is that the system reads MP3 ID3 Tags and scrolls the album/song title for MP3-CDs. Plays all ranges of MP3 quality beautifully.

I'm no pro regarding electronics, so this review is for other amateurs like me. I'm really pleased with this purchase. This little unit has a big, rich sound that fills up my large office. It has lots of features, which aren't too tough to figure out. When I ordered the unit, I didn't even realize it plays MP3 files directly, which means you can put more than 200 songs on a CD. The remote works nicely, even at an angle to the unit.

Fully concur with other reviewers... great sound, great features and great price. However, I was most surprised to find that the unit is almost 15 inches deep. (Should have read the specs because the picture doesn't reveal this.) If you're planning to locate the unit on a book case or a hall table, it will stick out like a sore thumb.

The Panasonic SC-PM19S is an outstanding compact stereo at an unbeatable price. Setup is easy and the remote control is logical and simple to use, although I wish the buttons were a bit larger. I listen to mostly classical music and opera in my home office and the sound quality from this little system is impressive! I'm amazed to find that I'm beginning to prefer it over my much larger and considerably more expensive stereo setup in my living room.

The system packs in a lot of useful features. One I particularly like is the ability to do audio cassette timer recordings from the AM or FM tuner. I rarely use audio cassettes anymore, but I'll use this feature to record some weekly radio programs on NPR that I often miss for one reason or another.

A previous reviewer stated that this system has no separate bass or treble controls. Not true! See the owner's manual to learn how to set these using the remote.

All in all, this system gets five stars and two big thumbs up for appearance, logical design, useful features, and above all, truly wonderful rich sound quality.

My last stereo was horrible, so this is a big step up. (You had to hit the speakers to make them work.) This stereo, however is just perfect! Surprisingly great sound quality for such a small system, and it's easy to use! Aswell as good quality, the Panasonic SC-PM19S 5-CD Shelf System (Silver) looks quite stylish. (I personally don't like big, bulky systems.) It is a must-get, and surpasses everything in my opinion when it comes to comparing price and sound quality/looks.

And this was not due to rough handling or anything - it was just sitting on the shelf it had been on all along, playing music at a holiday party I was having only several months after I purchased it and the sound just stopped. I tried several times to get it going again and it would always stop playing (even though the CD was still running) after a couple of minutes. When I can get it to play, it skips alot. Yes, it had great sound when it worked for such a little player, but what's the point when it so rarely plays? I would recommend making another selection.

I recently purchased the system, based on other recommendations found on Amazon.com. I have not been disappointed. This little system fits well on the top of my shelf. The wires shipped with the system are long enough to split the speakers and place them 5 feet apart, which creates an awesome effect. It plays MP3s with hundreds of songs on each CD. The display scrolls the names of the songs, etc. Overall - excellent quality for a good price.
