Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Panasonic's SC-PM29 executive microsystem offers style and power, pumping 70 watts per channel from its sleek, black-and-silver casing. The SC-PM29 includes a single-well cassette recorder and a five-CD changer with Panasonic's exclusive MASH (multi-stage noise shaping technology) 1-bit digital-to-analog converter for clear, accurate sound reproduction. And the system plays not only prerecorded CDs but home-brewed CD-Rs and CD-RWs filled with MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) files.

The quick and quiet disc-changing system swaps CDs in as little as four seconds, so your next listening selection is never more than a few seconds away. Listening in random-play mode helps present tracks from different discs more seamlessly than other changers are able to. A feature called Compression Digital Re-Master Processing compensates for the high harmonic frequencies lost through the MP3 and WMA compression, resulting in more natural-sounding music. In some cases, standard CDs and other sources will also benefit from this processing.

To ensure powerful, clear, and virtually distortion-free audio, the system features a bi-amplified, biwired configuration, which splits the amplifier's labor to independently power each speaker driver for more efficient power usage. Super Sound EQ boosts the low, medium, and high frequencies at the touch of a button for a dynamic boost in sound without complicated EQ adjustments, while four preset equalizer curves are also included.

Other features include a drift-free, digital-synthesized tuner with 30-station (15 FM, 15 AM) presets, TPS (Tape Program Sensor, which lets you search forward or backward across up to nine cassette songs), detachable speaker grilles (in case you prefer the look of naked tweeters and woofers), and a multifunction remote control.

This review is from: Panasonic SC-PM29 5-CD Shelf System (Electronics)
Overall a good system, but not great. The speakers and sound are very good. Especially for mp3s, the sound is better than normal. It combines a tape player, cd/mp3 player, and radio into one unit. It also has 4 lines of display. The unit looks cool too.

There are several drawbacks though. The unit is very deep because it has the five cd changer and finding a place to put it may not always be easy.

The other major drawback is that it is very difficult to do simple tasks such as shuffle play or other play modes. I use it most to play mp3s but it just plays the songs in the order they were burned. You cannot surf around either, so finding a song is nearly impossible. That is the biggest problem with the system. If you are organized enough though, its not a major problem.

Still once you have something playing its a great system.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good features, but sound lacks high frequences, July 30, 2004
This review is from: Panasonic SC-PM29 5-CD Shelf System (Electronics)
Pros:
Very deep & clear bass
Support for MP3 and WMA (HighMAT audio)
Big display with 5 rows to display file names and other info
Modern look
AUX input (good to connect to DVD player, for example)

Cons:
Sound lacks high frequences even on maximum EQ settings
No support for ID3 tags in MP3 files
No support for playlists for MP3 (I think HighMAT does support playlists)
No random play for MP3/WMA files

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice product, May 7, 2005
This review is from: Panasonic SC-PM29 5-CD Shelf System (Electronics)
I wanted a way to play all my cassettes, a way that took up not too much space and that provided good sound. Those requirements were met. My two unmet wishes are that the system does not play both sides of the tapes and that there is no way to keep the time on permanent display. I have learned to find the clock "buttons" on the remote control in the dark but cannot turn a tape over without turning on the light. This unit is substituting for my Bose Wave radio in my bedroom. Nothing can match the outstanding layout of Bose's controls, so I'm making myself satisfied because of this product's good sound, many desirable radio features, CD use when I desire, and most important, its capability to play cassettes since they will soon be extinct.
