4.0 out of 5 stars Can't Beat The Price!
I received this HTIB system last week and it's been awesome. Before I go into detail, let me first say that I'm not an audiophile. But I do disdain buzzing of any kind, inaudible dialogue, and low bass. Also, my setup with this system is a Samsung LCD flat panel, cable HD, an Oppo DVD player, and Wii.

First the Cons: Has barely any inputs. Before this system,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good product...
The system works great but isn't as wireless as it leads you to believe... had to get into the attic to hide the wires for the background speakers - So while it's a "wireless kit" for the rear speakers they are wireless from the main system but have their own reciever that they are wired to wherever you chose to set them up. We were hoping to find a product to avoid...

Before this system, I had everything connected to my TV. The cable box, DVD player, and Wii were all connected to my TV. Because this system only has a few audio inputs and I wanted to use my superior Oppo DVD player over the Panasonic receiver's, I kept everything the same and used the Digital Optical connection to connect the receiver to my Oppo DVD player. I knew that I only wanted to use the system for DVD's, so it means that I can't listen to my cable shows or Wii games in surround sound. And I haven't tested out the DVD player. If I wasn't lazy, I could change it up a bit, but I'll leave it the way it is for now. So the bad thing about this system is that this unit is lacking a bunch of inputs. It only has audio inputs and no visual inputs. So if you use component cables, you will have to lead the video wire to the TV and two audio wires to the receiver. Perhaps I'll do that later.

The second Con is that the two back "wireless" speakers aren't entirely wireless. Like some other wireless systems, the back speakers are wireless between the speakers and receiver, but the two speakers need to be wired and powered to a wireless receiver that needs to be powered by an outlet. I half expected this since I know other systems have this feature and with my setup, I don't mind the wires.

Third Con: The bass only has four levels of volume: off, and levels 1-3. I live in a NYC apartment and I'm sure my downstairs neighbors aren't appreciating this new purchase.

Pros: This thing comes at an excellent price! Yes, it's extremely bare bones, but man...you can't beat the price with everything you get here. I did months of research and had settled on purchasing the Onkyo 605 with Polk speakers which may have cost over $600. But I saved a ton of money by getting this system. Yes, this system is not future proof with new sound technology coming out every year, but man it was worth it.

It took me less than an hour to put everything together (the stands and wiring). The speakers are relatively thin (the bass is huge, but it doesn't bother me).

Lastly, the system sounds great! It's really powerful and there's no delay in the wireless back speakers. I tested the system by watching Armageddon, Batman Begins, and Transformers. Having asteroids and giant robots fly in from behind was simple bliss. Yes, I'm pretty sure there are much better systems out there. This system has limited options, inputs, and adjustments...but it still is a really good value for your buck. If you're on a low budget for a surround sound system, I really recommend this unit. And the ipod deck is simple. You just pull out the front panel and push in your ipod and you're connected. The bad thing is that you can't control your ipod once it's connected. I think the ipod has to be playing the playlist that you want before you connect it.

I can't stress this enough...it's not the best system out there, but it's cheap and the quality is good stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good starter system, May 26, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic SC-PT760 Deluxe 5 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
Like most people I did a lot of research before buying my system. One of the things Iliked about this system was the fact that I already had a Panasonic HDTV.

I have a large living room and was a little worried that the system may not be enough for it. I am not someone who likes to rattle the windows and shake the roof but I did want to get the full surround sound effect. This system does that. While the volume topped out at fifty when it got to the forty range each click up gave a decent rise in volume. I stopped at 43 and got a great sound level for what I wanted.

As for set up I got the system home and had it set up in under 30 minutes.

At first I was a bit worried as the rear speakers were a bit weak in the "test position" I placed them. After a little tweaking with the onscrean set up I boosted the rear speakers volume and soon got the effect I was looking for. Two days later I changed them to normal mode when I placed them in their normal higher position.

I then put in movies to try the system, Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Transformers, Top Gun and Gladiator. Transformers was the best for testing the system. I loved hearing the helicopter circle behind me then show up on screen as it hit the front speakers.

To keep it short and simple. I like the system and am very happy with it. Some things in the set up could have been better (see other reviews)but those problems are not big enough to say the system isn't worth the money. I have worked through all the options and have the system tweaked and am happy. The DVD's look nice and the T.V is run into the sytem with an optical cable so all my T.V. shows come through the system speakers.

You do need to think about where you will put the rear speaker power system. While the wires do not have to run from the main system they do have to run from the power/reciever box.

All in all a good system.

It offers great sound and relatively easy to set up (outside of the wiring).

I got this to go with my Samsung LN46550 since it's speakers are horrible for anything but dialog. I got everything hooked up and for the money I think this is a great little set up. The back 2 surround speakers are wireless so you can set them up where ever a power outlet is. There are different bass settings which is nice and the up converting capabilities are not bad but not great. I would recomend this system to anyone.

The only thing that I thought was strange is that it did not come with instructions, but thats not really a big deal since you can get them off the web.

This is my first surround sound unit, and it works well as an intro. I recommend picking up an Optical Fiber cable if you're going to hook up multiple systems like I did. The system itself only has one Optical input, and I previously had all of my systems (Cable, Wii, 360, PS3) running through the TV. But if your TV has an Optical Out, you can just use the cable to make the TV output through the speakers no matter which system you're using. The only problem I've run into is the PS3, which plays in surround for movies but not games for some reason.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easiest setup ever!, July 28, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic SC-PT760 Deluxe 5 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
Purchased the Panasonic SC-PT760 for use with my 42-inch LG Plasma tv. This LG model only had an "optical out" for the audio and the Panasonic was equiped with an optical input...and...I wanted something that would provide great sound for movies. I recieved my order in just 4 days (with free shpping)...and in a matter of minutes it was hooked up and working. Panasonic features an easy plug-type system for the speakers which took a novice like me only minutes to complete.
I've had this for several weeks and am totally satisfied...and the price was $75 to $100 less than anywhere else.

2.0 out of 5 stars good, solid audio system for a fairly low price...does not last, though, June 21, 2009
This review is from: Panasonic SC-PT760 Deluxe 5 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
Well, I have had this Panasonic home theater for about 6 months now and overall I am very happy with the device, especially in terms of connectivity and sound quality.
I'm going to start with the cons first:
- 5-DVD loading tray: although some people may find this feature useful (long movie marathon? varied music CDs?), I find it pretty much useless and more like a big hassle: the changing disc button in the remote is hard to find and even harder to use. It takes forever to load all the little, flimsy trays back in (be careful, they are really flimsy; I've read a few comments with complaints of broken trays) and you always have to remember (or guess) what was the number of the tray you just loaded your dvd into.
- lack of inputs: I guess the sole purpose of a home theater is just that: providing enhanced sound for video applications. That's what I needed and this unit does the job fine for me. With this system, you just get one HDMI connector, digital audio input, standard A/V connectors (in/out), and that's pretty much it. You will need to get an actual audio reciever to get more inputs/outputs, if you need them.
- "wireless" rear surround speakers: As many have already pointed out, the wireless unit for the rear speakers is only from the main unit. You still need to wire the actual speakers into the wireless unit. A big hassle in my case, due to my living room layout. In the end, I managed to do it.
Now the pros:
- Excellent sound: impressive for the price of this system. The subwoofer is very good, especially the "whisper-bass" option of the sub; it really allows to enjoy the bass and low tones of a movie, without shaking all the house in the process.
- Very attractive design: I guess is a matter of personnal opinion, but I think this unit is sleek, modern looking and just the perfect size. The speakers do not look bulky or heavy.
- Finally, the fact that is 100% compatible with my Panasonic plasma Viera 42", through the handy viera-link, which pretty much allows for using one remote only, and one button power on/off operation of both TV and home theater.
Overall, highly recommended for those looking for an affordable, good quality home theater, with basic connectivity and functions.

-Update (27-May-2010): Well, after less than 18 months of use, my home theather is done for. At least the DVD tray changer, which I believe is its Achilles heel (see all the 2 and 1 star reviews). The trays are now useless, so I can use it only as a stereo and sound system for my TV. This Panasonic system is definitely a dud.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value for the money...., November 27, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic SC-PT760 Deluxe 5 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
Out of the box and playing in no time. Not the system the salesperson takes you into the little room to hear but sufficient in an average sized room. Surround sound on movies was more than adequate, and dolby does it's job on our Cds. The multiple format readability is nice. Despite speaker's size volume is decent. All things considered a decent system for one's buck.

I haven't had any of the problems that other reviewers mentioned, so I'm enjoying good sound, a great upconverting DVD player, and the affordable price. However, I am experiencing a significant amount of hissing in the only rear the speakers. I've tried different outlets (none of them sharing with a florescent) and lowering the output on each, but the problem remains. Would a set of high-quality wires help? Any other tips?

The overall performance of this system was great, but the optical laser failed soon after the 1-year manufacturer's warranty expired. I'm getting it fixed under a credit card extended warranty program, but I've had to send the DVD unit off for a month to get the repair done. I find this level of reliability to be unacceptable.
