4.0 out of 5 stars SL-S361C has worked well in the car for me
I purchased this product about a month ago and have used it exclusivley in my car for my 45 min. commute to/from work. It has worked very well for me so far - good sound quality, no skipping with the AntiShock feature on, and no problems with the cassette adapter ( I drive a 98 Volvo ). I like the "Resume" feature that keeps track of what song the CD is on...

1.0 out of 5 stars Quality problems, October 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SL-S361C Car/Portable CD Player with Backlit LCD Display (Electronics)
I purchased this model and had to return it immediately. It would play for awhile for random amounts of time and then power down, especially when operated on the car adapter. It wouldn't always power up immediately afterward.

Sound quality when operating was OK.

Controls are a bit awkward/confusing and LCD display is hard to read under most outdoor lighting conditions.

I definitely recommend AGAINST this model based on my experience with it. I own several other Panasonic consumer products and have been very satisfied with them, so was very disappointed with the SL-S361C.

4.0 out of 5 stars cassette adaptor may not be at fault, October 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SL-S361C Car/Portable CD Player with Backlit LCD Display (Electronics)
Some cars cassette players are not compatible with most cassette adaptors because they see it as a broken tape. While there should be more information about this when you buy a portable cd player, it is not totally the fault of the player. I have heard that the cassette adaptor is incompatible with some saturns, and newer GM's. Hope this helps. I have been using Kenwood cassette adaptors for the past 2 years. While Kenwood's cd players are crap, and I have gone through 4 of them that I took back on warranty, I have never had a problem with any of the cassette adaptors.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke, Broke, Broke, October 18, 1999

I noticed that this happened to a few others... After one car ride the cassette adapter broke--kept ejecting incessantly--utterly annoying. I'm sure it's a decent player if I could ever hear it. Definitely not worth your hassle.

5.0 out of 5 stars HI-Quality portable CD player., August 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SL-S361C Car/Portable CD Player with Backlit LCD Display (Electronics)
I got the SL-S362C model of this cd player, which is basically the same as the S361C, it just has a little wireless remote. The remote is really tiny but it's worth the extra 20 bucks 'cuz I hook up the SL-S362C for the car and for my dorm. In the dorm I hook up the AC adapter and there's a cool green backlight that lites up the unit and makes the track number and time cool to look at. I connect the Cd player to my Bose Acostimass speakers and either the speakers or CD player kicks butt because the sound just blows you away . The unit looks pretty cool, has a nice metallic silver finish. It's not super thin but the CD player's size is compact. I take it wherever I go to listen to my tunes. with 40 seconds anti-shock II, it doesnt skip at all. Overall, I would go for Panasonic. I don't really like Aiwa products, and the Sony models didn't compare to Panasonic. A good solid value.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's better than ever! ,needs more than 5 stars!, January 18, 2000

This review is from: Panasonic SL-S361C Car/Portable CD Player with Backlit LCD Display (Electronics)
i have a Panasonic SL-S225 w/rechargeable batts, and it kinda bit the dust after 2 years of EXTREME use;running, dropping on alaskan frost, concrete, water abuse, etc. It still works, but for my b-day,Mom got me the New Panasonic SL-S361C,and it outshines the rest,by a mile! the S-XBS beats others because it amplifies the BASS,not just amplifying the backround noise like all the others, and it doesn't give too much bass. Panasonic, personally been the best brand for me,because I want products to perform beyond what is usually the norm.I have a Robyn cd thats 2 years old,'twas my first cd,but also my most scratched cd,but BOTH Panasonics haven't skipped a single beat. Mom's Sony can't hold a candle to Panasonic, because they don't have the X-BASS,Multi-stage noise shaping,MASH to others, and its more reliable. that said, anyone who wants to buy a quality cd player, should buy a Panasonic. 'NUFF SAID

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Performance!, January 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SL-S361C Car/Portable CD Player with Backlit LCD Display (Electronics)
This product is absolutely great, especially if you burn your own CD's. A lot of portable CD players often skip and go crazy when you play burned CD's, especially most Sony portable CD players often give incredibly depressing performance with regards to this issue, so try to avoid buying Sony if the music you'll listen to will come from CD-R's. But, for optimal sound, don't forget to use top-of-the-line CD-R's. I had this player (w/ the remote) for a couple of months now and it hasn't even skipped once, even with frequent and heavy use. That's incredible performance! I also like the bright green backlit display when you plug in the AC adaptor, and, well I haven't really tried it in my car since I already have a CD player that came from the manufacturer. To make a long story short, some of the people who gave this product a bad review probably got a lemon or just don't know how to use it. There are a lot of variables with respect to cassette adaptors in the car. Sometimes it may work hassle-free while sometimes it may not work so well. Therefore, the best thing to do is that if you're thinking about buying a new car, buy one w/ its own manufacturer CD player just to avoid such a conflict. Overall, the sound quality is spectacular, especially the xtra bass system, which is deeper than Sony's Digital Mega Bass, but slightly less than Sony's Groove (in other words, it's a perfect bass setting). There are also a lot of other options, such as the pop-up button to eject the disc from the plate (a feature that most Sony players DON'T have and it helps prevent the disc from being bent endlessly), Resume function, Hold Position function, heat-resistant polycarbonate body, battery status indicator (just like the one on a cell phone), and a whole lot of other stuff. I also like the fact that the player is made in Japan, so you know that you're getting pretty good labor and material quality. Headphones could use some improvement, though. To summarize, you're getting a pretty good deal w/ this player, so just buy it while it lasts!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cd player, good price, December 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SL-S361C Car/Portable CD Player with Backlit LCD Display (Electronics)
I see a lot of people has given a very low rating for this unit, I cant talk bad about it! I live where the roads are really damaged and the ASM-II works like a charm. The resume feature is great. Of course there are some bad units out there, like as in any other electronic gadget, you cant expect that all X-amount of units will be flawless. GET REAL! However, as in performance this unit has behaved excellent, from driving in a dust and dirt road with bumps on a 4x4 at 125 kph, with no skipping, playing Marillion with no skipping, from shorts in the car's electrical system (once)And it kept working ! I'll recommended to anyone !
