With just two AA batteries (not included), the SL-SX272C will provide up to 25 hours of playback time, slightly less when not using the antiskip protection. This feature is not only economical, but also , since it reduces battery consumption. Alternatively, you may power the player using the supplied 4.5V AC/DC adapter.
Other conveniences include a hold switch (which negates state changes during transport or listening), playback of recordable CD-R and CD-RW discs, 24-track programming, random play, repeat play (one track or an entire disc), resume, and XBS (Extra Bass System) to give your music added low-end heft. And, thanks to the player's heat-resistant polycarbonate body, you can use it outdoors with only minimal fear of damage.
What's in the Box
CD player, headphones, a wireless remote control, a remote battery, an adhesive hook-and-loop fastener for the remote, a car DC power adapter, a cassette-shell audio adapter, an AC/DC adapter, and a user's manual.

Not 4 the Car,
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX272C 40-Second Anti-Shock CD Player with Remote Control and Car Kit (Electronics)
I bought this with the primary intention of in car use. I was worried when I read the car kit instructions and it was noted that a "rotating sound" was "normal" with use of the car adapter. I have listened to other people's car adapted CD players and never heard such a thing; but as soon as I set mine up in the car I heard the rotating NOISE! Worse yet, the music volume was about a 1 or 2 on a ten scale. Had cleaned the cassette heads on the car and followed the instructions and still it sounded SO BAD that I was so frustrated I really wanted to through it out the window while doing 55. The only reason I can give it 2 stars is that I then tried it with batteries and the headphones and it worked. It didn't sound spectacular but it sounded good enough that I would use it if I wanted to walk around and listen to CD's.

A Great Little Player,

I bought a portable CD player 8 years ago, but stopped using it because it wasn't really portable. The Music would skip at the slightest vibration. The 40 second anti-shock memory solves this problem. You can shake this and shake it and it never skips at all. I take it everywhere. It fits into most of my larger pockets, but works best in a fanny pack. The one problem I have had is this occasionally pops open if the latch is nudged too hard. I would not recommend you carry this in a crowded backpack--the top might pop open and you'd lose your CD. But for everyday use, this is just what I wanted!

takes a beating and keeps on playing,

When I started looking for a portable CD player, I was inclined to look at sony's line. I've had many sony systems before, and they've always been good. But I read a review somewhere that said that panasonics were really much better for portable systems and they're usually cheaper. So I compared a few and picked this one. I've had it for almost three years now, and I am still impressed. It's been through a lot, including almost nine months of daily use since I moved to a city where my commute involves the subway. I used to use it in my car constantly, and never had a problem. For at least a year, it was my primary stero system, hooked up to some speakers and a subwoofer -- still got great sound. If you're looking for a sturdy, multi-purpose portable system, I highly recommend this. I once dropped it while riding my bike, dragged it behind me for fifteen feet and the thing never skipped OR STOPPED PLAYING! It's got some scratches now, but it still works perfectly. For the record, I will tell you the few flaws I think the system has: 1) while it has a hold function to keep you from accidentally hitting buttons or anything when it's in your backpack or bag (which I use daily and it works great), the actual lid of the player doesn't lock and i have found that it occasionally opens itself up by rubbing up against something in my bag. 2) it works great in a car, EXCEPT that when you turn the car on and off, it resets the disc and doesn't pick up where it left off, which some newer, car-designed systems do. but it does have a resume function where it will pick up on the last song that it was playing, not rest back to track 1. All in all, a great system for a good price.
