When I went looking for a new CD player after my old one quit I was looking at style instead of what I should have been looking at which was quality. Lucky for me I got an extremly good looking player that auctually performed it's function! 2.0 out of 5 stars Fair Personal Player at best
I sold my panasonic shockwave SLSW869V Shockwave to buy this more inexpensive player, but now I should have stuck with the better player. It's a fair cd player, but does not meet my needs. If you have a shockwave player already, I suggest you keep it. Below is a list of pros and cons. So here's my two cents. I hope this helps.

Pros:

-good sound quality (reflective of other panasonic cd players)

-decent design and appearance

-included jogger case

-good anti-shock memory

-cover opens nicely

Cons:

-no audio-out jack (standard on most portable cd players). An audio jack is designed to plug your discman into a stereo system, portable speakers, or your car. You will have to use the headphone jack, in which case fine-tuning the volume and bass controls is a hassle, and you will lose some quality as well.

-"train bass" feature is totally useless

-battery life not up to advertisement (i'm getting under <10 hours on 2 AA alkalines)

-not half as sturdy as shockwave models (don't drop it or get any water on it!)

-buttons are easy to press by accident (you'll use the HOLD button more often that not)

-remote is almost useless. First, you'll have to adjust 2 volume controls (one on the player and one on the remote). Second, if you want to use a decent pair of headphones (the included ones are crummy), you'll have to buy one that is designed for use with a remote control, which are hard to find (a short, straight plug instead of an L shaped one or long, straight one), otherwise the remote unit will be heavy, long, and intrusive.

-unit is NOT a slim model: at least 1.0-1.1 inches fat. About as thick as the panasonic shockwave SLSW869V and perhaps even thicker than other shockwave metal models. This is one reason I recommend the shockwave models, they are about as portable and a lot more usable. If a discman is bulky, why not make it at least more durable?

CONCLUSION: If you just want a CD player to play your CD's, and are on a limited budget, go for this panasonic player. If you ever intend to use your player to connect to external speakers, a stereo system, or your car, make sure the player has an audio-out jack. Panasonic shockwave models are your best bet for basic features, durability, and ease of use. If anti shock is all you want, there are better panasonic players out there.

Lucky for me I got an extremly good looking player that auctually performed it's function! I have heard other people say that it skips while your jogging but mine never does that and I also ride my mountain bike over some pretty nasty terrian and it has only skipped once when I forgot to turn on the anti shock. It's got really good battery life and the small design is handy too. You can even fit it in your pocket if your wearing baggy pants. Because of the price it is a bgood CD player for anyone! It has all the functions you could want on a $100 CD player including repeat, repeat all, shuffle, anti skip 40 second, EP memory and of course the hold button.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good player but doesn't work as advertised, May 22, 2000

If you're looking for a great portable CD-player, there's no reason why you shouldn't get this one. The styling is nice, the controls easy to use, the remote control is highly convienent and the sound is good. But the 40 second anti-shock function and the "jogger case" are useless if you're actually going to try jogging with this thing. I wasn't ten steps out the door before it started skipping like a broken record. I tried tightening the straps and closing the case as tightly and firmly as possible, and that worked wonders--until I got halfway down the block when it started skipping again. If you want a good player, go ahead, but don't expect miracles.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good CD player, but not loud enough, February 8, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX276J Portable CD Player with Jogger Case (Electronics)
I used this CD player for a couple of weeks, and almost everything about it is great. It seems well made, the battery life is excelent (I'm still on the first set of batteries), and the jog case is very effective.

However, the CD player is not very loud, even at max volume. When I go to the gym, I can clearly hear the television over the music from the cd player.

If you are going the listen to this cd player in a quiet environment, with no sounds around you, it's probably a good buy. Otherwise, I'd look elsewhere. I'm returning mine today.

This CD player is an excellent "jogger" model. It has NO skipping what so ever. I am not a jogger, although I have jogged with this player, but I ride my mountain bike over EXTREMELY rough terrain and the player never skips. It has an AWESOME battery life, and the remote control is great! Also, the pop-up disc eject is great.
