5.0 out of 5 stars Panasonic strikes again!
So far, I've been ecstatic with every Panasonic product I've bought. I purchased a DVD from them 2 years ago, and it's never skipped. Then, I bought a Panasonic VCR through Amazon. Once again, it's superior. When it came time to replace my old Sony portable cd player...naturally, I went to Panasonic, and to Amazon (the best brand at the best price). Not only does the...

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT for Joggers
This CD player is NOT for joggers. While I was walking at a fast pace, but not jogging, the CD player skipped for a second or two, which isn't too bad. As soon as I started running, it stopped playing, when I stopped running, it started playing again. It doesn't work when you are running!! Please, if you work out, don't get this player, go get the Sony Sport!!

Not only does the player not skip on my daily train ride, but it even played a butchered cd flawlessly. No other player has ever been able to do this. The 40 seconds of shock protection make it immaculate. Even the radio reception is awesome (to use an 80's word)! It's worth every penny--and believe me--it rare that I say things like that!!

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE BEST PORTABLE CD PLAYER AROUND, December 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX289V Jogger Model Portable CD Player (Electronics)
I Live In Johannesburg South Africa. I Am Going On A (26 Hour) Train Ride And Wanted A Portable CD Player That Had The Best Anti-Skip System At A Reasonable Price. I Bought It For R1000, Slightly More Expensive Than America, But It Was Worth It. I Hooked It Up To My R2500 Hifi System And The Radio Reception Is At Least 10 Times Better Than The Hifi's One, And The CD's Quality Is At Least 50 Times Better Than My Hifi's CD Sound Quality. The Remote Control That Came With It Is Absoultely Awesome. It Plays All My Home-Recorded CD's With No Problem, And The Best Part About It Is That Almost No Matter How Much You Test Its Anti-Skip System, It Will Never Skip. GUARANTEED. I Highly Recommend This Player To Anyone Who Wants A Good, Affordable, CD Player With Radio And Remote Control. (Or Anyone Who Wants A Portable CD Player, Because It Is The Best Out There)

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor CD Player, April 3, 2002
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX289V Jogger Model Portable CD Player (Electronics)
The Panasonic SLSX289V portable CD player is the poorest machinery I've ever experienced using. It easily malfunctions when you put in a CD recordable disc, and there is no anti-shock button on the CD player, to prevent it from skipping.

When I had to get this product fixed, Panasonic didn't do anything about it. Basically all that I got from this CD player, was a [$$$] AM/FM radio. What a waste of good money.

If you're looking for a good portable CD player with a radio, get the Aiwa XP-R220.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound!, December 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX289V Jogger Model Portable CD Player (Electronics)
We just bought this CD player for our 7 year old daughter, and the sound is incredible. Even through the ear phones. We also bought her some new speakers to hook the cd player into, and the whole set up is great. It is easy to set up, and light weight. We are very pleased with the product. The only drawback is that there is not an AC Adapter available as of this time... they are on backorder with the company until the middle of January. I imagine we'll be going through a lot of batteries until then! I researched these products quite extensively, and found that this one has all the features we wanted for our little girl... Now I wishI had one myself!

1.0 out of 5 stars I thought it was called the "Panasonic Jogger", July 5, 2002

Despite the product name, it is impossible to jog with this machine. For the first twenty minutes or so, it works reasonably well, with only a few skips every now and then. But after that, it gets worse and worse until by the end (I usually run for an hour) it stops 20 or 30 seconds for each second of music that it plays. It works just fine when I'm walking, but then, it's not called the "Panasonic Walker." I had frankly hoped for something better from Panasonic.

4.0 out of 5 stars great while it lasted, June 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX289V Jogger Model Portable CD Player (Electronics)
I really loved this cd player. It had everything a girl could want: resume play, a hold button, a puase button, great sound and it didn't skip. Unfortunatly however, less than 6 months after I bought it it dropped from a chair and broke in half and I couldn't fix it. So I really recommend this player but be sure to be careful w/ it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it - too fragile, May 5, 2002

My daughter purchased a Panasonic SL-SX289V. Within
a couple of weeks it was busted. It fell onto a
linoleum floor from a height of 2.5 ft and was ruined.
The hinge/latch mechanism was shattered.

A few bumps are inherent in the life of a portable
electronics gadget of any kind. Clearly Panasonic
didn't do their homework in designing their CD players.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!, January 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX289V Jogger Model Portable CD Player (Electronics)
This was a very good purchase on my part (if i do say so myself). This is a pretty good looking item and not expensive at all. I don't know very many technical terms so bear with me. I hit the thing and dropped it and it didn't skip at all. I love how it has a radio too because most discman's don't. The resume function is very nice because if you have to turn it off for a while but didn't get to finish listening to your cd then you can turn it back on and not have to skip through the cd to get to the place you stopped. The headphones are very sturdy and give great sound !This also has the random order function which is very nice because then you don't have to listen to the cd in the same order every time. The hold switch is great because when you carry it around you don't have to be careful where you put you hands. This thing is great and if you're looking for a great quality, afordable portable CD player then this is the one for you.
