Nice features but needs higher sound volume.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX390 Portable CD Player (Electronics)
This CD player has some very nice features, including great sound quality, but the sound volume should go higher. If this model's headphones would fit better, the ear pieces would stay closer to the ears which would partly compensate for the lack of volume produced. The headphones are all plastic (as most are these days), and these did not sit well on my normal-size male head. I tried a very good set of headphones with the unit but that did not improve the volume. Just to make sure I wasn't imagining the problem I tried my Walkman cassette player, and that had excellent volume.I liked several things about this Panasonic SX 390 CD player including the wired remote that comes with it, the controls layout, the ease of inserting and removing the CD. To be fair, I must say that other buyers of this model might not be as bothered as I was about the sound volume. In a non-noisy environment the volume would probably be fine. Over the years I have learned to bring home two or three such items to try and then keep one if satisfactory. But I bought only this Panasonic SX 390 on the basis of excellent reviews from different sources. And now I have to start all over.

Incredible CD Player at a Great Price w/ Little Flaws!,
By "notredamefan7588" (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX390 Portable CD Player (Electronics)
This is an excellent product. The sound quality is great! The price is great for a budget conscience tennager like myself. The remote is useful and easy to use. The controls are simple and I have yet to hear it skip during normal use. My first problem is the volume. It needs to be a little louder. If you don't need it to be superloud it's great. I can hear almost clearly while mowing the lawn. The headphones also were too small for my head. So I bought a nice pair of headphones for [money ammount] and no longer have any complaints about the volume. My final complaint is about the usefulness of the equalizer. It has several sound types and they all sound the same to me. I don't even use the button anymore. I would have liked to see a bass boost there. All in all, it is a great product and I recomend it to everyone!

I bought the SL-SX390 on the basis of the great reviews... and, yep, it worked reallllly well for a while. No skippage, great battery life, and great sound for the price!Except... it's a fragile little beast. Unlike the other CD players I've had in my day, this one's just not good with outdoor activities. It's not like I dropped it repeatedly - it's just fallen apart through everyday use. And so, five months later, I'm shopping for a new CD player because the little CD spinner is now slightly warped (how THAT happens from normal usage is beyond me.) I'd give this baby a 5 for battery power and anti-skip technology, a 4 for volume, and a negative three for lasting power. That's an average of two, gents!

Just not loud enough.,
By CJ (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX390 Portable CD Player (Electronics)
I dont like this walkman very much and am sorry I bought it mainly because the volume is not loud enough. When I go running, I want to hear the music, not strain to listen to every word/note. I have no idea how that guy in the review below can mow his lawn while listening to it. He must be Dumbo. When you are on a walk, the volume and sound quality is great. However, the controls are hard to locate sometimes because they are so small. The remote thing hanging off the headphones are more annoying than helpful. Also, it would be nice if these walkmans came with some kind of loop so you can hang it off your belt. This one doesn't. The good things about it are that the batteries seem to last a long time and the sound quality is pretty good.

Virtually Indestructable,
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX390 Portable CD Player (Electronics)
At first look, this might seem like your average CD player, with ordinary functions like extra bass, 48 second anti-skip and different play modes, but there's one VERY useful function that does a lot of good in the long run. INDESTRUCTABILITY. I don't think this CD player advertises its indestructability, but it's by far the best feature. Seriously, I've had it for 1 1/2 years, I use it every day, and occasionally it takes the nasty fall from the kitchen table onto the tile floor. But you know what? It never breaks. Not even a little bit.Very long battery life is another great thing about this CD player, and of course, it looks good too. The wire remote isn't all that useful, but it's a nice addition anyway. And of course, it plays CD-Rs, but what CD player these days doesn't! Anyone who needs a reliable CD player with a fairly cheap price tag should pick this one up.

Very reliable,
This review is from: Panasonic SL-SX390 Portable CD Player (Electronics)
I can find nothing bad to say about this Panasonic portable...it just works great. The sound quality is very good, and it never skips. I like the design and the remote control, as well. The headphones didn't work, but that's alright. Nice and cheap.

Medicore shock protection and terrible for people who like training to music. As an immobile player though it's great. I would rather suggest one of the Rio players since they have very good shock protection and are much stirdier.

mind you, this product is even better than the sony D-E30.,

Yes its true,i own a similar model and it works wonder.Over 40 hrs of playback it has and superb sound quality.it does not skip at all with the 48 sec anti-shock protection, which is automatically on.The sony D-E350 may be more popular but not as good as this.Sony D-E350 only has 33 hrs of playback time, with the ESP and megabass on, the playtime would be 30hrs,that's a difference by 10 whole hours!!.This panasonic player is also a whole lot smaller than the sony D-E350 which is long.I truly recomend this product instead of the Sony D-E350.
