5.0 out of 5 stars Panasonic ROCKS!
This CD player is wonderful. It never skips (unless you like to pound it with a sledge hammer!) due to the Anti-skip Memory II, the head phones sound great and are very comfortable, and the design is awesome. Some reviewers complained that the voices sounded fine, but the music didn't; that's true only if you don't push the head phones all of the way in. If you do...

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Battery Info
One reason I bought this CD was because of the rechareable battery feature. What they don't tell you is in plain English is that you need special Ni-Cd batteries. It took me four stores and $20 dollors later to find them. I bought the Radio Shack brand. I put them in and naturally, they don't work. After a call to Panasonic, I find out you have to use only...

If you do this, then it sounds great. Another thing that is quite cool about this is that if you use re-chargable batteries, then you can re-charge them with the CD player. It comes with a plug-in that allows you to re-charge your batteries while still in the player! Another thing that come with it is a belt with a spot for the CD player. Excellent for when you go jogging, walking, or biking! It never skips! There is only one flaw that I have found though; the display isn't the easiest thing to read...But overall, this is an awesome portable CD player. It's is great for joggers, people who accidently drop/abuse their electronics (the clumsy ones...like myself), and anyone in need of a top notch CD player! You're going to love it! Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Belt needs work, but CD Player is top notch!, November 9, 1999
By A Customer

I agree with the sentiments on the neoprene belt...mine is splitting after 2 months of daily 3 mile jogs. However, I can count on one hand the number of times it has skipped, and these were scratched CD's. Great quality player, and the headphones are comfy, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome, October 19, 1999

Panasonic is the leader in futuristic electronics. The Panasonic Shockwave CD Player represents the future standard for portable digital audio. The unit has excellent anti-skip technology. The 40 second anti-skip buffer is more than enough to absorb any pounding you can give it. I use mine on the road, in the car, running, you name it. ***NO SKIPS***. Also the unit is made with a super strong poly-carbonate body so it can also withstand lots of tough environments including heat. The sound quality is excellent and the XBS bass boost gives your music more muscle. The headphones included sound great and have a deep pounding bass. You even get an AC adapter (purrrfect!!!). Its loaded with neat features including Program Play, Random, Resume, a built in battery charger -NEAT!!!-, you can even turn off the futuristic anti-skip technology and save battery power if you wish. This is the CD Player I only used to dream of. Now its here. If don't have a Panasonic Shockwave CD Player, you need one.

It took me four stores and $20 dollors later to find them. I bought the Radio Shack brand. I put them in and naturally, they don't work. After a call to Panasonic, I find out you have to use only Panasonic brand Ni-CD batteries which are available in about 10 stores nationwide. You have to order them through Panasonic for an additional $13. Buy another brand that is designed with the consumer in mind and parts that are widely available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Panasonic have the best cd players, May 26, 2000

Simon Said (Montreal, Canananananada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Panasonic SLSW505J Portable CD Player (Electronics)
This is one of the best cd players out there in the market, but flaws always come with products. Flaw#1 : After my friend used it every day for eught months, it just would not play copied cd's anymore. Mine is starting to skip a bit, but it's probably the cd. Flaw#2 : I was hesitating before buying it. It's bigger than the other cd players and more heavier... I compared in stores and the retailer said that it had a solid design, so when you'll drop it, it still plays smoothly. Flaw#3 : It's old. Flaw#4 : It's still expensive, but in Canada, it's cheaper(with the exchange rate of course)! Flaw#5 : I don't trust companies telling me how many hours it could play with only a pair of batteries(they proved it when tehy played it on a table at a temperature and using the best batteries).

What I liked about it was... -To be able to recharge batteries with it... but you couldn't be using it at the same time. -It doesn't skip, just trust me on this one. Jogging with it wasn't a problem for me. -When it gets extremely hot, cd players are not supposed to be out in the sun for even a few minutes, but this one has more protection, just don't try it outside, please. The heat will deform some parts of all cd players, so don't expose it too much in the sun.

I suggest it if you go jogging or travel a lot very often. From what I've seen, this is the most popular.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection at its best!!!, September 16, 2000
This review is from: Panasonic SLSW505J Portable CD Player (Electronics)
When I recieved my portable cd player I couldnt wait to try it out. I listen to the sound quality it was crisp and clear. It didnt even skip when i shook it very hard. I went jogging with it and I forgot I had the headphones on they were so light. I am always showing off my new cd player and everyone loves it. Batteries were a concern for me but it has a built in battery charger! Another thing, I didnt find the display hard to read. And after a minute I just memorized were the buttons were. Its not that hard to figure out. It does have nice quality. Its not one of those cd players you have to be careful about that are flimsy. This is very sturdy. I think its a wonderful cd player.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Sound but Not So Good Belt, April 18, 2000
By
This review is from: Panasonic SLSW505J Portable CD Player (Electronics)
Although the sound from this player is very good, the sport belt is really poor quality. I have used it only five or six times, and already the belt is beginning to tear. It also doesn't stay tight when you are using it, so I have to stop two or three times during my run to re-tighten it. As far as the anti-skipping protection, I have found that it skips about three or four times during my run, and I'm not a very hard runner. Overall, I'd say its just ok. I really thought it would skip a lot less than it does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine Product!, July 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SLSW505J Portable CD Player (Electronics)
I am impressed by the sound fidelity of panasonic S-SW 505 CD player. Gingerly opening the pack, I found the instructions and the complex facilities were more than I had asked for! Especially the bass setup with XBS, added beauty to percussion instruments.

I did not however care about the neoprene bag which came with a duct-tape tied obtusely around it to hold it and the belt together. It looks so odd to send a fine product along with such an ugly wrapping for an accessory.

But as of the CD player(with an AC adapter with more than 4.5 ft cable, perfect when the battery is low), is great. The screen-display looks like a passive matrix computer screen , and is clear only for small viewing angle. With 3 power sources(AA cells, AC power, and rechargable battery), and a light weight, this CD player has ideas aplenty

Regarding aesthetics, nothing sazzy; while the appearance is made pleasing with the yellow/black front panel. The lock-doors give a measure of security, while it is playing(in case it were to go upside down!). The headphones are great and comfy, and I believe I made a worthy purchase.

this cd player is so wicked awsome. it never skips and has great sound. you could pound on it all you want and it will hardly ever skip. if you were looking for an exelent cd player for less than 200 dollars, this is the one to get. it has so many neat features and it says sorry when it does skip.

4.0 out of 5 stars This thing keeps up with me with out missing a beat!, August 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Panasonic SLSW505J Portable CD Player (Electronics)
I am a serious runner who has been waiting for the day when I could listen to CDs on my daily runs. Well that day has finally come for me. I love this thing. I've used it for over 50 miles and it has not skipped at all. The batter life is the phenomenal.

The only down side to this machine is the neoprene sports belt that must be used. It is cheaply made. I put my keys in the zipper pouch. After four days the seams split and I lost my keys while on a run. If it were not for the cheap sports belt I would have given this machine five stars.
