Other highlights include 24-track programming, Panasonic's X-SBS bass boost, lightweight headphones, and a hold function that saves battery life by preventing accidental turn-on. Hold also locks the unit in an uninterruptible play mode if this is desired.
The player's sound is warm and easy, but the headphones project a slightly hooded quality we hear with vocals. In addition, the X-SBS bass boost cannot be defeated--an option that we definitely miss. Even with X-SBS, bass isn't overpowering. Nor does the SLSX270 play as loudly as other portables we've tested--but it was still loud enough for us!
Two AA batteries have a healthy 28-hour lifespan, even with antishock engaged, and the supplied AC adapter helps prolong battery life while you're listening at home.
All in all, Panasonic's SLSX270 is loads of fun and a terrific value, underlined by a generous one-year warranty. This is one portable CD player that's all substance and no flash. --Wayne Garcia
Pros:
Cons:
It sports a heat-resistant, polycarbonate casing, so you can confidently place it on the dash of your car without damaging the CD player. It also has a sliding lock to keep the lid closed during rougher handling. A one-push, full-open mechanism pops the lid and slightly ejects the disc, so you can easily load and remove your audio media. Its compact design lets you slip it into a pocket or, using the included neoprene belt, take it with you wherever you go.
Panasonic offers a one-bit digital-to-analog converter to ensure exceptional signal linearity--you can hear every quiet note amid competing instruments. The super-extra bass system delivers hard-hitting low-end, while a digital servo system maintains accurate reading and playback.
People who exercise can put in a disc, program their settings, and forget worries about changing those settings--a convenient hold switch prevents other buttons from being pressed accidentally, saving batteries as well as effort.
A top-mounted liquid crystal display reveals operating details such as track information and whether antishock is on or off. The Panasonic SL-SX270 offers 24-track random-access programming that lets you listen to songs on a CD in the order you prefer or completely at random.
Track and disc repeat automatically replays any song or, once the disc is over, it starts at the beginning without stopping. You can skip through the tracks, search, or pause the music, and a resume function plays the music from the exact same spot.
To eliminate audio skips, Panasonic offers in this model version 3.0 of its enhanced antishock memory. It gives you virtually flawless playback, even during jolt-heavy activities like driving and jogging.
How does it work? Panasonic's antishock system rotates discs faster than normal speed, reading the digital data into a memory buffer. When a vertical shock occurs along the axis of a disc and causes a tracking error, the system plays music, stored 40 seconds in advance, from its digital memory so the correct tracking resumes.
Additionally, the antishock memory has a sophisticated new chip to correct horizontal shocks that occur in the plane of disc rotation and can sometimes force the disc to momentarily spin faster or slower. Controlling sporadic disc speeds allows the digital memory buffer to cope with vertical errors and function at full capacity, though you should be aware that jolts continuing longer than the buffer can still interfere with playback.
The SL-SX270 spins discs reliably and it plays them longer. On a pair of AA alkaline batteries (not included), it offers up to 28 hours of playback. It runs on an AC adapter that comes with the CD player, so you can listen to your favorite CDs right away. An auto power shutoff feature turns the unit off after five minutes of non-use to preserve battery life.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic SLSX270 Portable CD Player (Electronics)
I had a Panasonic portable CD player that I bought about 10 years ago. Recently, I decided I needed a replacement for it, though the player was still running strong. I've seen all of these new portable CD players from different manufacturers, and I made the mistake of falling for one of these "hip inexpensive new style" players (*ahem* KOSS *cough*). Bad idea.So I decided to go back to what worked, and bought this Panasonic. In a word: awesome. Very light, very stylish, great AC adapter, quiet, the anti-skip function is superb (and you have the option of turning it on or off), and even the headphones (while far from perfect) do an admirable job. Sony has cheapened the quality of its discman, and other subpar companies will try to bait you with bright colors and low prices while giving you junk. Panasonic has always made quality consumer electronics, and their portable CD players are no exception. They might be marginally more expensive than the lesser names, but when you have a portable CD player that you like and can depend on, it is more than worth it.

I began shopping around for CD players after my last one finally bit the dust after no time at all. (Memorex. A warning.) Being frugal, I looked at Koss and GPX among others but kept hearing the same three-star reviews warning against how cheap the products were. So finally, I figured I can spend more money now for this player, or shell out cash every six months on a replacements.I got this in the mail and was instantly happy. It's amazingly small and lightweight. (They tell you that, but it's different in your own hand...) It's amazingly battery-efficient. It could go for an extra day or two off batteries my last player said were dead. I took it on the treadmill with me, and no matter what angle or speed I was at, resting on the input screen ahead of me, it never missed a beat. The only so-so thing about the player is it's not very loud. I knew this however from previous reviews and went ahead and bought it anyway. I'm still satisfied, and to compensate that, I'll just buy a headset whose speakers go into your ear, rather than pad the outside. A simple solution to a minimal problem. It's a great product. There really isn't anything I can say about it that would put it down or degrade it in anyway. It's not terribly expensive compared to some others out there. For its price range, it goes above and beyond for quality; paying for itself again and again. And lastly, I take this CD player with me to school as well and it survives my backpack unscathed. If it can handle me going to and from classes, it can handle anything. Plus, it has the "hold" feature. For all of you who don't know what that is, it keeps your player from playing if, let's say, it'd been bumped in your bag, thus saving your batteries for music for you, as opposed to your wallet or book or whatever else it was sandwiched up against. :)

I would like to start by saying that this is a great inexpensive cd player from a well known name: Panasonic. Now there are cheaper ones, many of which I have tried, but they suck. This one however works flawlessly. It is easy to use...good product without the price tag of sony--which are also good but a bit expensive. My favorite thing about this CD player is the 'button-popup' cd relese. There are some problems that prevented me from giving it a perfect score: 1) The bass boost is weak compared to some other brands, (sony has a multi-level base boost has has a couple different bass boost settings.) 2) The button are sometimes pressed when you don't want them to if they are kept in tight areas such as a pocket, but that's the purpose of the hold button ;). 3) The volume 'dial' is not in the easy position to use (not a big problem at all, caused no real problems). 4) the cover open slider is easily inadvertently triggered, but the 'button' method (used by sony, and most other manufactures) is even worse.
