4.0 out of 5 stars Lamp Good for Your Eyes
I had a halogen desk lamp which I felt the light was too strong and the bulb was too hot. It even melt part of the top of my LCD monitor case when the light touch the case. So I decided to look for one which has the right brightness and "cold". I found Panasonic SQT917S601 Electric Fluorescent in ... Since it use fluorescent technology,it should not be too hot. In...

2.0 out of 5 stars this product is very fragile
Looks nice, but I have to say this product is very fragile.
I just bought this last week. Then yesterday, I accidentally dropped it from the desk to the carpeted floor. And the joint part between the base and neck was instantly crashed. I was so upset and called the customer service of Panasonic this afternoon. The department gave me the phone number of their...

So I decided to look for one which has the right brightness and "cold". I found Panasonic SQT917S601 Electric Fluorescent in ... Since it use fluorescent technology,it should not be too hot. In addition, it claim to be good for your eyes, so I decided to give it a try.

I have been using it for 3 weeks and I am glad it met my expectation of (1) light good for my eyes (2) not too hot to melt my LCD case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect desk lamp!, December 30, 2003

I really liked this lamp. It has attractive stylish modern design. It creates a spot light illuminating the area where exactly you need it. In doing this it doesn't affect the computer monitor nearby. It's very easy on eye as far as I can tell. It uses fluorescent bulb with some Panasonic' proprietary technology. I didn't have a need so I don't know yet how easy it is to get a bulb replacement. Highly recommended!

I've been batting about .500 lately on Amazon artifacts and gadgets, sending half of them back. I'm happy to say this luminous little gem made by Panasonic is definitely a keeper.

I started with a heavy flourescent desk lamp that took up too much space, moved to an expander-armed light bulb model that clipped to the back edge of the desk but kept falling off, next ordered one of those "miracle" daylight/full-spectrum/"antidepressant" lights that merely darkened my mood because it wasn't covering sufficient area brightly enough.

This model is smaller, lighter, and brighter than I had anticipated. It takes up as much space as a pack of cigarettes, and is constructed in such a way that the long tube element isn't parallel with the back of the desk but extends away from it at a 90 degree angle. Even so, it covers all of my working space, left and right as well as back and front.

It's a bit pricey, but I'm tempted to say it's a good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wasn't surprised..., November 8, 2005
This review is from: Panasonic SQT917S601 Electric Fluorescent Desk Lamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a VERY rare thing for me to be able to say, but it's true: Going back twenty years, I have never bought a Panasonic appliance-type product that I wasn't thrilled with. In 1985, I was a consumer electronics retailer and a distributor talked me into selling Panasonic appliances. From fans to air conditioners to you-name-it, the Panasonics were always the most innovative, well thought out products we sold.

This light is no exception. It looks great and works great. I was a wee bit concerned when ordering because there was no color temperature listed for the bulb, and the color of light is very important to me. I don't like yellow light. No problem here; the light is the beautiful, daylight-like, very white color. It's very close to the overpriced "full spectrum" lights, if there's any difference at all.

You'll like it, and I'm a tough reviewer.

5.0 out of 5 stars World Class Lighting and Engineering, January 15, 2004

Was looking for an affordable inveter lamp and tried this out after the good reviews. I would say the lighting is much much better on the eyes than conventional incandescent lamps. Really well designed foldable soft light feature too. Panasonic quality and reliability a big plus. Perfect desk lamp and takes up minimal space thanks to smart design. Highly recommended

This review is from: Panasonic SQT917S601 Electric Fluorescent Desk Lamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
This desk lamp is very attractive and looks great next to a silver colored LCD monitor.

The high-frequency inverter that drives the fluorescent tube allows this lamp to operate quietly - without the continuous hum/buzz that accompany cheaper fluorescent lamps.

The ability to fold down the lamp to put it in a "soft light" feature is nice, but if you have a fairly reflective (i.e., white semi-gloss painted) wall behind the lamp, the result is somewhat unpleasant, as the light from the lamp is emitted out to the back, where it hits the wall and then comes back toward you as glare. This is less of an issue with a fabric-covered cubicle wall, or if your desk is not right up against a wall.

Because it is made mostly of light-weight plastic, adjusting the lamp positions usually requires using both hands. Also, the adjustability is somewhat limited; however, it covers most of the realistic uses of the lamp (and is certainly more adjustable than the OttLamps that used to be my favorites).

Since this lamp uses a HF inverter, I wish Panasonic took the extra step to make the lamp dimmable. As others have mentioned, the lamp is a bit too bright for some occasions.

Overall, a great product.

4.0 out of 5 stars I own three and am about to buy a fourth., April 17, 2004

* Info: Its ARM, where it attaches to the base, can tilt up-down but cannot tilt left-right and cannot pivot. There's just one degree of freedom here.

* Info: Its SHADE can tilt up-down and can even pivot but cannot tilt left-right. There are two degrees of freedom here.

* Pro: It starts automatically. It therefore can be controlled by an external on/off switch, such as a wall switch controlling wall outlet.

* Con: It has no anti-slip material on its base, and it is so lightweight that its base requires a considerably level surface to sit on.

* Pro: Its power cord is refreshingly long.

* Con: Its power cord is unnecessarily thick & heavy.

* Con: It is pricey, and Amazon seems to have no significant online competition for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good Desk Lamp, September 19, 2005
This review is from: Panasonic SQT917S601 Electric Fluorescent Desk Lamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
This lamp is probably the best one that I have seen. Very bright light, without being too bright where it may annoy you. Definitely worth spending a little extra money to have a nice desk lamp, instead of just buying a cheap one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Desk Lamp, May 18, 2005
This review is from: Panasonic SQT917S601 Electric Fluorescent Desk Lamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
this desk lamp is great, the light is bright and clear and easy on the eyes. the housing and construction is of light plastic, so its not the most durable item but its light and easily movable. i would imagine if they used more sturdy materials the price would go up naturally..... for its price its super, especially with the bulbs that priced at approx 7 bucks. recommend for anyone looking for a desk lamp that is cool and clear and non-halogen. I looked into the OTT lamps but they seem overpriced and this lamp seems like the perfect balance between price and light clarity. Attach some plastic rubber bumpers available at your local drug store to the bottom to help with the non-skid bottom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lamp with bulb replacement instruction, January 20, 2006

Many reviewers have said this lamp is perfect for a working space. I agree. I also want to add that this lamp (only 13w, but bright enough for reading) can save a lot of energy and cut back your electricity bill if you use it more than 8 hours a day instead of using some 300w ceiling lamp. You can also use a coin to adjust the bolts easily if it is too loose/tight.

Some reviews mentioned it's hard to find a replacement for the bulb. In the instruction sheet coming with the lamp, a Panasonic part replacement web-site is given:
http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/epartr/

I just bought two bulbs for less than $20 (including tax and shipping fee). Since the bulb lasts for 10,000 hours according to the instruction, it's unusual to buy the replacement so often.
