4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect
Although I've only owned this cooker for a lil over a month, I feel qualified to speak to it's usefulness. A bit pricey for the capacity, it's effectiveness can't be overstated. For family of 3 or less this cooker makes plenty of rice. I especially like that it can make one serving of rice fairly quickly. No fancy electronics, just a plain timed cooker. Mix the rice...

Mix the rice and water (or stock), flip the switch and when it turns off you have perfect rice. I found domestic packaged rice like Uncle Ben's to need proportions of 1:1 water to rice. Imported sticky rice from India or Asia needs a lil less water, like .8:1. You'll find the proportions you need. I hope this cooker lasts longer than at least one reviewer claimed. Once outside the warranty period, if the timer fails (I'm sure it uses a simple bi-metal timer), I just wire in a cheap electronic timer from Radio Shack.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for travel, December 5, 2008

i am a flight attendant. most of the time there is no meal service. also, we are runing from plane to plane no time to stop and get a hot meal. also, it's get expensive. room service is over-priced, and it's the same old stuff at every hotel. with this little work horse i can bring food from home and heat it up so i can have a hot meal. i have used it to heat up more than rice. i use it for soup, chili, oatmeal, even left over pasta with sauce. this may sound expensive, but will pay for itself if you use it as often as i do.

After almost a year of perfect operation, with the rice cooker being used about twice a week, suddenly it wouldn't switch itself off. Nor could the on/off switch be operated manually. The rice just kept cooking and cooking. After about 55 minutes we pulled the plug out of the wall and tipped out what was by now a solid block of rice. It was lightly burned underneath and a bit on the sides. It seems to me that if we had been relying totally on the auto shut-off feature then there must have been a very real risk of fire. This is not only a big concern but also a big disappointment. The compact size and excellent non-stick finish had been just perfect for us.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little expensive but perfect, May 16, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic SR-3NA Rice Cooker (Kitchen)
I am using it everyday for probably 2 months and so far it is working great. I like the fature that it shutsoff after rice is cooked that is the reason I bought this for. The reason that I didn't give five stars is because I am only using it for 2 months and also I felt its a little expensive and also the shipping charges.

I have purchased this item about 1 month ago. I am a flight attendant and my mini rice cooker fits perfectly in my suitcase. I make 2 cups of rice every night in my hotel room et with a mold I make 3 rice balls to eat the next day. It takes about 15 minutes to make. Perfect for trips.
Good luck, Louise P.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect rice cooker for small quantities, December 21, 2011

Love this 1.5 cup rice cooker. Advise, use their measure cup, when they say 1 cup they mean 1 of their plastic measure cup provided.. if you check out the actual quantity in your measuring cup and note the difference you can toss theirs and use your own.. I think it's less than 1/2 cup.. I use Jasmine rice that I buy from Amazon, or Jasmine rice from the grocery store in a plastic jar. Jasmine rice has the best taste to us. Seems the more you pay for your rice the less time you'll spend rinsing it. I've had a small rice cooker like this in the past and ruined it by putting chicken broth in it to replace part of the water... burned the bottom of the pot.. so after that the rice continued to burn to the bottom of the pan.. bought a new larger rice cooker because I couldn't find the 1.5 cup and bought the 3.0 cup with is really larger to store and use. When I put a small amount of rice in that 3.0 cup it just never worked out .. had to make a large amount, then I'd use 1/3 at the meal and freeze two bags (1/3 ea) for a follow up meal. I made the mistake of putting butter and salt in the rice cooker once and burned the bottom of the pot so all future rice stuck to the pot, always a little burned. Replaced it with this 1.5 cup rice cooker. It's so worth the price... yes you can buy one twice as big for half as much money.. I think the bottom line is how much rice do you want to make? do you want to freeze or refridgerate some? I thought the larger was good for when company was coming but since then have decided to just make 2 or 3 pots full with the small rice cooker and set the rice aside for use later. It reheats easily. Also my fried rice recipe says chill the rice then use it for fried rice. Works for me. Today I enjoyed making a small amount of Jasmine rice and not having problems. The rice was just right, soft enough... tasty... clean up easy..

5.0 out of 5 stars We use it a LOT, March 23, 2011

I did not want another big item to store, and can make rice just fine on top of the stove! But, this is perfect for 2 people... we can take it in our tiny Airstream when on the road, and I find we use it a lot at home, because it takes less watching. I have tried steaming veggies on top of the rice, and that works great. If I can fit in our suitcases..... it might just have to travel with us on some longer hotel trips, as I am inspired by the airline steward's comments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth its weight in gold for a single person, March 7, 2011

I've owned this rice cooker for around seven years. I live alone and I eat a lot of rice, so having a small rice cooker is the perfect thing for me. It's not fancy, and there are no bells and whistles. It just does what it's supposed to, and that's cooking up small quantities of perfect rice.

I'd estimate that I've used this rice cooker between 500 and 1000 times, and I haven't been terribly gentle with it-- I put the bowl in the dishwasher, and I use metal spoons on it. The nonstick coating is starting to show its age, and I'm thinking about replacing the bowl. This strikes me as a perfectly reasonable life expectancy for a nonstick surface that hasn't been cared for. In fact, it's excellent.

My only complaint is that it's more expensive than smaller rice cookers of similar function. It's worth the price, though, if it's the right size for you.
