Product Description

Automatic Rice Cooker

Conquer a variety of culinary endeavors with help from Panasonic's automatic rice cooker. Create light, fluffy, restaurant-quality rice--perfect for side dishes or stir-fries. Or make sticky rice for rolling sushi, Spanish rice for enchilada night, or hearty wild rice to add to a tossed green salad--or even creamy rice pudding with cinnamon sprinkled on top for dessert. The small electric appliance takes care of cooking the rice, so that busy moms and dads can focus on getting the rest of the meal prepared and on the table.

Control panel
One-touch operation, plus indicator lights. (Model SR-G10G shown.)
Cook up to 20 Cups of Rice

Panasonic's automatic rice cookers come in four useful sizes. Choose from a 3-cup, 6-cup, 10-cup, or 20-cup cooked-rice capacity--great for single people and small families or for larger-size families or for those who love to entertain.

Removable inner pot
Nonstick removable inner pan
for effortless food release and quick cleanup.
(Select models. Model SR-G06FG shown.)
Glas lid
See-through tempered glass lid for safe, easy monitoring. (Model SR-G10G shown.)

Novice or pro--any home chef will appreciate the convenience of having a little extra help in the kitchen. Simply add rice to the cooker, pour in the measured amount of water, secure the lid, and press the lever to start cooking--it takes care of the rest. The rice cooker's inner aluminum cooking pan heats quickly for fast, even heating, while its glass lid traps in heat, moisture, and nutrients, plus allows for at-a-glance monitoring (no need to remove the lid).

When cleaning the rice before cooking, do not wash the rice in the cooker pan. For best results, it is recommended that a separate pan be used for cleaning the rice.

One-Step Automatic Cooking

The rice cooker automatically cooks the rice for the correct amount of time, then shuts off automatically for excellent results. Even more, the 10-cup and 20-cup units automatically switch over to a Keep Warm mode, which keeps the rice hot and delicious--and ready to serve--for up to four hours, without over-cooking. A nonstick coating on the removable inner cooking pan (most models) helps prevent cooked rice from sticking to the sides and the bottom and makes cleanup a snap.

Accessories
Rice scoop, steam basket, and measuring cup included. (Select models. See chart for details.)

Other highlights include a handy "cooking" indicator light, stay-cool lid and side handles for safe transport, secure feet to keep the cooker raised up above countertop surfaces, and a sleek, modern design that will be sure to compliment any kitchen decor.

A measuring cup comes included, as well as a rice scoop (all sizes, except for the 10-cup cooker), and a steaming basket (20-cup cooker only) for steaming seafood or fresh vegetables while simultaneously cooking rice. Leave the rice cooker out for easy access throughout the week or store it compactly away between uses. A welcome addition to any busy kitchen, Panasonic's line of automatic rice cookers make a great gift idea and carry a one-year limited manufacturer's warranty.

I bought this rice cooker 2 months ago.(after having a problem with my old nonstick rice cooker) The reason I chose this one because I don't like Taflon nonstick surface. It'd come off no matter how you took good care of it. So far, I'm very pleased with it.

I'm an Asain who eat rice everyday. I cooked as little as 2 cup or as much as 5 cup (full capacity). I never had any experience about rice stick in the bottom of the pot. However, you have to know the trick. Every time you cook rice, you have to let it stand in the pot for at least 10 to 15 minutes (after the cook button change to warm button) before taking rice out of the pot, as a result, rice will never stick. And for this price ($26.99), it's very worth my money for having perfect rice in every meal. Clean up is very easy, just soak the inner pot for several minutes before cleaning.

Size is perfect for 2 to 4 people, and cooks rice very nicely. And its true what another reviewer said - let the rice rest for 10 mins after cooking and it wont stick. I prefer to unplug it and not have the warm feature. I have cooked white and brown with this rice cooker and have obtained good results. Just be sure to adjust amount of water depending on the type of rice you are cooking.

Cleaning is easy. Couple of ergonomic things I dont like: the handles are really dinky, and the cooking pot has a very shallow lip (unlike my old 20-year National which this replaced). Also power cord is permanently attached which can be awkward for storing.

All in all, price is right!

Several reviewers have commented saying they don't like it because it does not have non stick surface but has only aluminum pot. This cooker is for those who want to eat rice without TEFLON bits peeled off and mixed with rice. Those Teflon bits are toxins and can hurt one's body in the long run. Yes, it is harder to clean than non-stick surface but healthier.

Its cheap... You want to cook rice... it will cook rice... how complicated can that get?

But dont expect perfection...

The rice sticks to the bottom especially if you leave it in there for too long after its cooked. But its not the hardest thing in the world to clean it... just leave some warm water in the vessel for a while and the rice that was stuck to the bottom comes right off...

The bottom line is that it does the job... and thats what I was looking for.

I've been using this for a couple of months now to make brown and white rice and I've been very happy with it. It's a good size for 2-4 people. It makes perfect rice if you follow the guide in the booklet that comes with it. I thoroughly rinse the rice (more on that in the next paragraph), then soak it for 30mins before cooking, then when it's done cooking I let it stand for 15 minutes. Cooking usually takes 30 minutes to an hour depending on the type and amount of rice. The rice cooker switches to "warming" mode once it's finished cooking.

I would suggest you rinse your rice before cooking it, although there seems to be a debate over whether you should or not. Most rice sold in the USA is coated with extra vitamins by the producer. So, rinsing will remove the vitamins but will also remove a lot of the extra starch, making for a cleaner, lighter rice once cooked. To rinse, I put the rice in the pot, cover it with water, swirl the rice around throughly, then tilt the pot to drain the water. Repeat several times until the water stops getting cloudy as you swirl. With brown rice especially the water gets extremely cloudy. Others will tell you not to rinse rice before cooking to preserve the nutrition, so it's something you have to decide for yourself.

Back to the review... I wanted a rice cooker without a non-stick coating because I'm paranoid and would rather not risk the health effects of Teflon. It takes a little extra work to clean this pot but as long as you soak it then it's not a big deal.

This cooker is definitely worth the money - it's simple, works well and doesn't cost a lot. You also get the ability to steam food with it. The only bad thing about it is once it enters the warming cycle, the only way to turn it off is to unplug it. But that's really a non-issue for me and if you can live with that then you'll have a good little rice cooker.

Had to update my rice cooker as my other panasonic of over 20 years gave out. This cooker is the updated version very easy to use, works just as well. The only draw back is no steaming tray was included but my old one works in this unit and the cord is attached to the machine unlike the older versions making it a little more difficult for storage. Other than the new design the cooker is great value for the price and works nicely.

Rest assured that the low price of this rice cooker does not mean that you'll get low quality rice. Just the opposite actually. My first rice cooker was a fancy (expensive) fuzzy logic version, and I returned it because it made awful rice. This rice cooker makes perfect rice of every variety. With brown and whole grain (or any rice that requires cooking longer than 20 minutes per bag instructions), you need to add a bit more water - approx. 1/8-1/4 cup depending on type of rice.

I searched high and low for an inexpensive rice cooker that did not use any nonstick coating (the fluorocarbons shed by the nonstick is supposed to pass through the human body, but studies show trace amounts lingering for decades). This is the only one I found. I works like a charm, cooks quickly, and cleans up easily (if you soak it for about an hour before washing). Wish Panasonic or someone else would make a larger capacity in the same material.
