5.0 out of 5 stars Great card, especially for the price

3.0 out of 5 stars Reliable, but really slow!
I purchased two of these cards and noticed that they were considerably slower than my Sandisk Extreme cards. Using Xbench on my mac, I benchmarked both cards. The Panasonic's averaged a 9.3 MB/sec write speed and 18.3 MB/sec read speed. Not even close to its claimed speed and does not even make the minimum speed for a Class 10 card. The Sandisk averaged 19.1 MB/sec...

I've had a few Panasonic SD cards and have always enjoyed their performance and exceptional reliability.
I tend to shoot with 8 GB cards mostly because they allow a lot of shooting without the risk of putting all your pictures on one card.

I purchased this card and a SanDisk Extreme Class 10 8GB SDHC card and I will give a quick comparison of the two.

Panasonic Pros:
- Looks great. The bright face and case make the card easier to find when it's buried in your camera bag.
- Has a Memo section on the front and back of the card for labeling purposes. (Although the back part is black)
- Includes a nice-looking sliding case. (Although it is bulkier than the standard cases other SD cards have)
- Priced substantially lower than the equivalent SanDisk.
- Made in Japan (The SanDisk is made in China)
- Very fast read/write speeds.

Cons:
- Not as fast as the SanDisk, although it doesn't claim to be.

The Panasonic states up to 22 MB/s, whereas the SanDisk claims up to 30 MB/s.

The warranty on the Panasonic is 10 years while the SanDisk has a lifetime warranty. But that is pretty much irrelevant since these cards are only usable for a few years before they are too small or too slow.

My comparison test was shooting with my Pentax K-7 which does 5.2 frames per second. I shot JPG 1/100 of a second and the average file size was 9MB. I was able to shoot 53 shots over a 25 second period with about 12 seconds of writing following. This is quite a bit faster than my previous Panasonic Class 6 cards.

With the SanDisk I was able to shoot 67 shots over 25 seconds with 9 seconds of writing afterward. The SanDisk was clearly faster but unless you are doing constant HD movie recording or using burst mode all the time, you would never notice the difference. The Panasonic is more than fast enough for all normal shooting.

I can't say the difference in cost is worth the extra speed of the SanDisk. At the time of this review the Panasonic ($42) is $15-$20 cheaper than the SanDisk.
Overall I highly recommend this card. Like other Panasonic cards I've owned, I expect it will be extremely reliable.

EDIT: Now this card is actually more expensive than the Sandisk SanDisk 8GB Extreme SDHC Class 10 High Performance Memory Card (SDSDX3-008G-P31) or Sandisk 8GB Extreme SDHC Card-Class 10 (SDSDX3-008G-A31). The Panasonic is still a great card, but the Sandisk is faster and cheaper.

I tried several cheaper brands of cards with my Olympus E-PL1, but was getting corrupt images with them. So I tried this card and it works great and is fairly fast. The E-PL1 will shoot about 18 large super-fine(LSF) JPG frames continuously at 3fps before slowing down. Then it only takes a few seconds for it to stop writing, before it is ready again for another 18 frames. This is fast enough for me. The cards I ordered also were made in Japan, if that matters to anyone.

I am using this card on my Nikon D5000. It performs exceptionally at burst shooting. The camera is set at full 12.3 mp resolution and JPEG Fine image quality, each photo is about 5 MB. Class 10 is a must if you plan on shooting sports at high speeds with burst shooting, and this Panasonic does the trick. I highly recommend this for DSLR users and P&S users alike for high speed shooting and HD videos.

This memory card works beautifully in my Panasonic DMC-ZS7 camera. Class 10 cards are usually very expensive. I have had no problems taking pictures or HD movies using this card. Took lots of movies at the dog park with my Labradoodle puppy. I am very happy with this product.

The Sandisk averaged 19.1 MB/sec write speed and 26.99 MB/Sec read speed. Using both these cards in my Nikon D7000, I was unable to shoot 6fps with either card in RAW. However, I was able to get 5fps with the Sandisk and only 2fps with the Panasonic. I guess I will purchase the Sandisks from here on out.

Again Panasonic has won over my heart! I've purchased Panasonic DVDs, TV, Lumix ZS7 Digital Camera and now this memory card and have been impressed with the quality and longevity of each item.

After doing research, I've realized that the memory card makes a huge difference in the quality of your pictures when it comes to digital cameras. I took pictures of my girls in auto mode with my Lumix ZS7 and was questioned if they were professional pictures. It helps create crisp pictures without any errors.

I highly recommend this product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best deal on SD card, August 18, 2010

I've been extremely pleased with these cards.
Without a doubt this is the best bang for your buck if you're looking to get a class 10 SD card.
They look good, work well, and I have no looming fear that one day my SD card is going to suddenly stop working like some other brands do.

I'm a big fan of the slider case, I bent a paper clip and looped it through the hole in all the slider cases so that they all stay together. might eventually upgrade to a keyring or something. I find if very handy for keeping them all in one place.

I initially bought 2 of these a couple months ago, just bought another one today.

Overall this product does exactly what it is supposed to, does it well, and for less money than any of the competition worth their salt.

It works as advertised. It is fast enough for video on my Panasonic GH1 in HD video mode. I have not run benchmark tests on it, but so far, it is very good and fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars No problems, works great on video, November 8, 2010

I ordered this for my new Nikon P7000 specifically because I needed to take a lot of video. It works fine, no problems and definitely no chatter or stutter in the 720p video on the Nikon, so I'm happy.

A bonus is that I discovered that this card is fast enough to act as a ReadyBoost on my laptop, so when I plug it in, I have it set to use 4GB for the ReadyBoost cache and I do believe it helps speed up the video processing times on my relatively lower powered G455 Lenovo, which probably isn't the ideal laptop for processing HD video, but works well on the road.

Also, the card comes in a nice little slide-open case, although I never use it, the card goes from the Nikon to the laptop and that's it.

Overall, I'd recommend it and I feel better even though it may have cost a little more because it's a Panasonic brand and I'm a pretty big fan of Panasonic, having had good luck with their products over the years.

I do video professionally. I bought three of these for independent video production. One was essentially DOA. I've had this happen with other brands as well. I think there is just a "failure rate" with any manufacturer. The two which work, along with two other 16GB cards from Panasonic work great. They are very fast. Never have had a glitch with any of them shooting HD video.
