Panasonic 30" Stainless Steel Trim Kit for 2.2 cuft Stainless Steel Microwaves

The stainless steel trim really sets off the microwave nicely. It looks beautiful but it was expensive. At $159, it cost almost as much as the microwave itself. It's about an inch thick - not just a flat plate but rather has molded slots that give it a deep, rich appearance.

The kit also comes with a base to secure the microwave and ventilation duct work. Those open slots you see at the top and bottom of the trim are to keep the microwave electrical components cool. The duct work is mounted onto the microwave which is then secured to the base then the entire assembly slides into your cabinet. Alternatively, you can install the base in the cabinet before resting the microwave on it. The raised base allows for more breathing room below the microwave and it positions the unit so the oven protrudes just enough from your cabinet to mount flush with the trim. The finshed look is elegant and professional.

This trim works on all 2.2 cu ft Panasonic microwaves. We used it on the NN-SD978S which we purchased from Sam's Club for $169.

I took one star off for the price. It would have been 5 stars at $120 or less.

Both the trim and microwave were purchased in July of 2010.

After having to return the first one sent to us because of a misdrilled hole, we installed this cover/trim kit in front of our Panasonic microwave with very little effort. It looks great!

Trim kit fit like a charm. We did have to cut a small portion of the surrounding wood from our cabinet, but that is due to the previous unit was bit smaller.

Good quality Stainless Steel Trim.

Hard to find in stores and if they have, very expensive.

Fit's the cutout my home builder did for a Maytag unit.

The trim kit looks nice and installation was easy. If you check Panasonic's website, you'll see exact measurements given for the opening, but there is actually some leeway. My cabinet opening was 2 inches wider and 3/4 inch shorter than what's specified. The width was not a problem - the extra space is hidden behind the sides of the trim kit. The height is determined by the vent which attaches to the oven and is part of the trim kit. I was able to squeeze it a bit to get past the slightly shorter opening. Bottom line try it before altering your cabinets. On the downside, it was a bit expensive. Further on the downside, once installed the microwave worked exactly one time. Panasonic support agreed it was defective. Amazon of course was great about taking it back. And so far the replacement is working.

We bought a Panasonic stainless steel 2.2 cuft Microwave oven at Sam's Club in March 2011 and a few days later, we used our Amazon account to order the 30 inch Stainless Steel Trim Kit for 2.2 cuft stainless Steel Microwaves advertised at the Amazon.com website. We tried to instal it within an hour of receiving the order from Amazon, but it was soon clear to my husband, a mechanical engineer, that it did not fit, so we just followed the online instructions for returning the Trim Kit to Amazon, and a few days later, returned the Panasonic microwave oven to Sam's Club. Both procedures were very efficient and we got a refund on both items within a week.

We are sure the microwave oven we purchased would have been as good as any former Panasonic appliance we have bought, but we really needed to put a trim kit around it. We decided we should let our kitchen designer pick the brand and the dimensions of a new microwave oven for our kitchen.
