Panasonic TC-L37C22 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Amazon.com

Offering excellent picture performance, Panasonic's 37-inch VIERA TC-L37C22 LCD HDTV provides 720p high-definition imagery and an improved panel with In Plane Switching (IPS) for an ultra-wide viewing angle and higher moving picture resolution for clear, bright images. This C22 series model also features 24P Playback function for superb imagery from 24-frame movies on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, and an 18,000:1 contrast ratio.

This and other models in the C22 line offer Panasonic's VIERA Image Viewer feature, which enables you to play slideshows of JPEG images stored on SD memory cards, as well as the VIERA Link feature for controlling a variety of compatible components--from Blu-ray Disc players to digital cameras--through a single remote.

Adhering to Panasonic's commitment to the environment, this VIERA model--as well as all 2010 models--features improved power consumption and meets the new, more stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements.

Key Features

In Plane Switching (IPS): The latest iteration of Panasonics IPS LCD panel features excellent light transmittance and a wide viewing angle. The wide 178-degree viewing angle--both horizontally and vertically--ensures clear images even when viewed from an angle. And the panel backlight's wide transmission aperture enhances the contrast between light and dark, improving motion-image response.

VIERA Image Viewer: View full-HD images with the integrated SD card slot, enabling you to view JPEG photos captured from your digital camera or camcorder on the big screen. Navigate your images via an easy-to-use thumbnail display.

VIERA Link: Allows the interlinked operation of various AV devices--from DVD and Blu-ray Disc players to home theater sound systems to digital cameras and camcorders--using only the VIERA remote control by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable (see pop-up illustration).

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Just fits in the space we needed.

The sound quality and volume are quite acceptable for watching programs on a regular basis, but of course a home theater would always enhance the viewing experience.

Easy to use remote and menu's, once you tweak the picture settings you can see the best of it.

When I started looking for HDTV, i went to BestBuy and had a look at all major leagues. I finalized on Panasonic because that had very crisp pictures. Then I saw a great deal on K-Mart, and immediately bought it.

Pros:
1. Very good HD and SD quality. You need to consider SD quality as well since you still have few TV channels on SD and if you are like me where Dish Network can only provide 4 out of 120 channels in HD you know what I am saying.
2. Very good side to side viewing, you can literally sit on the side and still enjoy TV.
3. Excellent sound, it's really loud for its 10W speakers.
4. This TV appears as speakers in Windows 7, so you can select it as default speakers, and each time you plug in your computer with HDMI cable, you get audio as well.
5. Easy to use remote and menu's, once you tweak the picture settings you can see the best of it.
6. It eve turns off your computer (with Windows 7) when you turn off your TV. So if you can setup Windows Media center then its best suited for it.

Cons:
1. As with every budget TV this does not have analog audio out. No headphone jack either.
2. Might not be fully compatible with all universal remotes. I have Dish network remote, and I cannot change any menu settings. But I can change sound volume and turn it on or off.

Bought the Panasonic TC-L37C22 without researching it first (liek I always do) because they were selling it at $399.00 it was the last one they had and it was just the right size I was looking for....

Picture quality is pretty decent for a 720p it has a mate screen which does note refflect as much light as the regular screens and the SD slot is a very unique feature, but what dissapoints is indeed the sound output, it sounds ok, but the max volume is definitely too low. It could be a software issue because I actually use this TV in Mexico and over here we still get some analog channels and on the analog channels the volume is great, very loud but as soon as you change to a digital channel the volume goes way down. This wouldn't be much of a problem if it had a regular audio RCA output for you to connect just about any speakers you want, but the Engineers at Panasonic decided (and it could also be that this is an entry model)it would be best to only add an optical output, so I you have an old home theatre system without an optical input consider it useless. Good thing I bought this for the bedroom where there is not much noise when I'm watching it. Hopefully PANASONIC can come out with an update via the SD card to fix this issue. This would be great!

So:

-Great picture.
-Very low volume even at the highest setting and no regular RCA style audio output for you to remedy this.

If you are considering this TV for a place that has a lot of traffic or noise you need to reconsider (unless you already have a home theatre with an optical input)

This TV has really good picture features, which are adjustable. However I did not read a previous review about the sound not being very loud on it's highest setting.

This is being used in my bedroom so the sound level will do (even though I have to max it out). I have an older amplifier which does not have optical input for sound, so with this unit all my MP3's which are on my connected PC must be played using the TV speakers, unless I purchase another amplifier with Optical Input. Since I use this PC for Netflix it must be connected to the TV.

This TV also does not have a headphone jack.

The Panasonic recommended receiver is not available after an extensive search. Panasonic does not sell this receiver either.

Excellent value. Easy to set up. Picture is very good, even for a 720p. The sound is not an issue, but I can see where it might be in a large room. Edit added. It has now been nearly a year and I am totally pleased with this set

The TV was easy to set up and start watching programs out of the box. The longest part of the process was connecting the base and pedestal to the TV and that took only 2 or 3 minutes. Picture is great for a set with 720p resolution and the colors are vivid using factory settings. The sound quality and volume are quite acceptable for watching programs on a regular basis, but of course a home theater would always enhance the viewing experience.
