Panasonic TY-CC10W Skype-Enabled CameraI purchased this camera for use with a 2010 Panasonic/Viera 50" Plasma TV. While connection just required use of a USB port, the instructions left out a few important details, and I had to trial and error several things before getting close to getting the camera to work. Skype is a Viera offering, so I only had to open an account.
My expectation of Skype to Skype, was naive and based on my PC experience with Skype. It should be presented as 2010 Panasonic/Viera/Skype TV to 2010 Panasonic/Viera/Skype TV. Well, not all my contacts have a new Viera TV; so cut your use of Skype way down; if you wanted HD quality video. My unit sent video only, though incoming video and audio was alright, depending on the sender's connection speed and equipment quality.
After three weeks of Panasonic and Skype techs trying to help me get audio to transmit, I've decided to send the camera back as being defective (since there is only one cable to connect and everything else on the TV works as it should), before my return window closes. The unit itself is beautiful; it just doesn't work for me. Blogs and forums that I've checked, reveal very uneven results with this camera. Is it a software or hardware problem? I don't know, but my time is up, and I will go with what does reliably work, without the other limitations.
My suggestion? Wait till all the bugs get worked out of this Panasonic/Skype combination, before rushing in, like I did. Until then, Skype will just be an unused Viera feature on my TV. I should say that there were no vendor problems.
