Three Bought. Zero failures.,

This review is from: Panasonic UJ240 6x Blu-ray Burner BD-RE/8x DVD±RW DL SATA Drive (Black) (Electronics)
I have purchased three of these Panasonic (Matshita) UJ240AS optical drives, with the first one purchased over a year ago. None of these drives has ever failed. As a matter of fact not one of them has even hiccuped in their operations. The only drawback to these optical drives is the lack of playback software, but there are many companies out there willing to indulge you with playback software. Because these drives are, to me, a "known commodity" coupled with the fact that none of the three purchased has failed to operate as it should, I would buy no other.

I didn't have the "screwdriver" necessary so I went to Walgreen's and purchased a $3.99 screwdriver pack. One of them in there was the one I needed to use for my Acer Aspire laptop.Important: if you have the Acer Aspire laptop, you ONLY need to unscrew "one" screw in the bottom of the laptop. It's what "holds" the DVD/CD drive in place to the laptop underneath. Once you unscrew that one screw, the drive pratically will pop out with your assistance. You take the very small (yes, it's very tiny!) "plate" off the side of old drive, and screw it on the NEW Blu-ray drive, insert the Blu-ray drive in, and then rescrew it in where it holds it in place. I use WinX Blu-Ray Decrypter to rip blurays in Full Disc Mode, then I use BD-Rebuilder to compress the movie down to a standard 25GB blank blu-ray disc and then Burn Aware to burn it as a blu-ray movie by selecting the "BDMV" AND "CERTIFICATE" folder together. Voila! All done. :) If any movies give you problems use TsMuxer to make the files Blu-ray compliant and then recompress with BD-Rebuilder to 25GB (technically 23GB) if needed. With the exception of WinX Blu-Ray Decrypter, all the other programs are all free!

Excellent upgrade for Asus G73,

I purchased this to upgrade the 12.5 mm CDRW in my Asus G73SW laptop. I was pleasantly surprised to learned that it is much faster than the drive it replaced and works great to play BluRay movies through CyberLink PowerDVD 9. It does not come with any software, but Windows 7 (x64) installed drivers and I used a copy of PowerDVD that I had purchased some time back. The other BR player in my house is the Sony BDP S550 and this drive smokes it for movie loading time. This is easily the best upgrade for my laptop.
