3D Technology Checklist

This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires:

A Display
First, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession.
A Source
Your display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system.
3D Content
3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game.
3D Glasses
For now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered "active shutter" glasses, others polarized "passive" glasses. You'll need one pair per viewer, and they'll have to be compatible with your display, whether they're the same brand, or a pair of "universal" glasses designed to work across brands.
HDMI Cable
To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

If you want to get more information about 3D, shop our 3D products, watch videos, or interact with other customers, we invite you to visit 3D 101, our customer center about everything 3D.

Original Panasonic Features

VIERA Image Viewer

Equipped with an SD card slot, VIERA makes it easy to view full-HD photos and motion images that you shot yourself. Simply insert the SD memory card into the slot, and you're ready to view your photos and full-HD videos on the big screen. You can make your slide shows even more impressive by adding background music and attractive frames. With VIERA's big screen and superb image quality, family and friends will love sharing your memories.

VIERA Link

Games are much more fun when there's no lag in operation. VIERA automatically chooses settings that provide the optimal image, so you get super-fast response and no delays. Even dark scenes with delicately rendered details are beautiful and easy to see.

VIERA Tools

The VIERA Tools user interface makes it easy to access and understand key functions. Simply press a function button, and an explanation appears on the screen. Keep the button pressed to activate the function immediately.

Dynamic Contrast
IPS
IPS Alpha LED LCD Technology

The IPS Alpha panel, which is known for its wide viewing angle and excellent light transmittance, is now further enhanced with a bright, energy-saving LED backlight. Images do not fade when viewed from an angle, and contrast is higher than in previous IPS Alpha models in spite of using less power. The IPS Alpha LED LCD TV offers superb color rendering and also contributes to the display's slim design.

LED Backlight

This system places LED backlights on the top and bottom of the panel, and sends the light toward the center of the screen. Using light guides and diffusers, it distributes the light over the entire panel to provide backlighting. There is no need to cover the entire rear surface with LEDs, so the panel module is thinner and a great deal of energy is saved.

Dynamic Contrast

By combining the highly light-transmissive IPS Alpha Panel and high-brightness LED backlight, Panasonic have attained both high contrast and low power consumption. Also, by detecting the contrasting parts of the scene, the backlight is adjusted to maintain a brightness that is optimal for each area. Deep blacks are reproduced with no fading. The contrast between the brilliance of diamond-like stars and the deep black of the night sky produces a sharp, crisp image.

Wide Viewing Angle

With VIERA's wide 178° viewing angle, you see clear, vibrant images from every seat in the room. The backlight features a wide transmission aperture that enhances contrast between light and dark and improves response to provide smoother motion images.

Game Mode

Games are much more fun when there's no lag in operation. VIERA automatically chooses settings that provide the optimal image, so you get super-fast response and no delays. Even dark scenes with delicately rendered details are beautiful and easy to see.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pricey, but a very good 3D/HDTV September 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I've had the Panasonic TC-L32DT30 (32" LED 3D/HDTV) for about 6 weeks now and wanted to spend some time before writing a review.

Previously I've had the Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV and a SONY Grand Wega(TM) SXRD 50" Rear Projection TV KDS-R50XBR1. My reason for going to this TV was for a "bedroom TV" (something smaller than the 50" ones) and also one that supported 3D (for Blu-Ray and videogames).

First thing you'll probably notice (and something brought up in most online reviews) is the price. This thing is expensive at almost 1000 bucks for a 32" TV (you can get a 50" 3D plasma for less).. unfortunately Plasma's don't come in the size range I was looking for (32-37") so LED seemed to be the best option.

When buying these, I looked at multiple stores and reviews for different models/technologies as I wanted something that was near 'best in class', not something I'd regret a month after buying. Of the sets I looked at, this was the nicest looking before going into the way-more-expensive models from SONY. Unfortunately, this set was still a pretty big jump in price from the next-best ones I looked at.

Being an LED TV, it's very thin (less than an inch thick) with a stand that doesn't take up too much room. Full weight of the TV and stand is under 30 pounds and will fit nicely on any table, stand or even glass desk. The stand also allows the TV to swivel left/right easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love This TV! I absolutely made the right choice! November 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I am one of the last "hold outs" to switch from Tube TV to a flat panel television. I finally did it on a small scale starting with the bedroom TV. I did A LOT of homework on all 32" TV's before choosing. I had come to the realization that the probability of getting anything with true, last-forever, quality was non-existent. And even worse, what I found was, ALL customer service centers are lacking to a degree regarding these LED TV's when things go wrong. I could not find any brand name company that had "all good" customer reviews for response to problems. On the contrary, it appears they are quite negligent and just want you to go away. I began to think I was going to stay with my old tube set. So I approached my selection from a different angle: Which TV's have the best track record for the least amount of repairs. That answer led me to this Panasonic Viera LED/LCD. I chose this because I would take no less than 120Hz, 1080p, IPS panel, and plenty of connections for auxiliary equipment, as well as the best repair track record. The 3D or wireless LAN wasn't a requirement since 3D is still in the early stages of development.

I have been running the Panasonic TV for 4 weeks now and I can genuinely say WOW! The menu system for custom changes in color, etc., is a breeze to use. The remote has a great selection of one-touch buttons for format & color changes, etc. The only menu that is not one-touch is the INPUT system. The input button brings up a drop-down menu for input selection. As you toggle down the menu the input automatically changes and you do not have to push anymore buttons. The 3D is worthy of using too, what a surprise. The conversion of 2D to 3D is somewhat weird and does add some dimension to the picture while using the 3D glasses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasic TV June 7, 2011
By Patrick
I've only had the set for less than 24 hours and I'm greatly satisfied with it. The colors are very rich. The audio is decent. You have to adjust the treble and bass to get the sound to sound good. Most complaints, from reviewers complaining about the sound quality being bad, is due to the TV's default setting is flat. This set has the feature to boost the bass. Any who... The TV is connected to a TiVo Premier box. They work fantastically together. It The TV comes with WiFi ready. I haven't tried out the 3D. I have a player on order. I will update this review once I get the player.

This unit rocks. Unfortunately, you can't buy it any longer. I am in the market for a 42" right now and Panasonic has cheapened the lineup under 46/47". You can get a rocking set in the 47" and larger category but I cant fit it in my custom wall cavity. Don't get me wrong, every manufacturer is doing this and I don't know why. There are many rooms and situations that require a smaller TV. The specs on the 2012 sets 42" and smaller are just not good. Let's put it this way, you are better off keeping your 4 year old unit vs buying a new 42" TV today. (2012 models)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good set - some draw backs for me January 6, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a good set and I've been very happy with the purchase. Two surprises for me. First, the viewing angle is not that great. After approximately 45 degrees the clarity of picture becomes somewhat reduced (almost "milky" in appearance). Second, Panasonic does not support connecting a computer via the HDMI ports on this model. Even though some PC cards and Mac adapters do provide direct HDMI ports, cables, or adapters Panasonic solely supports connecting a computer via the VGA adapter. I was disappointed given this is the "latest" in technology (Nov 2011). Otherwise a solid expensive performer with all the bells and whistles.
