This review is from: Pancatantra of Visnusarman; Edited with a Short Sanskrit Commentary (Hardcover)
I bought this book in the first place to practise Sanskrit en learn the Devanagari sript. This book is suitable for that.
It's written in Devanagari script and translated/explained in English, with useful commentary. It would be helpful to add a vocabulary to the book. The only minor point is the quality of the print. It's frequently difficult to read. It would be helpful to use larger letters.

This review is from: Pancatantra of Visnusarman; Edited with a Short Sanskrit Commentary (Hardcover)
This is a nice edition of the Sanskrit text together with a short (Sanskrit) commentary. About 250 of the 500 pages are devoted to extensive notes (in English). There is no translation (except for "most of the verses").
If this is the first Motilal book you order: Don't pay to much money. My copy, a paperback, is excellent but Motilal books sometimes can (I really mean "can") have awful typography and/or binding (I forgive them. Stay alive Motilal!). If you end up with an pathological copy (about 5% chance), you should be able to get a new copy or throw it away and order a new one, without to much remorse. |
