Book Description

January 23, 2010
Millions are already dead. No law, no government, Taylor just wants to find his missing son, but along the way finds more. Taylor is looking for his son whom he hasn't seen since the Cleansing. He thought his travels through the radioactive and virus infected suburbs he used to call home would be simple. That was until he met them. A group of women and children slaves in desperate need of rescue. He knew that he had to save them. He also knew that if his son was still alive, he needed to find him. In a hidden military base, Dr. Miles Richards works on a cure for the ever spreading virus. With the aid of Dorothy, a self-aware robot he created, they discover far more than mutated viruses hidden deep in the military computer. Who was Dr. Atkins? And why was his research encrypted? Did it have anything to do with his dead daughter or the multiple variations of a virus that had already killed millions of innocent people? Could a cure be found before it was too late? Pandemic Dawn is the suspenseful journey of one man searching for his lost son and finding hope, while another who searches for a lost cure discovers his true identity.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Unlikely Hero Emerges..., March 28, 2010
This review is from: Pandemic Dawn : Book One (Paperback)
Pandemic Dawn offers a look into a future that has been devastated by a deadly man-made virus. Although all hope seems lost, a man named Karl "Lunk" Taylor emerges and tries to make sense of the newly destroyed society in which everyone now lives.

On a quest to find his son, Taylor encounters many people on his journey, some good, some bad. He has many tough decisions to make. Does he stop to help others in need or does he focus on his own problems that need solving. Taylor decides to help others. This decision is what makes "Pandemic Dawn" so interesting. It makes you think about what you would do if put in similar circumstances.

The highlight of the book is the characters. Author B. A. Shields takes time to introduce the side characters and bring them to life. The "bad guys" in the book are even shown as people who make bad decisions based on their own choice of self-fulfillment. One dimensional characters are not found in this book.

The story is never rushed, and everyone decisions in the book have consequences which affect the other characters in the story. Unlike other post-apocolyptic stories, this is one not based on a foundation of despair, but hope. Mankind can survive, but will it choose to?

I found this book very hard to put down, and cannot wait until Book II comes out.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am not a sci-fi fan...BUT I LOVED IT!, February 7, 2010
This review is from: Pandemic Dawn : Book One (Paperback)
I loved this book!

I am not a science fiction fan, but gave this book a try and loved it. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys adventures with a hero, and a touch of romance mixed with the fear of the unknown.

I'm giving it a 5 star because it really surprized me and made me want more!

I can't wait until the next novel in this series is available!
