poor remote; resets duration after powered off,
By sad dad (Portland, OR United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pandigital 10.4" WiFi/Bluetooth Compatible Digital Photo Frame with 1GB Internal Memory and Bonus Pre-Loaded Recipes (Electronics)
The screen is fair and of good size, but not particularly crisp, bright, or vibrant. The remote is very poor -- I could almost never get the screen to respond to the remote unless I aimed directly at the lower right corner of the screen and held the remote vertically (!?; see all the reviews at Costco website). This would not be a huge issue, except that you can not fully configure the viewer without the remote. Even after changing to fresh battery, had the same problem (returned it on this basis alone).
Worse, when the frame is turned off, it resets to the default slide duration -- which is 5 seconds. This is way too short for anyone using this as a digital picture frame by their desk because it's a constant distraction. Also, the (random) transitions are very "blocky" and not smooth; it bugged me so much that I went deep into the menus to change them all to "fade" but was no better. One slide "fades" into the next in what looks like 3 or 4 increments -- blink, blink, blink. It's not at all like what we've grown accustomed to on an iPhoto, iMovie, or even PowerPoint slide presentation. Yes, it's big and it's dirt cheap; we were looking for something a little better.

hate the remote!,

large good quality screen but unfortunately the remote is TERRIBLE and even worse you have to control everything on the screen with the remote if you don't have the touch version. I downloaded several hundred photos from my memory card and wanted to delete those I didn't want to display... I spent HOURS. You have to press the button on the remote many times to get a response 8 out of 10 times.
On another note it didn't download the photos from my camera in order so if you are looking to do a slide show where pics are displayed as they happened, it messes it all up. Again the size and picture quality were great, but it's so cumbersome to work with the photos due to lack of functionality and crappy remote quality... That unless you only have a few photo's to work with you will find it a lesson in frustration.

Disappointing,
This review is from: Pandigital 10.4" WiFi/Bluetooth Compatible Digital Photo Frame with 1GB Internal Memory and Bonus Pre-Loaded Recipes (Electronics)
My family had high hopes for this frame as a gift to tech shy Great Grandparents that live in another part of the country. The frame did not measure up. It was hard to set up, harder to change images. We were hoping to send photos over a photo sharing website but did not give it to them because we hit so many problems. We are looking for another product.

Just go read the FAQ on their website. It is a poor product and not easy to use. The wi-fi adapter is not included, barely works when purchased separately. Bluetooth is impossible despite the advertising. Also, memory cards can fall inside the device and then they are lost until you send the whole unit back to the service center. Guess who pays for this "service" :(

My major complaint is that the remote does not work. I have to press the button 15 or 20 times for it to register, and sometimes it doesn't matter how many times I press it- there is no response. This is a major problem because the remote does things that you can't do on the frame itself. So, the frame is pretty much worthless to me because I am unable to manage my photos. So disappointed. The picture quality is great, though. But that doesn't make up for the major issues.

I have this picture frame, and it would have been good if it weren't crippled by some tragic and very basic user interface problems. As an information technology professional, this frame makes me deeply ashamed that someone in my profession still ships products so poorly designed to interact with a consumer. It has buttons and a remote control. Half - but only half - of the functions can be done from the buttons; it's missing the critical "menu" button that many important the functions depend on. The remote control only works from 6" away - so what's the point? The remote control is small and completely losable. Pandigital provides a weak magnet to hold it to the back of the unit, rather than some low-tech but functional mechanism like velcro or a slot, so it continually falls off. When you can't find the remote control, simple tasks like deleting all the files are now impossible. The user interface is frustratingly slow. Basically, this product should not exist.

Picture quality good, Remote is poor; Photo Manage is poor.,

Size, display quality and price were very good ($99.99). Bought for my 88yr old mother. Unfortunately, as mentioned in other reviews, the remote is terrible with very poor response and is needed for almost every feature or selection. Very, very frustrating and so erratic. Never could determine if it was poor button contacts or transmission/reception of the remote single to the frame. Never did find a sweet spot for either the buttons or the line of sight to the frame. My mother will find it very difficult, if not impossible to use this remote.
Purchased a separate 16GB SDHC card to store 1000+ family photos and a few videos, but discovered that the photo "Manage" is very poor. If you used your computer to transfer and organise your photos in subfolders on the SD card, i.e. by year, the "Manage" will not display an list of subfolders to select your photos from. It will only display 9 thumbnails photos at a time, starting any photos in the main folder, if none, then the 1st alphabethical subfolder. Since no folder/subfolder names are displayed, you have no idea what subfolder you are in. I had 124 separate 9 photo thumbnail groups. To find a specific folder of photos, you must scroll through each group of 9 photos until you happen to recognise a photo from the subfolder you want. Of course my mother won't know this. Can you image the time it would take to reach the "right" folder in the 60th thumbnail group? Double it for the remote's poor response! This problem would be the same with photos stored on the internal memory and any flash drive attached. This may be a limitation of most, if not all digital frames. The lack of efficient photo "manage" dramatically reduces its versitility when using large memory cards or flashdrives. It is a great price, but it may not be suitable for my mother. I am disappointed that it only plays back AVI video files which take up huge amounts of memory. How many of us use AVI format for our family videos? Compressed MPEG, MWA or MOV video files would have been preferred options. I tried one of my AVI videos and got an "Incompatible format" error message. I will try another AVI file later. I am trying other digital frames for comparison.

Excellent Product!,

I ordered this diigital photo frame for Father's Day. My husband wanted one he could put on his desk at work. However, he claims the size is too big for an average size work space, and would be better suited to be used in the home instead. However,he does use it at work and he loves it! The quality of the photos is excellent! Of course, the better quality your photos are the better quality of showing them in the photo frame. Prior to purchasing this one I did my research and shopped around for the best price. Out of all the digitial photo frames this one offers the most bang for your buck! Totally recommend it!
