4.0 out of 5 stars Love it! So convenient and fast.
I just received this item today and just love it. It is lightning fast and absolutely tiny. It saves your pics immediately to a memory card or directly to your hard drive or digital photo frame (I have only tried the memory card method). I like that it works stand alone and you don't need hardward to use it, I couldn't find another photo scanner that worked this way...

When I saw this product it struck me as a wonderful item. I could rapidly scan all of my old photos and not take days doing it. I read reviews where people reported white lines appearing on the scanned photos. Well, mine did have them. There was no rhyme or reason to it either. I could scan a photo and not have any lines in it, then scan it again and have 1 line, 4 lines. I never knew what it was going to do. I did follow the instructions and calibrated the device, cleaned it, etc. The lines still showed up. Seeing it for myself I find the lines to be unacceptable. I wanted to digitize my old photos to keep them from wear and signs of age. Not scan them and have artifacts in the finished product that weren't there when I started. The time saved using this device compared to using a flatbed scanner for photos is not enough to overlook this fault.

2.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant idea, poor execution, March 3, 2009
This review is from: Pandigital PANSCN01 PhotoLink Mini Scanner (Black) (Electronics)
I took a gamble, after reading about the white lines in some of the other reviews, and purchased this scanner anyway. I was hoping that it was just a few defective units, and mine would not have that problem. Well, just like the others, my photos all scan in with fine white lines across them. I've tried cleaning and calibrating it multiple times, following the instructions and it hasn't helped.
To me, these lines are completely unacceptable. I'm going to try and return it to the manufacturer, hoping that they have come up with a fix for it since it was first produced. If they come through and get me a working unit, I will come back and write a new review. But for now, two stars is an extremely generous rating, based solely on how much I love the concept behind this product, as the final product you end up with is not good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Functions nice but Leaves Lines thru Pictures, January 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pandigital PANSCN01 PhotoLink Mini Scanner (Black) (Electronics)
I just opened this baby up and started scanning and love the way it functions. It scans fast and easy and seems to autocrop when necessary. The major downside is there are fine lines through almost half of my pictures I scanned. Some are noticiable and all seem to be in the same area. Tried rescanning those pics and it sometimes improves and goes from 2 lines to 1 but it's always there. I am calling MFG to see if there is a fix besides the recalibration.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it....yet., February 22, 2009
This review is from: Pandigital PANSCN01 PhotoLink Mini Scanner (Black) (Electronics)
I have had 4 of these units in my possession now, and none of them performed without lines through the images. It is a shame, because it is flawless in every other way. The concept is so solid that, if it performed well, there would be one in every household at the price they are offering it at. I would pay three times as much for it if it worked.

I would say I get maybe 25% good scanned images, the rest have lines through them. They show up at different spots on the same image, or sometimes not at all, so it doesn't seem to be related to the print.
[...]

It's such a great concept that I gave it two stars even though it doesn't seem to work. Such a shame, with a working product and a little bit of advertising they could sell millions of them.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY! Lines, lines, and more lines!!, February 17, 2009
This review is from: Pandigital PANSCN01 PhotoLink Mini Scanner (Black) (Electronics)
The product is easy to set up and use, but it definitely leaves lines through the pictures. I read the reviews on here before buying, and it seemed like only one reviewer had trouble with lines, so I thought I'd take my chance.

I even made sure to clean each photo beforehand, to remove any dust or other debris. My first two (2) pictures came out good, but ONLY my first two pictures. The rest had horrible white lines on them! And the amount and thickness of lines seemed to increase as I went on.

The manufacturer KNOWS this is a problem, and even addresses this issue in the user manual. I followed the recommended solution: cleaning and calibrating the machine, but that made no difference. There were still lines!

I am upset that I wasted so much time scanning photos (it is much quicker than using a flatbed scanner though). I would not recommend this product to anyone who is trying to digitize their precious photos. If you don't care about the quality, then go for it. Otherwise, this machine would only be useful for scanning business cards or receipts.

I will be returning this. Save yourself the trouble--don't buy!

I like that it works stand alone and you don't need hardward to use it, I couldn't find another photo scanner that worked this way.

The downsides: (1) It only scans up to 1800 X 1200 (300 dpi) so clarity is not necessarily the best. Depending on your needs, this could be a bigger deal for you than for me- I was just looking for something to digitize old photos with to put on the computer rather than print them out.
(2) It can't scan a picture bigger than 4 X 6, so giant photos would need another method.

For me, what it lacks in quality and features, it more than makes up for with convenience and portability. Great item!

2.0 out of 5 stars Lines through every picture, February 24, 2009
This review is from: Pandigital PANSCN01 PhotoLink Mini Scanner (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased even with the mixed reviews hoping it would work for me. I am trying to scan photos from the last 13yrs that are in photo albums. I scanned about 200 pictures and every one of them had a line or lines through them. I cleaned the machine and calibrated the machine per instructions and still had the same problem. Sent it back and going to keep researching machines.

2.0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk, January 17, 2010
This review is from: Pandigital PANSCN01 PhotoLink Mini Scanner (Black) (Electronics)
I loved this when I first got it. I love the speed. However, as other reviewers have stated there are frequent white lines. My biggest complaint is I used it heavily the first 2 weeks I got it. Then it sat for several months and when I went to use it it wouldn't even turn on. Since the warranty is only 90 days it's not covered by warranty. Regardless though, when I emailed the manufacture they couldn't even respond to my email. Poor product from a company with even poorer customer service. Save your money and don't buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy!!! Piece of junk!, December 25, 2009

This review is from: Pandigital PANSCN01 PhotoLink Mini Scanner (Black) (Electronics)
This thing is a complete ripoff! The scan quality is extremely poor (think mid-90s technology), even without the frequent white lines that appear on the images. Not only that, but they neglect to inform you that you need to put EVERY picture in a flimsy plastic shield for each scan in order to get "high quality" results - this negates much of the advertised ease of use and speed of being able to feed one picture in after the next. Not only that, you can't scan directly to the computer! You HAVE to use the memory card provided, which is TINY (556mb)! Should you want to scan more than a few pictures you would have to buy a much larger capacity memory card. What a rip off. Don't waste your money on this scam.

1.0 out of 5 stars Technology not ready yet, August 25, 2009
This review is from: Pandigital PANSCN01 PhotoLink Mini Scanner (Black) (Electronics)
I owned a flatbed scanner that had a photo feeder attachment and it did the same thing. When I talked to HP they sent me two whole new feeders over a 6 month period of time. They said that the problem was that ANY spec of dust that gets on the photo or in the feeder will leave a scratch mark all the way down the length of the photo. They did not have a fix for this. Since I don't work in a 100,000 clean room, this technology is not for me. I gave this one a shot and it did the exact same thing. I can't believe that they put a product like this on the market knowing all to well that it is a flawed bit of technology. It is criminal in my opinion.
