Book Description

May 1, 2003
This second edition of "Panic and Anxiety Disorder, 121 Tips, Real-life Advice, Resources & More" features 40 more pages than the original. Some of them offer author Linda Manassee Buell's personal journal entries, in which she reflects on her years of suffering, learning and joy in her battle with panic disorder and agoraphobia. As one reads these stories, it becomes clear how this book's remarkably realistic approach and very practical tips came to be.

Adding even more value are new chapter introductions that will help the reader use the tips more effectively, along with brief yet helpful insights from mental health professionals. The resource area has also been expanded considerably. Written from a panic sufferer's own special perspective, this unique book offers heartfelt support. It is a welcome addition to understanding and helping in the search for sensible approaches and realistic goals for people who suffer from panic and anxiety disorder as well as those who would like to better understand or help them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, basic stuff that works., May 23, 2001
By
Diane Duncan (Pioneer, CA United States) - See all my reviews
I'd heard about Linda's upcoming tips book on Panic and Anxiety Disorder, but wasn't really interested in reading it, mainly because it was a "tips" book; I've seen those booklets in the check-out line, and always considered them vague and rather gimmicky. So, when I first picked up "Panic and Anxiety Disorder, 121 Tips, Real-life Advice, Resources & More", not only was I surprised by its book-like appearance, I was also drawn to its calm, down-to-earth approach to self-help. Yes, there are numbered tips, but as I read, I realized this wasn't implicitly for someone coping with anxiety disorders; Linda has written to everybody. Her tips, while pinpointing individual aspects of anxiety, actually address the very simple, basic, moment-by-moment steps to follow in order to successfully survive just about any stressful inner conflict. From digging in the earth to truly relearning the art of breathing, Linda's guidance is straightforward and simultaneously profound. Not leaving any stone unturned, Linda has dedicated an entire chapter to folks who've found themselves in the challenging role of support, and included numerous sources of additional literature and information.

Linda Manassee Buell has written this book with the compassion and personal landscape of someone who's lived in the cave of fear, and who's triumphantly emerged into the sunshine.

5.0 out of 5 stars A way to support family and friends, February 15, 2002
By A Customer
Having a close family member recently diagnosed with Panic Anxiety Disorder, I found the book extremely useful in both understanding the illness and knowing how to support this person. The author provides easy-to-understand details about the illness and solid ways of supporting loved-ones. Now, I feel like I can talk to my family member and no longer have to side-step the discussion. A must-read for anyone who has loved ones with this condition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honestly, all you need to know by author who's been there, May 3, 2001
By A Customer
I've read other books, but finally got what I need from the format of 121 tips that really cover how to de-fuse my anxiety disorder. I feel less alone and embarrassed, and was surprised to read that stars like Kim Basinger & Naomi Judd, have suffered with panic "disorder." Linda Manassee Buell really wants to help--is angry at "how misunderstood this disorder has been by those of us with it, and certainly by those without." Linda's tips include ones I may read to my family & friends who have told me to "buck up." Also, I called one of the therapy places listed in the resource list and found that virtual reality therapy and inexpensive groups are right near me in San Diego! Linda reveals her heart in two short anecdotes about her healing and now helps others with her coaching.
