Book Description

August 23, 2004
There's nothing funny about panic attacks . . . or is there? As this problem reaches epidemic proportions in the U.S., two brave women journey to the front line in the battle against panic and return with stories of courage, anxiety, recovery, and just general craziness in a crazy world.

Journalists by trade, panic attack sufferers by habit, the authors understand that panic disorder is like a haunted house - the only way out is through it. So they wrote a book that makes those panic ghosts and goblins a little less scary.

Organized around first-person accounts, The Panic Diaries investigates what panic is, how people experience it, and how it's treated. The authors also interview some in-the-know people, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and natural health professionals, who offer treatments that are proven to help sufferers overcome their panic attacks.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Panic Diaries, September 19, 2004
This review is from: The Panic Diaries: The Frightful, Sometimes Hilarious Truth About Panic Attacks (Paperback)
It sounds so cliche, I know, but this book will make you laugh and cry at the same time. It is brilliantly hilarious and remarkably informative. You can actually laugh at life's catastrophes while learning how to deal with them. I found this book historical, hysterical, informative and very well structured and written. Even if you do not have panic attacks, read it! Or share it with someone who does or does not have panic attacks. It is a smooth read and incredibly entertaining. It is the best and funniest book I have read since THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. It is laugh out loud funny and I cannot recommend it enough.... I look forward to seeing the movie!!

A very disappointing book. I have read many books on anxiety and panic disorder over the years, and this is one of the most useless. Nothing new here. The personal stories sound phony and are not in the least bit inspiring. The tone is irritating, as though it were written for 13 year olds - lots of "Yikes!" and "Fun!" Misery does not love company in this case. If you want to spend your money on something worthwhile, try "Overcoming Anxiety for Dummies," or anything by Edmund Bourne. There are loads of good books out there on panic and anxiety - just not this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lilmac, January 7, 2005
This review is from: The Panic Diaries: The Frightful, Sometimes Hilarious Truth About Panic Attacks (Paperback)
As a sufferer of panic attacks, I found this book light hearted, funny and hopeful. The authors do not claim to be medical experts, only women who have experienced the same things many panic sufferers can relate to. Having done my share of research on panic attacks, I found this book compiled all the major information into one, easy to read resource. It made me laugh, but most of all, it made me feel normal. I would highly recommend this book as one of many resources to someone suffering from panic attacks.
