Cat loves it, but,
By

My cat thinks this is the best toy he's ever seen. However, apart from the problem with the cat easily knocking it over, the toy began to develop problems within the first month.
First the motor began to act strange, and wouldn't fully twirl around, getting stuck at points (different batteries didn't fix it). Also, our cat has learned how to break the string, requiring a never ending supply of new strings. Without these problems this would be a great toy. With them, I'd be reluctant to recommend it to anyone one. Broken strings are common with cat toys, but the problem with the motor has made it unusable. I may have just been unlucky, but this was my experience with it, and I'm not willing to spend more to find out.

Great Toy Shotty Craftsmanship,
My cat received this toy as a gift from his grandmother last christmas! It was his favorite toy! Toy ran very well for the first two months and then the motor started going. Replacement of batteries didn't work. Finally because he would always sit by the toy wanting to play - I decided to take it apart and see what the problem was. The electrical wires came apart. I fixed it and he resumed play. This was good for about a week before it broke again. I have thus repaired it 5 times but now it is finally irrepairable. The company won't take it back, fix it or exchange it as it only had a 30 day warranty. He really loves this toy and even though it is broken continues to sit near it and try to play with it. Becuase he loves it so much I was considering buying him a new one. But sad to say the toy doesn't seem to be made well and it isn't exactly cheap by way of cat toys. So I am reluctant. But like I said before it was his favorite and entertained him for long periods of time. Too bad it isn't made well. Hope this helps.

This Thing Is Great,
This review is from: Panic Mouse Original (Misc.)
Ok..we bought a "Panic Mouse" for our cats/kittens. While the older cats walked by it with expressions of indifference. The kittens have a blast with it!
It moves and turns randomly so they never know which way it will go..ok..I admit..once in awhile one gets knocked in the head by it...but it's still funny! You can adjust the speed so it goes slower, which we did until they got the hang of it then it was FULL power. It even keeps the kids entertained! Just remember to shut if off or you will be buying batteries left and right. If you buy one buy the extra wand and 3 mice, as the strings are pretty flimsy and break easy. Or go buy some string and a few pom poms and make them yourself.

Great toy!,
My cats absolutely LOVE this toy! They even play with it when it isn't turned on. Well worth the money. I do suggest if your cats are hard on toys to get a few of the replacment wands to go with it.

Cats overpower Panic Mouse,

Even with the stablizing bar in place my Siamese overpowered the Panic Mouse within 10 minutes and sent it tumbling down a flight of stairs, bending the arm, impacting it's functionality (now limited). The thing sucks batteries four times as fast as the last moving toy I purchased. Medioce at best; poor if you have an "assertive" feline when it comes to hunting.

Better model than 360,

It is a great toy and my cats greatly enjoyed it. After they got tired to play with it they used it as an automatic petting machine :) Check out a video I took: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdbOQbLye6c
Unfortunately, the toy broke rather quickly. I took it apart and the mechanism had quite flimsy and weak gear wheels made of very soft plastic... I wish they made the thing more reliable but other than that is it a fun toy for cats.

Cats play for hours,
By When I bought this toy I was sceptical about whether my cats would play with it. (They often play with a new toy for maybe 15 minutes a few times and then they're bored with the toy for at least several months.) And Panic Mouse was fairly expensive so I hated to spend that much money on a toy that wouldn't get much use. But since I rescue and foster cats, I thought some might like it and hoped it would be worthwhile overall. When I got it home, three of my cats immediately began watching it. Soon they were sitting in a circle around it playing. Later, when I made it slower, the cats who play less often (who had been watching it without playing) began playing too. I turn it off when the cats leave the area but they come back every half hour or so to play again. I originally had it in my living room. After my cats left the area, I moved it to my bedroom so a different group of cats could try it. But when the "living room cats" came back, they were upset that the toy wasn't there anymore so I had to move it back to the living room. I like how you can adjust the speed and angle of the toy. Some of my cats like it slow, others medium or fast. Some of my cats like the toy to be dragged along the ground, others like it in the air. This toy allows you to give your cat what it wants in terms of slow/fast or air/ground play. And unlike humans, it can and will play for hours at a time. All my cats love this toy. It's the first cat toy that all my cats have enjoyed. I don't know how long it will last but if it lasts a whole month, it will have been well worth the price because I've had it two days and it has already entertained my cats for about 30 hours. They've played more hours with Panic Mouse in two days than they have with most of their toys, even the toys we've had for over a year.

Fragile,

Although the toy is great and our cat likes it very much, it's extremely fragile. After a few times the "motor" is not running properly any more. I've ordered a second one since I thought the problem was caused by coincidence, but the second one gave the same problems after 3 times use. All in all too expensive for the quality offered !

Greatest Cat Toy Ever!,
I have 5 cats, Sandy (16-17), Stinkey (11), Tiger (2), Panda and Mylo (8 months). We origionally bought the Panic mouse for Tiger when we went to get pictures with santa for the humane society. My mom was reluctant at first (she didn't want to spend $30 on it) But it was the best investment ever! Tiger loved it!
Sandy isn't into the fast movement (she falls over) but she sits and watches. Stinkey is the queen, so when she's playing the kittens all stay back! haha it's an amazing toy! In September Panda and Mylo were dumped in a ditch, so we took them in and it's their favorite toy! I added a bell to the wand and it made it even more popular! As soon as they hear the bell, the kittens come running! We've had the panic mouse for a year and 4 months. The origional wand finally broke this morning! (Mylo likes to chew strings) I would recommend this toy to anyone who has or is thinking about getting kitties!

Great! For the first 15 minutes,
This review is from: Panic Mouse Original (Misc.)
My cats went bonkers over the Panic Mouse when I first turned it on, but they quickly developed a tolerance to it. One cat now lies on the floor in front of it and passively whaps it when the mouse wand moves past him. Another cat sits still and allows the wand to "pet" him. A couple other cats quiver in the background and watch the wand spin around with eyes like pinwheels, but they do not interact with it, no matter how fast or slow I set the toy. Perhaps it is the loud whirring noise that puts them off.
The Panic Mouse seems sturdy and relatively well made, so I don't plan to write it off just yet. I think younger or more active cats would enjoy this cat toy more than older, lazy cats who just want to be adored. From a safe distance! To date, the best cat toy that gets regular use (and maintains interest) is Da Bird Interactive Feather Cat Toy. That and crumpled up balls of aluminum foil and the string that was once attached to my kitchen timer. |
