5.0 out of 5 stars Still love it.
I bought this book over ten years ago, after I saw the chocolate sandwich on the cover. Tried it and LOVED it, as did my son. From there I just worked my way through the book and I can't remember being unhappy with anything I made from it. Surprised by the negative reviews posted just under mine but I guess if its not what you're expecting, then you're going to be...

3.0 out of 5 stars not quite what I expected.....
Although the book has a great many recipes, what I was mostly looking for were recipes for grilled panini. Given the title, I was hopefull. There were precious few of those in the book, maybe 3?, so I was disappointed. Also, an earlier review mentioned the repetition of recipes in the book, and I'd have to agree. I would have liked more variety. However, the book...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for Sandwhiches, Not for Panini Presses, November 29, 2005
By
This review is from: Panini, Bruschetta, Crostini: Sandwiches, Italian Style (Paperback)
I purchased this book when I got my Cuisinart Griddler. This book has great ideas for sandwiches, bruschetta and crostini, but as a previous reviewer noted, not many of the sandwhich recipes are for a panini press. Now you can certainly press each of the recipes if you want, but clearly that is not what the author intended.

If you are lookging for a panini press book, this book could be a starting point, just change some of the breads and press away. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who is looking for a true panini press cookbook.

1.0 out of 5 stars VERY DISAPPOINTED!, October 15, 2005

This review is from: Panini, Bruschetta, Crostini: Sandwiches, Italian Style (Paperback)
I purchased this book as I was also purchasing a panini maker/grill at the same time. If you are looking for sandwich recipes with substance -- THIS IS NOT THE BOOK!! Most of the recipes are meatless and aren't even grilled/heated! I am actually considering returning the book even though the shipping costs will be almost as much as the item itself --- that's how disappointing this book is! ie: "1 egg, preferably from cage-free", "lemon zest, preferably from organic lemon", "ricotta, preferably made by a small, artisan-style Italian cheese company." Give me a break!!!!!!!!!!!!

That said, it's a fabulous sandwich book.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd like to counteract the unfair criteria of some of the other reviews., May 31, 2008

Many reviews of this book complain that it was recommended as a companion to a purchases of a panini press or sandwich maker, and I can see why they are disappointed. Amazon has many strengths, but the quality of its recommendations is not one of them. These reviews are helpful in letting purchasers of sandwich makers know that this book doesn't have many of the grilled meat and cheese sandwich recipes that many people are looking for.

I wish, however, that so many of these reviews didn't give the book one star and lower its rating, because it's a lovely book with ideas for simple, delicious toppings and fillings for grilled bread. These are recipes that would be appropriate for a light lunch or supper, for appetizers, or for cocktail parties. Many of the recipes feature lemon, capers, olives, oregano, hot pepper flakes, and garlic, adding flavor to vegetable fillings or small amounts of fish, chicken, or cheese. The recommendations that ingredients be organic, cage-free, etc., are not nearly as frequent as some disgruntled reviewers would have you believe, and of course you are always free to use ordinary grocery store fruit, vegetables and eggs.

There are also some sweet recipes. I love the recipe for Baked Fresh Fruit Bruschetta: sliced nectarines baked on bread with a little butter and sugar, served for breakfast with caffe latte.

Somewhat of a disappointment. I expected more variety of panini sandwiches. This is really a basic book that is average. If you wish to get more flavorful and/or complex panini's look elsewhere. Too much space is dedicated to bread and the recipes are lacking. Pictures are great!

This recipe book was recommended with the panini grill - but it has very few grilled recipes. Not what I expected at all.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disliked it so much, I returned it, September 13, 2004

This review is from: Panini, Bruschetta, Crostini: Sandwiches, Italian Style (Paperback)
Unlike the above reviews, I didn't like this book. I am from the NYM area and love panini sandwiches, but this book's recipes bordered on the ridiculus with a tremendous repeat of ingredients, used over and over again. The recipes seemed hardly original to me. My local delis have a much more interesting assortment of ingredients than any recipe in this book. A let down, as I was really looking forward to this book.

Fresh bread, cheese, veggies, meat, seafood --- all combined into delightful fares, such as sandwiches, snacks, etc.

Fond of Goat Cheese and Roasted Pepper Panini; Swordfish and Arugula Panini;Insulata Russa and Shrimp Tramezzini; Polenta Triangles with Peppers and Gorgonzola;Toasted Bittersweet Chocolate Panino;Ice Cream Sandwich, Italian Style.

Well done with photos, instructions and pointers.

Refreshing, great additions to a menu or as a stand-alone snack or dinner.

This book is not quite what I thought it was going to be. If you are interested in more dinner/lunch panini (italian) sandwich type cookbooks look elsewhere.
