5.0 out of 5 stars Panther's in depth, July 16, 2001
This review is from: Panther in action - Armor No. 11 (Paperback)
This small document gives a brief, yet complete description on the Panther . The photo's are all real. And are very intersting. The book even goes over the change in all design and equipment through the years. I was able to read this from cover to cover in a matter of an hour. Great fun. This is book 11 in a series of books from squadron. I want them all!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book on a tank whose very name has become legend., March 27, 2010

This review is from: Panther in action - Armor No. 11 (Paperback)
If you are interested in extensively researching armored warfare, there are two series of books you simply cannot do without- the books by Osprey Publishing on tanks, and the armored series of books by Squadron/Signal Publishing. "Panther in Action" is 50 pages long, published in 1975. It tells an extensive visual and written history of one of the most feared tanks of all time, covering the beginning of the Panther's history to its end, including a number of variants that are famous in their own right- the Bergepanther and Jagdpanther are among the most extensively converted of those variants. The last page of the book features an image of a charred, burning Panther sitting on its collapsed suspension in front of a Cologne cathedral. Once powerful, once feared, but now reduced to complete and utter ruin, this destroyed Panther represents not only the end of the Panther's career, but the end of Nazi Germany.
German tankers, much like tankers of the IDF in a way, were brave, skilled men with superbly built but badly outnumbered machines, forever seeking to and often succeeding in doing the impossible. Their bravery and skill under fire pressed the Allies to the very limit and beyond. And much like the Tiger, by the time anything appeared in Europe that could take on a Panther and win easily, it was already gone from the battlefields in Europe, superior and feared until the end. Anyone interested in researching the history of armored warfare, specifically that of Germany and its many famous tanks, should definitely obtain a copy of this book. The entire Squadron/Signal Publishing line of books is just as well-written as "Panther in Action" by Bruce Culver is.

A note- I did not buy this book in any capacity. It was a gift from a family friend, just handed to me one day because the man knew it was something I'd be interested in. And he was right.
