About the Author

Pantone Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of X-Rite, Inc.) is the world-renowned authority on colour. For more than 45 years Pantone has been inspiring design professionals with products, services, and technology for the colourful exploration and expression of creativity. In 1963, Lawrence Herbert, Pantone's founder, created the Pantone Matching System, a book of standardized colour in fan format-an innovative system for identifying, matching and communicating colours to solve the problems associated with producing accurate colour matches in the graphic arts community. Pantone has since expanded its colour matching systems to include other colour-critical industries including digital, fashion, home, plastics, architecture, interiors, and paint. Today, the Pantone name is known worldwide as the standard language for accurate colour communication.

I was a little disappointed with the finish on these - the colors don't come off very vibrant. But you do get 100 postcards in 100 colors.

I purchased this set at a local bookstore, but wish I'd done it here--better price! Back in the mists of time, getting my teaching degree in the late 1980s, I remember running across some gorgeous Montessori teaching materials. One item in particular stuck in my memory--a set of plastic chips that ranged from light pink to deep red, and all gradations in between. The idea was to train a child's eye to distinguish between subtle gradations by having them put them in order, at the time in their lives where they memorized pictures easily. [Remember those picture books you read as a kid, where you knew every single line of every illustration? There may be a window for natural visual memorization...maybe?] In an attempt to create cool homeschool materials I did some work with paint chips for my daughter, having her match different colors that I'd cut in half. This set of Pantone postcards has enough colors on harder card stock to make the handling of them a pleasure, and they are just as fun, both to see gradations of color, and to compare contrasting colors. A great homeschooling tool!

I ordered this collection of 100 postcards to communicate with friends and family during my year of grad school. I wanted to give some to everyone- along with stamps- and tell them to write me. I'm hoping to get all the cards back and keep them in the colorful box for my own personal enjoyment.

The colors are printed on matte cardboard, so they're not glossy or shiny. There isn't much room to write a message, but each postcard does come with addressee lines and a "place stamp here" box. They're almost too pretty to actually use. If I could come up with a collage idea, I would save them to decorate instead.

I ordered the Pantone postcards to use to decorate my studio. As a graphic designer I have to say I love them! Years of working in print design some of the Pantone swatches have quite a bit of meaning to them. I came back to buy more for gifts for my design friends.

I got these as a gift from my husband "just because." When I first took off the wrapping paper, I was a little bit unsure why I'd want a box of 100 postcards, but then when I opened the box and realized that I could use these postcards to experiment with color schemes, make collages, etc, I was super excited! I have to say this is a great gift for designers of any kind and people who love colors.

Got these for my wife (who is a designer) as a 'just cuz' present and she loves them. You could even make a nice collage out of them if you're into that kind of thing...
