From Library Journal
A well-stocked pantry makes any cook's life easier, but Spieler's book shows how the pantry can also be the source of imaginative, unusual, but simple dishes. She first lists the items, from the essential to the exotic, to stock in a basic, intermediate, and advanced pantry; she then in successive chapters describes these ingredients and provides 200 recipes featuring them. Olives inspire Zinfandel-Braised Shortribs with Olives and Chive-Omelet Canapes, Peanut Butter is the base for a spicy Asian dip and a Chinese peanut sauce. Unusual and timely, this should be popular.
