PantyChrist is a 1999 CD of Bob Ostertag, an electronic musician, adventurous composer, a pioneer and a sampling legend from San Francisco. His trio, consisting of a Tokyo master noise DJ Otomo Yoskikide and a singer, New York drag queen and "neo-punk goddess" Justin Bond, produced a wild and pumping mixture of samples, noise and rhythms. Let's leave Marilyn Manson for teenage kids, this stuff is really perversely amusing with a number of tame childhood tunes and melodies desecrated with gusto. I bought the CD yesterday in a mystic environment of a church in Amsterdam, where Bob Ostertag was performing one of his instrumental compositions. I'm quite confident the church would not extend the same hospitality to this trio playing the music from PantyChrist.Hey, do you remember when Kinky Friedman's Village Irregulars (in "Elvis, Jesus and Coca-Cola") go to Fort Dicks, this seedy porn-movie theater, to screen the just-recovered reel of their missing friend's documentary on Elvis impersonators? ("The Village Irregulars trooped up to Fort Dicks like parochial children on a field trip to the other side of a dream.") Well, if they'd arrived a bit later in the evening, PantyChrist would have been a perfect sound for the occasion. 50 minutes of music, featuring also Richard Rogers (keyboards), John Rose (additional voice and vocals), Trevor Dunn (bass), Uchihashi Kazuhisa (guitar) and "Animo computer (mizuhiro): synthesizer".

This CD is for those who enjoy Crass and other so-called "noise rock" Many will not understand it, but those who do will enjoy.
