I got this game as a Christmas gift in 1998 and spent my entire vacation playing it. At the time, it was amazing. Graphics were great, game play was revolutionary, the only drawback was the subtitles and the Saturn system overheating, meaning I probably should have taken a break. This game is by far the greats and most compelling i have yet to play and opened the door for Final Fantasy lovers as well. There is a huge online following of people waiting for Sega to develop a sequel or remake for PS3. If you are looking for that one timeless game, you found it. Worth every cent. To this day I cannot get it out of my head.

I'm at a loss for words. It's worth every penny. One of the best games I've ever played. Easily the best game to be released here in the states. The story and atmosphere will entrance and lock you in a hypnotic grip before you even realize you lost your job, your girlfriend and even your World of Warcraft account. Again, I wish I could say more and I don't know how to properly convey the wonder and joy that this game is. There isn't a single game like it, and there never will be again. I'd say this is one of maybe, MAYBE five games that transcends the limitation of its status of belonging to the video game field and becomes purely a work of art. And I don't say that lightly.

An OPUS!, June 22, 2010

I agree with the first two reviewers. This game is a magnificent opus. If you played the first two installments, try to forget that experience and approach this one with an open mind because this is undoubtedly an RPG. Where it shines is its fusion of 3D shooter with exploration and experience building: watching your dragon morph into a more powerful juggernaut is pure delight! Speaking of dragons, you have 3 different types: an attack-enhanced dragon, a defense-enhanced dragon, and a speed-enhanced dragon. Finding the right fit for you is pure enjoyment in itself. Watching Edge bond with his dragon is also kind of touching.
The game features some nice little puzzles, such as answering a series of questions to a certain former hunter. If you answer all of his questions correctly (HINT: you had to have been paying attention to the enemies you encounter along the way), he will give you a special gun. Yes, you get a gun and your dragon also shoots lasers. The story also keeps you engrossed and locked to the screen. The surreal and bizarre artwork adds wonderfully to the aesthetics of the game and the game moves at a fairly quick pace...except when you're on foot. But that's okay because you'll probably want to soak in your environment, which if you allow your mind to travel back to '98, you will be blown away. The challenge is moderate to easy, if only because the game keeps you so enthralled in it that you don't notice the difficulty.
There aren't enough words for me to describe the experience. This game is just awesome. I still own it, considering myself one of the lucky 10K+ owners here stateside with an original copy. I KNEW what I had back then. I would say, yes, go ahead and drop the 200+ bones to get yourself a copy if you are a true gamer or an enthusiast.
