4.0 out of 5 stars If you liked the anime, you'll like this April 22, 2013

I ordered this because I thought the Girls und Panzer anime was the best anime of 2012, and because the music was a major contributor to that success. That said, the context is what makes the music. The main theme is re-used throughout, with variations and in different arrangements. This works well in the anime, but it gives the soundtrack album a certain lack of variety, and it's why I didn't give it a five star rating. It's a two disk set. The first disk starts with a three-minute military band version of the main theme, and ends an hour later with a four-minute orchestral arrangement. In between, there must be four more arrangements of the same theme, running about a minute to a minute and a half each. The best parts are the military brass bands, as you might expect. The rest of the music on the disk is incidental music, some of which is quite nice, and some of which is really distinctive music I don’t remember hearing at all in the anime. Themes that get only a few seconds in the anime are fleshed out here. The second disk is only about half an hour long, but it includes some surprises. The second track march of Disk 1 is repeated, but this time in what I can only describe as a polka arrangement. There’s both the OP and ED songs, which are usually left off of anime soundtracks due to copyright issues — they are very often made-for-anime versions of J-pop songs. There’s also two versions of Katyusha (which was left out of the US broadcast of the anime, again, because of copyright issues). One is the straight orchestral arrangement. The other is the Kachūsha version, sung by her Russian-speaking seiyu, Hisako Kanemoto. Finally, oh joy, is a full rendering of the Ankou Dance, by Sayaka Sasaki.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good BGM April 25, 2014

Not much more you can say about the album; most of the first disc is good BGM, and the second disc are the "anthems" for the show's main entities - the different school-ships, the sport as a whole, and the "TV Size" OP/ED themes.

As an aside, I received a Japanese-import CD album bought from Amazon itself, not a rip-off pirated copy from some random third-party. It's priced accordingly, but if you're concerned about anime-OST piracy (and the correct people getting paid), then rest assured that Amazon's in the clear.

4.0 out of 5 stars Case cracked but extra touches made this worth it. February 16, 2014

Always liked the music from the series and the cd's worked well. Cass had a crack in it, but it did come from all the way from Japan. Nothing major. The extra note and origami made a nice touch with the purchase.
