Papa Charlie Jackson,

This review is from: Complete Recorded Works Vol. 2: 1926-1928 (Audio CD)
You need to own both volume 1 and 2 from Papa Charlie. These are the earliest known blues songs put down on acetate. The reproduction is surprisingly good for recordings from the 1920's. Buy them you'll live this very early down home Mississippi blues. Papa Charlie is said to have taught Son House who in turn taught
Robert Johnson.

This review is from: Papa Charlie Jackson Vol. 3 (1928 - 1934) (MP3 Download)
This is a fantastic album. I wasn't so sure at first, but there's quite a bit of difference from the beginning disc in the mid-20s compared to what he was doing later. The chord progressions are probably some of the best red light district ragtime licks I've heard. Papa Charlie recorded a lot, he's got a smooth sophisticated style. He obviously played a lot of his best material in the initial sessions. But this group has loan me your heart, take me back baby and red hot papa. This is the real deal, chicago, 1920s Maxwell Street.
